Godslayer's Legend

Chapter 1042: This is WAR I

The time between Diablo’s declaration of war and the end of Hades’ attack on Dodekapolis was less than an hour.

And yet, there were already devils knocking on Olympus’ doorstep before the universe could even recover from the loss of 4 Main Entities, 2 of whom governed the critically important Aspect of War.

How were there devils already at Olympus less than an hour after Diablo’s declaration?

The answer was exceedingly simple, but complex all the same.

The first thing that should be noted was that Diablo’s declaration of war had been recorded by Diablo himself.

This recording was then distributed to the dozens of universes allied with the Hell Universe’s Devildom.

As for the means of travel, it was naturally the drifters working under Larry who had brought Diablo and Creusery to Olympus, making use of the trip that Arthur had passed on to Diablo.

Larry accepted Diablo’s commission to deliver the Declaration of War, along with another note addressed to the rulers of these universes, calling on them to take up arms.

The ones who spread across the multiverse to make these deliveries were not the Deity Realm drifters that those within this region of the multiverse were familiar with, but the far more powerful Cosmic Realm drifters, whose spatial travel speeds were incomparable to those of their Deity Realm counterparts.

Larry mobilised the Elder Breed Drifters under his command, and for these powerful drifters who could travel across multiverses, the task was something they could complete with both eyes closed.

Of course, questions were raised, but Larry was their superior, so they had no choice but to carry out his orders, even if they had questions. Besides, those questions disappeared the moment Larry revealed that the lord of all drifters across the Cosmos had personally ordered him to aid Arthur.

Helping Diablo rally forces for war against Olympus after Arthur was killed there by its King counted as ’aiding Arthur’ in Larry’s book.

While some of Diablo’s allied Universal Masters didn’t act immediately, there were warmongers among them who didn’t hesitate to issue orders.

For hundreds of thousands of years, the devil and demon ruled universes that existed within the same region as Olympus, Asgard, and the other divine-ruled universes had maintained spies, infiltrators, and secret Multi-Universal Gates near Olympian territory.

Upon receiving Diablo’s declaration, some of those Universal Masters ordered these hidden, dormant forces to move against Olympus, and that was the intrusion Poseidon and Zeus sensed shortly after Hades sealed the Underworld.

It wasn’t any universe’s main force, nor was it a proper army.

They didn’t even launch a proper attack, only a blitzkrieg.

However, the timing of their actions and the locations they targeted during those hit-and-run operations inflicted severe damage upon Olympus.

What’s more, Larry ordered some Elder Breed drifters to assist these forces, allowing them to escape retaliation from the Olympian first responders.

One could argue that this violated the drifters’ oath of neutrality during wartime, but there was one crucial detail within that oath that many in this region of the multiverse didn’t know.

The only drifters bound by that oath of neutrality were the Deity Realm drifters who primarily operated in this region.

The Sub-Cosmic and Cosmic Realm drifters who worked in other regions of the multiverse and across other multiverses weren’t bound by it, and they paid it no mind.

Only during conflicts on a multi-universal scale were they required to stay neutral, and even then, that neutrality could disappear with a single word from their Progenitor, Nash.

With their aid, the initial attack on Olympus during its most vulnerable time, when Diablo had damaged the universe itself, and Hades had killed four Main Entities and sealed the Underworld, was a resounding success.

Even if only by a small margin, Olympus was already on the back foot, and the organised armies of all involved parties hadn’t even moved.

The actual military response from Hell only began mobilising after Diablo and Creusery returned with the unconscious Cattleya.

The allied devil-ruled universes were still trying to understand the situation that led to Diablo’s sudden declaration of war.

Diablo didn’t hide the information, nor did the drifters who wanted to profit off these Universal Masters who were desperate to know what the hell had just happened.

As it was common knowledge in this region of the multiverse that Hades was Arthur’s father, all who heard the reason for Diablo’s sudden declaration of war wanted to know how Hades reacted.

The answers they received in response to their questions shocked them all.

The fact that Hades killed four Main Entities of his own universe and kidnapped a fifth, taking all their souls to the Underworld before sealing it up, was shocking.

Sure, they expected a reaction from Hades, but this went far beyond what they had anticipated.

This also served to confirm to them that the war was real.

With this, the universes that had been craving conflict and had only held back out of respect for Diablo or fear of his influence began gathering their legions.

Devil Universes raised armies, Demon Universes gathered their hordes, and Giant Universes prepared their War Clans.

Dark Elves, Fallen Angels and Fallen Celestials that had been oppressed by Olympus’s allied divine universes formed coalitions and got ready, as they knew that if Olympus was at war, then their allies wouldn’t sit by.

As for those allies, they were all shocked.

Well, most of them were.

A few of them were well aware of what Zeus intended to do, and were already prepared for the possibility of war, their armies already primed.

For those who were out of the small loop Zeus and Alkosh kept, they were stunned by the news.

From their perspective, the situation was insane.

One moment, everything was peaceful, and the next, drifters were clamouring with movement, and when they investigated, they discovered the reason for the drifters’ movements was tied to Olympus and Hell, and for some reason, the word ’WAR’ was being thrown around.

Deeper investigations, with some directly buying the information from the drifters, revealed a series of events that felt like something out of a fever dream.

First, Zeus apparently killed the ’Child of Destruction’ prophesied to bring an end to the gods, and in response, Hades, the child’s father, attacked Zeus and killed four of the Twelve Olympians before sealing off the Underworld.

For some reason, Diablo was at the scene, and he’d declared war on Olympus, and then small devil armies mixed with a few rogue giants attacked some strategic points in Olympus.

All of these somehow happened in less than 24 hours.

The situation escalated so quickly that by the time some of these god Kings in distant universes received the news several days to weeks later, legions had already begun to mobilise.

At first, many wanted to stay out of this war with Olympus.

As far as they were concerned, this was simply Zeus getting his desserts.

But then they recalled the influence of the Hell Universe across the surrounding region, and how Hell had long served as the stopper that prevented war from breaking out for millennia.

Now that Hell stood at the forefront of war, there was no stopper holding back the bloodthirsty demons and devils.

This led to the realisation that Olympus wasn’t just under attack.

Olympus was only the first target.

Even if Hell won against Olympus and stopped, and that was a big IF, there was no guarantee that Hell’s allies would lower the banners of war after that point.

It could take decades, centuries or even millennia. To begin with, inter-universal war wasn’t something that could be wrapped up in a few months or years, given the scale of warfare, the immense distances involved, the logistics, interventions and the durability of the combatants.

But eventually, there would come a point where the victors and the vanquished would have to be decided. And on the very real possibility that Olympus ended up on the side of the Vanquished...

Then they could be next.

This realisation was what truly motivated Olympus’ allies to mobilise their forces.

Not friendship with Zeus, or loyalty to their fragile alliance that only existed because they were divine-ruled universes in a region of the multiverse filled with devils and demons, but self-preservation.

They had to keep the war’s frontlines within Olympus’s territory, as if Olympus fell, then their universes could become the next battlefields.

Across dozens of universes, rulers began issuing mobilisation orders.

Sleeping armies were awakened, ancient weapons were removed from vaults, inter-universal gateways began to open, and legions that hadn’t set out for hundreds of thousands of years were summoned once more.

In such a manner, the WAR truly began.
