“So, was it an interesting experience?”
The young girl sat on the hospital bed, flipping through the Nameless Painting Book.
“…How long was I out?”
Lin Ye had spent many days over there. He didn’t know how much time it would consume to go to other Time Nodes.
Theoretically, he hadn’t spent any time here.
“A few minutes, within the margin of error.”
The young girl calmly continued flipping through the painting book, reading it very seriously.
“You knew I would go to other Time Nodes? Is this really okay?”
Even though he had to complete a simulation task every single day, Lin Ye still didn’t have much understanding of the concept of time. Could he really change things in the past? Or were past events already destined, and he was just a part of the past?
The young girl thought for a moment before explaining it in words Lin Ye could understand.
“…Couldn’t you have told me before I left? What’s the deal over there? Can I change the past?”
Lin Ye didn’t really want to understand the issue of time, but he couldn’t avoid it anymore. As his strength increased, he would inevitably come into contact with more and more dangerous things.
“The past cannot be changed. We can only change the future.”
The young girl looked at Lin Ye and answered very seriously.
“So, you’re saying that even if I did nothing, past events wouldn’t change?”
Lin Ye couldn’t accept that explanation. In the events he had just experienced, if he had done nothing, there was almost no chance Eura would have survived.
He believed he had changed the past.
“Student Lin Ye, it seems you didn’t pay attention to the second half of that sentence.”
The young girl put on a pair of black-rimmed glasses.
“…We can only change the future?”
Lin Ye felt like he had grasped something.
“If I encounter a problem that absolutely cannot be solved at this moment, what should I do?”
Even with the glasses on, the young girl still didn’t look like a teacher.
“…Change the future.”
Lin Ye had roughly guessed the method for changing the past.
“That’s right. I can find someone from a future Time Node who can solve the problem and bring them here. Since that person is still in the future, before that Time Node arrives, the current unsolvable problem will exist in an unknown state. It’s only when that future Time Node comes that the past Time Node will stabilize.
We didn’t change the past. We only changed the future.”
The young girl placed the peeled fruit in front of Lin Ye.
It was a thin, frail dinosaur body.
“…You can do something like that?”
Lin Ye understood what the young girl meant, but he couldn’t comprehend how this could even be possible. He had always believed that fate was uncertain, but if someone really could find a person from the future to solve a present problem…
“The future is not fixed, and even the person who solves the problem is not fixed. This is not something you need to think about right now.”
The young girl saw through Lin Ye’s thoughts.
“…I have one more question. In this incident, who used the power of crossing time? And for what purpose?”
Every faction in that world wanted Eura dead. No one would have used such a time-crossing power for her. It couldn’t have been that king, could it?
“Such a simple question, and you still need to ask me?”
The young girl gestured for Lin Ye to think a little.
“…The God of Science and Truth? Didn’t He go missing millions of years ago? If He hadn’t gone missing, there wouldn’t have been any need for me to do this, right?”
Lin Ye hadn’t even considered that deity with such a long name.
“He really did go missing, but He could have taken care of everything before He disappeared. Changing the past in the distant past, and then changing the future in the past-only an old fogey like that could pull it off.”
The young girl couldn’t help but sigh.
“Even an existence like that can go missing?”
Lin Ye rarely encountered things he absolutely couldn’t understand, but now he truly couldn’t grasp the sheer power of crossing time.
“Actually, achieving immortality isn’t that hard. If your flesh decays, you replenish it with flesh. If your spirit withers, you replenish it with spirit. Let alone deities, even near-divine beings can achieve immortality.
The only condition is not encountering something that can kill you.”
The young girl leaned back against the hospital bed, a somewhat complicated expression on her face.
“I’m tired. Let’s stop here for today.”
The young girl closed her eyes, and Lin Ye returned to the Shelter.
……………………………………
Lin Ye climbed out of bed. The red piglet was still lying on the floor sleeping. The Penguin Doll and Scapegoat had burrowed into his blanket.
“Time to get up!”
Lin Ye woke up all the pets in the Shelter. Even though so many days had passed, he had actually only left the Shelter less than half an hour ago.
“Get up! I’m taking you all to the Rest Area for a feast!”
Perhaps the effects of Gluttony were still lingering in his mind, but Lin Ye just wanted to stuff himself now. He could worry about the future later.
Hearing that they were going to eat at the Rest Area, the red piglet propped up its upper body and turned its head to look at Lin Ye with fiery enthusiasm.
“I can eat with you until the afternoon, but you’d better give me a decent skill this afternoon.”
Lin Ye tried to negotiate with the red piglet.
The red piglet nodded its piggy head, reaching a consensus with Lin Ye.
“Then let’s go.”
Lin Ye brought all the pets with him to the Rest Area.
Perhaps knowing that Lin Ye was hungry, Xiao Bai had already booked a restaurant in advance. This time, they were going to a buffet that was three whole floors tall, with every floor packed with delicacies from different Planes.
The pets ran from the ground floor to the top, then back down again, eating with great joy.
Lin Ye also indulged in a buffet for the first time in ages. Back when he was in school, he would occasionally go eat at buffets with his classmates.
For someone like Lin Ye, who didn’t like binge eating, trying to get his money’s worth was still pretty tough.
From a cost-effectiveness perspective, he preferred ordering dishes at small restaurants. Back then, for just over ten bucks per person, you could get several pretty decent dishes.
Lin Ye was thinking about all these trivial things while systematically eating his way through the entire restaurant.
After making a full circuit of the restaurant, he settled into a fixed seat and had the pets go to the different floors to bring him the dishes he wanted.
The little dog loved this job, constantly running back and forth in the restaurant. It would also bring the same dishes to Little Black and the red piglet.
The Scapegoat sat next to Lin Ye, holding a pair of chopsticks, occasionally picking out some interesting food from his plate.
The Penguin Doll didn’t need to eat, but it seemed to really enjoy drinking various beverages.
Little Black started out picking its own food, but eventually, it just lay on the ground waiting for the little dog to feed it.
The table in front of the red piglet was piled high with empty plates. Bionic attendants kept bringing cart after cart of food in front of it, while using handcarts to cart away the ever-growing mountain of empty plates on the table.
