The area inside the West Wind Martial Arts Hall is quite large, not much different from the Dragon Tiger Martial Arts Hall.
On the training ground, more than a dozen big men were already standing, each dressed in training uniforms, glaring fiercely at Xu Xiangbei when he arrived.
However, there was a tall young man who, upon seeing Xu Xiangbei, shrank back fearfully and tried to hide behind his fellow apprentices.
Xu Xiangbei felt the tall young man looked familiar and suddenly remembered he was the guy who had been beaten by him at Brother Hua Ji’s repair shop.
Walking through the crowd at the door and into the center of the training ground, Xu Xiangbei saw Fatty Cui kneeling on the ground.
Half of Fatty Cui’s face was red and swollen, likely beaten, but since he was naturally fat, it wasn’t clear whether it was his fat or the swelling.
Upon seeing Xu Xiangbei, Fatty Cui wore an expression of pain and grievance.
Xu Xiangbei gently patted his shoulder: "Fatty Cui, I really have nothing to say to you. If you can’t make a decision, don’t let Gu Jie leave; getting punished is your own doing."
Fatty Cui replied with a crying tone: "Brother Xu, I thought my master was on a business trip and didn’t know about this. Who would’ve thought he’d come back today and ask if Gu Jie had paid back his gambling debts? I could only tell the truth. Calling you here wasn’t my idea, it was my master’s."
"Where is your master?"
A sinister voice came from the distance: "I’m here. You must be Xu Xiangbei, finally seeing you."
Xu Xiangbei turned back in surprise to see a middle-aged martial artist, face covered with a beard and wearing fine steel bracelets on his wrists, approaching from outside the door.
Xu Xiangbei pointed at the group of muscular men standing at the door, scoffing: "You are Fatty Cui’s master? The apprentices you’ve trained aren’t up to par; they may look strong, but they’re useless in a fight."
Hearing Xu Xiangbei say they’re no good at fighting, the big men instantly roared with anger, wanting to rush over and teach Xu Xiangbei a lesson.
"Who are you calling useless, looking for a beating?"
"Come over here, kid, face off with me and see who’s truly useless."
Xu Xiangbei ignored the angry big men ready to charge at him, not paying them any mind, just looking at Master Jiang.
Seeing Xu Xiangbei surrounded by over a dozen martial school students without showing any fear, the composure alone meant this kid was something else.
Master Jiang secretly admired him, waved his hand: "Quiet, stop making noise. You guys indeed can’t take him on, let me handle him."
Hearing their master’s command, the disciples immediately quieted down, no longer making a racket, but each still glared at Xu Xiangbei angrily, as if their gaze could kill, leaving him without a piece of intact flesh.
Xu Xiangbei sat down on a chair as if no one were around: "Master Jiang, don’t punish Fatty Cui either. As long as I’m at the Gu Family, he won’t get a penny."
Master Jiang sneered: "You’re bold, kid. I don’t know if you’re actually skilled or just don’t know life from death."
Xu Xiangbei stared into Master Jiang’s eyes, sneering: "You’ll know whether I’m skilled or not once you try."
Master Jiang lowered his hands: "Everyone back up, let me have a good fight with this Xu Xiangbei. I must see what makes you capable of repeatedly injuring my disciples."
Fatty Cui knew how formidable Xu Xiangbei was, and hearing that his master was going to fight Xu Xiangbei, he quickly got up from the ground.
Fatty Cui awkwardly laughed and said to his master: "Master, I’ll be the referee for you."
Master Jiang glanced at Fatty Cui: "Get lost. You’re the root of all this trouble. Get far away. I don’t need you as a referee, just don’t cause more trouble for me."
A trace of smugness flashed in Fatty Cui’s eyes as he was eager to distance himself from Xu Xiangbei. He sycophantically said: "Master, without a doubt, you’ll defeat Xu Xiangbei. To avoid causing trouble for you, I’ll be off."
With that, Fatty Cui hid at the back of the crowd, only feeling safe there.
He unexpectedly found the tall senior brother also cautiously hiding at the back. From his fearful look, Fatty Cui felt a sense of shared misery.
Both he and the tall senior brother had been beaten by Xu Xiangbei. Whenever they saw him, they invariably thought of staying far from him.
Master Jiang shrewdly smiled: "Dr. Xu, it’s not entertaining enough for just the two of us to fight. How about we raise the stakes a bit?"
Xu Xiangbei seemed very interested, widening his eyes: "Master Jiang is right, it’s not fun to just fight. What kind of stakes do you have in mind? Tell me."
Master Jiang cunningly said: "If we fight and you lose, you pay me five million, plus Gu Jie’s gambling debts, making it a total of ten million."
Xu Xiangbei thought for a moment, then laughed and gave a thumbs-up: "Master Jiang, you seem like a wise person. Your proposal is excellent, but..."
Seeing that Xu Xiangbei agreed to his proposal and would owe a total of ten million if he lost, Master Jiang was secretly delighted. However, he saw the twist coming and thought Xu Xiangbei might backtrack, so his face darkened, "But what? Speak up."
Xu Xiangbei’s smile was wicked: "But, your stakes are too low, not matching Master Jiang’s reputation. As the famous principal of the West City Martial Arts School with no fewer than eight hundred to a thousand students, winning only five million is too little. I ought to raise the stakes a bit for you."
Upon hearing this, Master Jiang’s mouth almost crooked with joy, thinking this guy must be foolish to lose and offer more money: "How much are you raising it by?"
Xu Xiangbei extended two fingers: "Twenty million. If you beat me, I’ll give you twenty million."
Master Jiang looked incredulous, stunned, and looked at his disciples around him, who were also dumbfoundedly looking at him.
Fatty Cui knew his master doubted that Xu Xiangbei could afford twenty million, so he smirked: "Master, don’t worry. I investigated his background. Dr. Xu isn’t just a doctor; he’s the president of Thunderbird Group, worth billions, and can well afford twenty million."
Xu Xiangbei disdainfully glared at Fatty Cui: "You’ve really done your homework, knowing my details thoroughly. No wonder you dared to return Gu Jie, hoping to catch a big fish with a small one."
Fatty Cui grimaced: "I can’t handle you. Matters between you and my master are beyond me. I was just curious about your identity and looked it up online."
Master Jiang was a bit surprised that someone as young as Xu Xiangbei was the president of Thunderbird Group.
Even as a middle-aged man who enjoyed gaming, some of the games he played were developed by Thunderbird Group, so he knew it was a wealthy, high-tech public company.
He made an effort not to laugh out loud: "Haha, kid, you’re generous, I like it. But remember, if I win, you owe me twenty million."
