Chapter 213 - 195: Access Control

Chapter 213: Chapter 195: Access Control

They were all experienced Warriors and knew how to handle situations like this.

The team pressed on, weaving through collapsed buildings and mountains of rubble.

As they ventured deeper into the ruins, the sunlight from above grew scarcer, and the light within the wreckage dimmed.

Everyone switched on their flashlights, illuminating the path ahead.

However, when they reached the central area of the ruins, the sight before them made them stop in their tracks.

Before them was a vast plaza paved with massive, neatly arranged stone slabs.

The plaza was encircled by collapsed buildings, their crumbling walls a testament to a bygone glory.

The most eye-catching feature, however, was a colossal metal structure in the center of the plaza.

The metal building stood over ten meters tall. Though its surface was covered in a thick layer of dust and vines, its imposing aura was impossible to hide.

In the center of the plaza, at the base of the metal building, was a large, sealed door. It had no handles or keyholes and looked exceptionally sturdy.

Bena and Zhou Mei exchanged a look, each seeing the surprise in the other’s eyes.

They hadn’t expected to find such a massive metal structure in the heart of the ruins.

Bena stepped forward to inspect the metal door closely and discovered strange lines etched into it, which appeared to be some kind of special symbols or patterns.

Zhou Mei also approached, her eyes filled with contemplation as she studied the markings.

"These markings look like some kind of code or lock mechanism," Zhou Mei said in a low voice.

Just then, Lin Hao, who was standing nearby, suddenly spoke up.

"That’s not a code. It’s writing—writing from before the Great Cataclysm."

Bena’s eyes lit up when he heard Lin Hao’s words.

Although Lin Hao wasn’t from the academy, his passion for studying mutated creatures had led him to pore over countless old documents and ancient texts. It was clear from his words that he could recognize this script from before the Great Cataclysm.

Bena turned to Lin Hao, a hint of anticipation in his eyes. "Can you read it?"

Lin Hao nodded. He walked to the metal door and carefully examined the markings.

"It’s an ancient script from before the Great Cataclysm. I’ve seen it in some old books, but I only recognize the common characters. I can’t read the specialized terms."

Even if he couldn’t decipher everything, Bena was thrilled. It was far better than being completely in the dark.

He quickly urged Lin Hao, "Tell us what this pre-Cataclysm writing says."

Lin Hao immediately took out a small notebook and began translating, character by character.

A full seven or eight minutes passed before Lin Hao stopped his work.

Lin Hao said gravely, "The larger text up here is the name of the building: Monsanto Biotechnology Research Institute - Branch 213. The other text describes its function and purpose... things like ’genetic recombination... destruction... construction...’ There are some other words I don’t understand; they’re probably technical terms, but that’s the gist of it."

Pointing at some of the characters on the door, Lin Hao explained, "From what I can tell, this was a place where a faction called Monsanto specialized in genetic engineering and biological modification."

Hearing this, Bena and Zhou Mei looked at each other, both seeing the delight in the other’s eyes.

This was the exact goal of their mission—to explore a shelter-ruin related to genetic engineering.

They hadn’t thought they would find their objective so quickly.

"Excellent, Lin Hao," Bena ordered. "Keep translating. See if you can find a way to get in."

Lin Hao nodded and continued to scrutinize the text on the door, trying to find a method of entry.

However, aside from the text, there were no other obvious mechanisms or locks on the door. Bena frowned and turned to the others. "Everyone, spread out and look for other entrances or mechanisms. If you see any similar writing, report back immediately."

The team fanned out and began searching the area around the plaza for possible entrances or triggers.

Bena, meanwhile, continued to observe the metal building, trying to find any clues.

He noticed that among the crumbling remnants of the collapsed buildings surrounding the plaza, some passages or entrances might be hidden.

"Zhou Mei," Bena ordered, "take a few people and check those collapsed buildings. See if there are any other entrances."

Zhou Mei nodded and led a few team members toward the collapsed structures.

Bena remained in the plaza, continuing his search for clues.

Just then, one of the team members suddenly shouted, "Captain, I found something!"

Bena immediately spun around and strode over to him. "What did you find?"

The team member pointed to a pillar next to the metal gate.

"Uh, Captain, look. There are more of those strange markings over here."

Bena quickly called Lin Hao over.

Lin Hao came forward and examined the inconspicuous text, a thoughtful expression on his face.

After a moment, Lin Hao said in a low voice,

"I recognize some of these characters, but again, there are technical terms I’m not familiar with."

"But the gist of it is that you need a specific ’key’ to get inside."

"The door won’t open without it."

As he spoke, he carefully brushed the dust from the pillar, revealing it completely.
