Three left.

They were frantically backing away. Their hands were shaking so violently they were dropping their empty magazines onto the concrete.

"USE THE DISRUPTOR! BURN HER MANA!" the third assassin yelled, ripping a heavy, glowing grenade from his tactical belt.

He primed the grenade, desperate to throw the anti-magic field and burn her power away.

Vespera simply smiled.

Her dark tail lashed out, stretching to an impossible length across the dark roof.

The glowing pink blade spiked directly through the assassin's chest. It lifted his entire heavy, armored body completely off the ground.

He gasped in shock, dropping the primed grenade right onto the concrete.

Vespera flicked her tail like a heavy whip.

The assassin was violently hurled across the rooftop. His body slammed into the concrete elevator housing so hard his ribcage shattered into pure powder.

He slumped to the floor, completely dead before he even stopped moving.

The grenade detonated.

BZZZZZT.

A massive wave of burning static washed over the dark rooftop.

It was an expensive Vanguard weapon, designed to completely erase high-level magic on contact.

Vespera just stood directly in the center of the blast.

Her dark wings twitched. She tilted her head, looking at the two remaining killers with a look of genuine, adorable confusion.

"Was that supposed to tickle?" Vespera asked, her voice dripping with sadistic mockery.

The two remaining men completely broke.

They turned and sprinted toward the edge of the roof, desperate to scale down the side of the building and flee into the smog.

Death by falling was infinitely better than being ripped apart by a demon.

"Leaving so soon?" Vespera pouted.

She moved faster than a speeding bullet.

She appeared directly in front of the fourth assassin. Her pale hand shot forward, burying her razor-sharp black nails deep into his thick chest armor.

She didn't pierce the metal. She just grabbed it.

She violently hurled the screaming man backward.

He flew through the air, crashing brutally into the heavy, rusted metal air vents.

Before he could even slide to the ground, Vespera was already there.

She straddled his chest, firmly pinning his arms down with her knees.

Her glowing red eyes stared straight down into his terrified, wide eyes visible through his shattered mask.

She leaned down, bringing her flawless face mere inches from his.

She inhaled deeply, drawing the sweet scent of his raw, unfiltered panic directly into her lungs.

"Ah," Vespera moaned softly, her eyes fluttering shut in pure ecstasy.

"You taste like absolute despair."

She opened her mouth, revealing a terrifying row of razor-sharp demonic fangs.

She bit down violently.

She tore the assassin's throat completely out in a single, brutal rip of flesh and metal.

Hot, dark blood sprayed violently across her pale cheeks.

She swallowed the gore, letting out a deeply satisfied, euphoric sigh.

The final man had finally reached the edge of the roof.

He scrambled frantically over the concrete ledge. He engaged his climbing boots, desperate to slide down the sheer glass face of the skyscraper.

He sobbed in pure relief as he began to descend into the dark.

He actually thought he had made it.

SHHHHLLLLCK.

The glowing pink blade sliced silently through the freezing air.

It cleanly severed both of the assassin's legs right at the knees.

His heavy boots remained perfectly attached to the side of the building, clinging uselessly to the glass.

The man didn't even realize he had been cut until absolute gravity took over.

He looked down, staring at his own severed boots still stuck to the building as his body began to fall.

His horrific, blood-curdling scream faded into the toxic smog as he plummeted eighty stories to the ruined streets below.

The freezing rooftop fell completely silent, save for the lonely howling of the wind.

It had taken exactly fourteen seconds.

Five of the Vanguard's absolute elite assassins were reduced to a horrifying mess of severed limbs, crushed armor, and pooling blood.

Vespera stood up slowly, stretching her pale arms high above her head.

She licked a stray drop of blood from the corner of her lips, her glowing red eyes shining with deep, twisted satisfaction.

She didn't look like a nightmare monster. She looked like a dark queen who had just finished a very light workout.

She turned and floated gracefully across the ruined concrete.

Her bare feet hovered mere inches above the bubbling gore.

She silently approached Kaelen Cross.

Throughout the entire bloody slaughter, Kael hadn't moved a single inch.

He was still perfectly flat on the freezing concrete. His silver eye was glued to the glowing scope, and his finger rested calmly on the trigger.

He had completely ignored the absolute apocalypse happening just ten feet behind him. He trusted her completely to keep his blind spot clear.

Vespera's chaotic, demonic heart fluttered in her chest.

No mortal had ever trusted her. They only screamed in terror, or foolishly tried to bind and control her.

But this sniper just let her completely off the leash. He didn't even flinch at the sound of raining blood.

She floated down, kneeling softly on the cold concrete right beside him.

She reached up with her pale hand, delicately wiping a smear of hot blood from her flawless cheek.

She leaned in close, pressing her cold, pale body intimately against his heavy leather armor.

Her long, dark tail slithered forward like a snake. It wrapped securely and highly possessively around Kael's waist.

She rested her chin gently on his broad shoulder, peering curiously down the length of the massive sniper barrel.

"They tasted like absolute cowardice," Vespera whispered, her sweet breath freezing against his warm neck.

"A bit stringy. But fun."

Kael didn't look away from the glowing scope.

He didn't pull away from her intimate, demonic embrace.

He simply reached up and pulled the heavy bolt of his rifle back.

SHHHK-CLICK.

"Good girl," Kael rasped, his voice completely flat and deadpan.

Vespera shivered violently. A dark, deeply euphoric blush rose to her pale cheeks.

Up in the corner of his vision, the cosmic streaming interface was undergoing a complete, catastrophic meltdown.

[SYSTEM ALERT: VIRAL APEX REACHED!]

The cosmic chat box was completely unreadable. It was a violently scrolling waterfall of pure, unadulterated hype.

The viewing entities had completely lost their minds over the sheer, absurd flex they had just witnessed.

Massive, glowing gold text completely overrode the chaotic chat. It hovered majestically in the dead center of Kael's vision, forcing all the other frantic messages to instantly bow down and vanish.

Kael allowed a faint, razor-thin smirk to cross his lips.

He felt Vespera's dark tail tighten affectionately around his waist, soaking in the supreme praise from the cosmic audience.

"Are we done playing?" Vespera purred, her glowing red eyes scanning the ruined, smog-choked city below.

"Almost," Kael whispered.

He calmly adjusted the magnification on his glowing neural scope.

Down in the dark subway, Seraphina had completely secured the blood-soaked concourse.

The heavy giants were dead.

The shadow assassins on the roof were dead.

The elite strike team in the streets was scattered, broken, and utterly wiped out.

Out of fifty elite Vanguard killers sent to erase him, only a single red thermal signature remained active on his tracking grid.

Commander Jax.

Kael tracked the glowing red outline through the concrete walls.

Jax wasn't fighting. He wasn't rallying his broken men.

He was running.

The heavy commander was sprinting frantically away from the sector, pushing his mechanical legs to their absolute breaking point.

He had finally realized the horrifying truth.

The phantom sniper wasn't just a lucky survivor. He was a ruthless god of death, armed with a weapon that defied reality, and backed by monsters straight out of nightmares.

"Target acquired," Kael murmured softly into the howling wind.

"Are you going to shoot him, darling?" Vespera asked.

She leaned closer, tracing her razor-sharp black nail lightly over the back of Kael's weathered hand.

"I'm going to make him a message," Kael replied.

His voice dropped into a cold register of absolute, terrifying darkness.

The cosmic system flared violently, sensing the bloody climax of the hunt.

The live viewer count skyrocketed, rapidly approaching the impossible one-million mark.

Kaelen Cross tightened his iron grip on the heavy stock of The Panopticon.

It was time for the execution.
