Godslayer's Legend

Chapter 1055: Still Just a Son

Using cosmic energy teleportation combined with the Authority crystal that Arthur had received from Hades years ago, it didn’t take him long to return to the Underworld.

He headed straight for Hades’ palace, and upon arriving, he sensed Persephone teleporting out of the palace toward another region of the Nexarion Galaxy.

Arthur stopped upon noticing her, sent a cursory glance in her direction, before shaking his head and stepping into Hades’ throne hall.

Slipping his hands into his pockets, he spoke.

"I’m back, Dad."

Without looking away from the box in his hands that Persephone had just handed him, Hades quietly replied, "Welcome back."

The man released the box, and it fell into his shadow, vanishing into the darkness before he said, "It seems everything turned out as you’d wanted."

Arthur nodded in response.

"Yeah, everything’s going as planned. The only thing left now is the Ancestral Regression Spell. Once I’m done with that, I guess it’s finally time to make my big entrance.

Grandpa Diablo seems to have already picked a rather interesting location."

Arthur’s mention of Diablo’s actions made Hades raise an eyebrow in mild surprise, curious about how he’d learned this information when he’d only regained his proper sense of self mere minutes ago.

As he’d explained while speaking to Hermes, Arthur had sealed away everything that made him "Arthur Vaughn".

For the past century, his body had been controlled by a different personality from his original one, a temporary placeholder personality operating on the subconscious directives left behind by his original self.

That temporary personality hadn’t experienced anything outside Tartarus and the Underworld until it left to attack Hermes, following the subconscious directive Arthur had left behind.

For the record, Arthur hadn’t specifically designated Hermes as his target. He’d simply left a group of potential targets that included Hermes, Dionysus, Apollo, and Artemis.

However, Hermes had been the closest, while Dionysus and Apollo were out of commission because of Hades’ actions a century ago. As such, the placeholder Arthur, following those subconscious directives, had gone after Hermes.

As for Hades’ curiosity about how Arthur was aware of what was happening outside, the one responsible was naturally the person Arthur had made a deal with over a century ago regarding this plan of his, the plan in which he had to fake his death for a century to buy himself time to grow stronger while hiding right beneath the noses of those who believed they’d killed him.

That person was the half-Flugel, half-Seraphim Candidate of Time known to be the Most Dangerous among them all, Alexia Vladi.

Over the past few years, Alexia had actually been in this region of the multiverse, although her whereabouts had been unknown to the major players in the ongoing war.

While Arthur was travelling back to the Underworld, he’d contacted Alexia and received an immediate response, along with information about what was currently happening in the war.

After all, Diablo’s actions, decimating the Pantheons of several universes by slaughtering their Main Entities and Masters, were also part of Arthur’s plan.

That part of Arthur’s plan had been passed on through Alexia several years earlier, which was why the timing of Diablo’s actions coincided perfectly with the moment Arthur’s hundred-year law comprehension Geass had completely run its course, and his true name Geass had also run its course and could now be released without repercussions.

When Arthur revealed to Hades that Diablo’s recent actions had also been orchestrated by him, Hades fell silent.

For a moment, the way he looked at Arthur was as though he were looking at some foreign, incomprehensible entity rather than his own son.

’Just what had he gone through to change this much?’

Hades knew something had happened to Arthur after he’d left the Hell Universe to Draco Sirus, however, Arthur had refused to tell him what had happened before he’d used the True Name Geass.

Because of that, Hades had no idea of the mental pressure Arthur had been under after his encounter with the Progenitor goddess, Luka Jane Chandra, where he’d been killed and revived by her.

If a near-death experience could change a man, then actually dying and returning to life was more than enough to turn someone into a completely different person.

In a way, that was exactly what had happened to Arthur.

The Arthur of the past would’ve never taken actions he knew would start a war lasting for decades and involving quintillions of beings from more than a hundred universes who had absolutely nothing to do with his situation.

But the current Arthur had done exactly that, despite knowing there would be deaths that could’ve been completely avoided, and despite knowing he’d put many of the people he loved through more than a century of pain.

A hundred years earlier, Arthur had already known Zeus was coming for his life. The request he’d made of Persephone that day had been for her to tell Hades that Zeus’ attempt on his life would fail because Zeus didn’t know how strong he truly was.

The catch was that she’d only tell Hades after Hades had already reacted in rage.

So at the time Hades stormed Dodekapolis and slaughtered the Main Entities of Olympus, he genuinely believed Arthur was dead.

His rage had been real, and so had Cattleya’s when she attacked Zeus.

Arthur hadn’t told either of them about his plan beforehand because he wanted those emotions to be genuine.

Only afterwards did he reveal that he was still alive and that Zeus’ attempt had failed, and indirectly at that.

Hades learned through Persephone’s message, while Cattleya learned through Aleksas and Quinn, who’d travelled to the Hell Universe at Arthur’s request to tell her that Progenitors could sense when their numbers changed, and that those numbers hadn’t changed.

One would’ve expected Hades to be overjoyed upon learning that his son wasn’t dead, but while he was happy, he was also furious with Arthur.

In fact, the two of them had a serious argument when Arthur finally returned to the Underworld in secret, and it had taken Hecate and Persephone stepping in to separate them.

As far as Hades was concerned, Arthur’s actions had been reckless, had placed himself in danger, had put the people who loved him through unnecessary pain, and most importantly, had started a war that would claim the lives of billions.

Arthur, however, had already set foot on the path of doing whatever it took to become stronger, even if that meant starting a war that would kill billions of innocent people. He was already walking down that dark path, and that difference in perspective became a source of still-unresolved tension between Arthur and Hades.

Tartarus was Arthur’s next destination, and he’d already begun gathering cosmic energy to form a gate leading there, but midway, he stopped.

A soft sigh escaped his lips as he turned and walked toward Hades, and to the man’s surprise, Arthur spread his arms and pulled him into a hug.

"Huh?"

Hades couldn’t help making a confused sound at Arthur’s unexpected actions.

Arthur took a deep breath before quietly saying, "Thank you, Dad. For protecting me over the past century while I did something incredibly risky to my existence."

Arthur had made himself completely vulnerable throughout the past century after reducing his power to the level of a Transcendent while hiding in Tartarus.

Without even his original personality present, his body had been operating under a placeholder personality that was essentially himself, but in a half-asleep state, following subconscious directives.

The risks to Arthur’s existence couldn’t have been much higher.

Even so, throughout that century, Hades had protected Arthur, not only from detection by the gods of Olympus, but also from being discovered by the Titans and Giants imprisoned within Tartarus.

The only exception had been his grandfather Kronos, whom Arthur had personally gone to meet and speak with before sealing away his memories.

"Thank you, Dad," Arthur repeated.

Hades lightly patted him on the back before replying, "You’re welcome. Regardless of the circumstances, you’re still my son. Protecting you until you’re strong enough to protect yourself is the least of my responsibilities."

Hearing those words, Arthur smiled lightly.

However, that smile immediately disappeared when Hades spoke again.

"But you have to apologise to your mother."

Arthur flinched.

Hades narrowed his eyes at this reaction before repeating, "You are going to apologise to your mother. Is that clear, Arthur?"

Even though he was now over 190 years old, Arthur was still only a child before his father. Faced with Hades’ directive, he could only nod meekly in silence, making no attempt to justify or defend himself or even point out that Cattleya had already known he was alive.

"Are you okay? Mentally?" Hades asked.

It was a question he had to ask, especially considering what Arthur had done with his memories.

"I’m perfectly fine," Arthur replied with a nod. "As I said, the placeholder personality was basically just a half-asleep version of the normal me.

There’s no issue with my personality or memories. The past hundred years are simply stored in my mind as memories of what I personally experienced. So yeah, I’m fine."

He turned around and broke open a Cosmic Gate, stepping into it as he said, "Now then, let’s head to where Gaia is sealed. Time to finally cast that damn Ancestral Regression Spell."

Hades exhaled softly as Arthur disappeared beyond the gate, heading toward Gaia’s sealing location ahead of him. He pulled out a communication device and issued a few orders to Hecate and Thanatos before using cosmic energy to create a cosmic gate and stepping through it to follow Arthur.

The vast majority of the Olympian Pantheon had no idea where Gaia was sealed. Only the Twelve Olympians, Hades, Hestia, and Hecate were aware of the location.

The Primordial goddess of Earth and Creation had her shrunken body sealed on a green planet in a distant corner of a random galaxy, a world inhabited by mortal humans who had absolutely no idea their planet housed a Protogenoi.

Rather than placing her seal within some specially constructed location, they had chosen to seal Gaia on a random planet inhabited by mortals, within a star system containing multiple similar planets inhabited by mortals, inside a galaxy filled with habitable worlds.

Everything around the seal appeared perfectly ordinary, and only someone specifically searching for Gaia’s seal while knowing exactly what traces to look for could ever find it.

Arthur and Hades, concealed by Hades’ Authority of Darkness, slipped past every magic, ether, and divinity defensive formation within the cave with ease, and walked right past the bronze automaton created by Hephaestus to patrol the area without being detected.

They continued onward until they reached the deepest part of the cave, which was practically an entirely different place.

Looking upward, they beheld the giant goddess encased within a layer of stone, her eyes closed and her head resting upon a mountain.
