Chapter 195: Chapter 186: Attack
Bena’s recruitment drive in Heishui Town had been quite successful. In addition to Carlos, they had found three other promising young people.
Though their current abilities were still limited, Bena believed that with proper training, they would quickly become valuable assets to the shelter.
Bena was very pleased with the results. His only regret was that the person he’d noticed at the very beginning never showed up. Clearly, they still had reservations about joining the shelter. What those reservations were, Bena had no way of knowing.
With the five-day deadline approaching, Bena had everyone pack their things and prepare to leave.
After all, they still needed to travel back to the teleportation point near October Town to rendezvous with Zhou Mei’s group.
However, just as Bena’s group was about to leave Heishui Town, something suddenly went wrong.
Several sharp alarms blared from the watchtowers outside the town, followed by a sudden commotion at the town’s edge.
Bena’s expression changed. He didn’t know much about Heishui Town, but the piercing wail of the alarm told him this was almost certainly bad news.
He immediately ordered Carlos and the other team members to prepare for battle.
However, just as Bena’s group was preparing to leave Heishui Town, something suddenly went wrong.
Sharp alarms blared from the watchtowers outside town, followed immediately by a commotion at the town’s edge.
Bena’s expression changed, and he immediately ordered Carlos and the other team members to prepare for battle.
"Neil, Mashu, you two go scout out the situation."
"Carlos, lead the others and get ready for a fight. Protect the new recruits."
"Yes, Sir Bena."
Neil acknowledged the order and sped toward the edge of town to investigate.
Carlos directed the other team members to prepare for battle and shield the new recruits.
After giving the orders, Bena immediately contacted Lin Hao, who was waiting outside Heishui Town, via his communicator.
To ensure this recruitment mission went off without a hitch, Lin Hao had over thirty small and four large mutated creatures under his control.
Upon receiving Bena’s call, Lin Hao immediately directed his mutated creatures toward the edge of town to provide support.
Bena himself, along with Carlos and two other team members, hurried to the town’s watchtower to find out what was going on.
When they arrived at the watchtower, they saw the guard on the tower staring into the distance with a terrified expression, muttering to himself.
"What... What are those things?!"
Bena followed the guard’s gaze and drew a sharp breath.
If the enemy had been a band of marauders or a large swarm of mutated creatures, he wouldn’t have had such a strong reaction; after all, he had dealt with such enemies before.
However, what appeared in the military binoculars was neither of those, but a group of humanoid creatures, blood-red from head to toe.
Just as he was wondering what those blood-red humanoid things could be, another person who had climbed the watchtower cried out in shock.
"Holy shit, Corpse Ghosts? That many of them? What the hell!"
After saying this, the person climbed down the watchtower even faster than he had climbed up and rushed into the distance without looking back.
Bena’s heart clenched at the words "Corpse Ghost." He’d never actually encountered them before, but he’d heard the terrifying stories.
Corpse Ghosts were an extremely dangerous creature. Their bodies resembled humans, but their skin was blood-red, their movements were stiff, and they possessed incredible strength. Most terrifying of all, they were highly infectious.
It was said that anyone bitten or scratched by a Corpse Ghost would quickly transform into one themselves.
Bena’s expression was grim. He never expected to encounter so many Corpse Ghosts in Heishui Town.
He immediately reported the situation to the Administrator.

Back in the shelter, Ye Yun’s expression darkened as he read Bena’s report.
’I can’t believe we ran into this kind of mess just by going out to recruit new members,’ he thought. But he knew that in the wastelands, danger was always more common than opportunity.
’Since we’ve run into it, we’ll just have to chalk it up to bad luck.’ He immediately keyed a command into his wristband, and the evaluation system appeared before him.
[Cooperate with Heishui Town to eliminate the Corpse Ghosts]
[Evaluation Type: Combat Mission]
[Assessing operational risk...]
[Assessment: White Item Drop Rate 14%, Green Item Drop Rate 33.5%, Blue Item Drop Rate 21.495%, Purple Item Drop Rate 31.005%, Risk Factor: 15.24%]
Seeing the risk level, Ye Yun’s brow immediately furrowed.
’A risk factor as high as 15%?’
To be honest, when he saw the probability of obtaining a purple item was as high as 31%, Ye Yun was a little tempted.
However, the risk factor was simply too high.
With such a high risk factor, it was highly probable that there would be casualties.
’If these Corpse Ghosts were coming for our shelter, then I’d have to face them, even with a 15% risk factor. But these damn things are most likely headed for that so-called Black Water Array. I’m not about to foolishly risk my people’s lives for someone else.’
Without hesitation, he immediately deleted the previous command and entered a new one.
[Evacuate Heishui Town immediately]
[Evaluation Type: Escape Mission]
[Assessing operational risk...]
[Assessment: White Item Drop Rate 0%, Green Item Drop Rate 0%, Blue Item Drop Rate 0%, Purple Item Drop Rate 0%, Risk Factor: 1.624%]
