"Commander, we really can’t hold on any longer, let’s retreat! We can’t let the entire army be wiped out here!" The red-haired old man’s deputy general walked in with an anxious face, a trace of deep despair in his voice.
The Eastern Continent border had endured several consecutive waves of brutal attacks from the Demon Race army, despite the defense forces resisting with all their might, casualties remained disastrous, their defense lines had been steadily eroded away, leaving only the very last sliver intact.
The red-haired old man remained silent, his gaze was profound, as if it could pierce through the veil of reality, yet a fleeting flash of reluctance and pain crossed his eyes.
He lifted his head and gazed into the distance, a firm, unshakable light shimmering in his eyes. "We hold them off one more time, after defending this final time, we retreat!"
The deputy general’s eyes filled with extreme despair, it was all useless.
They had defended for so long only to inevitably be broken through, why not just leave from the start? At least that would have preserved their troops, if they continued now, wouldn’t the remaining soldiers just be dying in vain?
He didn’t know what had gotten into the Commander, failing to grasp such a simple calculation.
Right at this moment, a soldier rushed in hastily. "Report! Commander, urgent military intelligence!"
The red-haired old man frowned, he knew that intelligence arriving at a time like this was ninety percent related to the Demon Race, he waved his hand, signaling the soldier to report.
The soldier came before the red-haired old man, hurriedly saluted, and shouted anxiously, "Commander, we just received intelligence! The Demon Race has amassed its forces again and is launching a rapid assault toward our position!"
"Just as I expected," the red-haired old man muttered, a sharp glint flashed through his eyes, he stood up, patted the deputy general heavily on the shoulder, and said in a deep voice, "Pass down the order, the entire army is to prepare for battle, this will be our final campaign."
Although the deputy general’s heart was full of intense reluctance, he knew the Commander’s decision could not be changed, he could only nod, turn around, and leave to pass down the orders.
The red-haired old man stood inside the command tent, his gaze deep and profound, he knew that in this upcoming battle, they would face immense pressure, it might even end in total annihilation, but he had to do this, not just for the Eastern Continent, but for the entire Mysterious Yellow Great World.
He looked up at the sky, his aged, weathered fists clenched tightly.
If everyone else refuses to act, then he would be the one to force their hand.
...
"Young Master, it seems the war is getting worse and worse, even here in the central region, there are so many people fleeing."
Cecilia looked at the inn, packed to the brim with people, and her pretty brows furrowed.
Adam didn’t answer, he gave a light nod, looking at the chaotic crowds lugging large and small bags, dragging their families along, squeezing together desperately just to secure a single room.
His expression was somewhat grim, this was the central region of the Eastern Continent, thousands of miles from the border, logically, it should be the area least affected by the war, yet even here the devastating shockwaves were being felt, it showed just how tragic things had become at the frontlines.
The lingering doubt still remained in his heart.
Can’t the Heavenly Court just intervene and suppress this? What exactly are they considering? Is the Demon Race truly this overwhelmingly powerful?
Even the Heavenly Court has no confidence in suppressing them and needs to use a war of attrition to wear down the Demon Race’s strength?
Adam couldn’t figure it out, and his current strength didn’t allow him to investigate the truth.
"Let’s sleep outside tonight, we’ll reach the Bamboo Pear Grotto-Heaven by tomorrow!"
"Yes, Young Master!" Cecilia didn’t mind at all.
Rushing all this way, taking the ground as their bed and the sky as their blanket, accompanied by the starry river in their dreams, they had long since gotten used to it, if not for the fact that the Grotto-Heaven only opened tomorrow, they would have rushed straight there tonight.
The next day.
Adam and Cecilia woke up in a sturdy tree and headed straight for the Grotto-Heaven’s location.
Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands had been dream cultivation sanctuaries for cultivators since ancient times.
This particular Grotto-Heaven was hidden within a vast mountain range, like a secret realm forgotten by the world.
Naturally, Adam and Cecilia weren’t the only ones who had come.
When they arrived at the entrance, they saw a towering mountain peak rising abruptly from the ground, wreathed in clouds and mist, seemingly reaching into the heavens.
In front of the peak, a large crowd was already waiting for the secret realm to open, most of their strengths hovered around the First Heaven of the Deity Realm, with very few at the Second Heaven.
Halfway up the mountain, a cave entrance radiated faint spiritual energy fluctuations, looking mysterious and solemn.
Just as Adam and Cecilia were about to step forward...
"Everyone, please go back, my Azure Leaf Sect has claimed this Grotto-Heaven, if you don’t want trouble, leave!"
Suddenly, a figure in azure robes appeared in mid-air and shouted, this voice exploded like a thunderclap, making everyone’s ears buzz.
They looked up and saw a young man standing in the void, his aura like a rainbow and his robes fluttering, resembling a descending immortal.
The crowd immediately burst into discussion, the Azure Leaf Sect was a highly renowned sect in the Eastern Continent, boasting formidable strength and profound foundations, for them to want to monopolize this Grotto-Heaven wasn’t entirely impossible.
"The Azure Leaf Sect is trying to swallow all the benefits for themselves!" someone muttered in dissatisfaction.
"They have the strength, so they can naturally do as they please." Another person shook their head helplessly.
Adam and Cecilia exchanged a glance, a trace of coldness flashing through their eyes, although they didn’t want to cause trouble, they weren’t afraid of it either.
If the Azure Leaf Sect really intended to forcefully occupy this Grotto-Heaven, they wouldn’t just sit idly by.
