The setting sun melted into gold as the last rays of sunlight gradually shone into a hospital room window at Jiangcheng Second People’s Hospital. Xu Xiangbei awoke and, upon lifting his head, saw Qin Xue sitting beside him, her gaze tender.

"You rogue, you’re awake!" Xu Xiangbei stared at Qin Xue, seeing her in a light green dress. Her face was free of makeup, fresh and elegant, like a girl-next-door sitting by his bedside.

Their gazes met in mid-air, wrapped in a mysterious atmosphere.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Qin Xue blushed, biting her rosy lips.

"Oh, nothing, just seeing a fairy sitting by my bed, I couldn’t help myself!" Xu Xiangbei snapped back to reality, grinning mischievously as he complimented her.

"Flattering me now, are you, you rogue! Tell me, are you up to something mischievous again?" Qin Xue’s face turned even redder, like a ripening apple.

She then glared coldly at Xu Xiangbei and swung her hand, delivering a playful slap.

"Cough!" Xu Xiangbei was taken by surprise by her sudden attack and couldn’t dodge it.

"What happened? Did it hurt?" Qin Xue asked with concern, seeing the pained expression on Xu Xiangbei’s face, her worry evident.

"I had used up all my inner strength saving Elder Zhou, leaving my whole body aching, weak like an elderly man on the brink of collapse. Now, with your slap, I’m all uncomfortable as if my bones have scattered!" Xu Xiangbei complained, feigning discomfort. This scared Qin Xue, who thought she’d hurt Xu Xiangbei seriously.

"What’s wrong? Where does it hurt? Tell me, I didn’t mean it!"

Seeing Qin Xue’s anxious expression, Xu Xiangbei almost burst into laughter but continued to feign terrible pain.

"My chest feels tight and stuffy. I wonder if your slap injured my organs; I can hardly breathe!"

"What should we do? Should I call Dr. Jiang?" Qin Xue was getting anxious, covered in sweat at Xu Xiangbei’s near breathless state.

"I’m a doctor; I know that it’s probably just a temporary blockage of air in the chest. Massaging it will work!" Xu Xiangbei aimed for this outcome. He couldn’t have the doctors come, only to find nothing wrong and expose his bluff.

Qin Xue hesitated but then laid her fair hands on Xu Xiangbei’s chest and back, massaging continuously. Her hands moved as if sandwiching a pancake, pressing Xu Xiangbei in the middle.

With their bodies so close, her tender earlobes, flushing red, almost touched Xu Xiangbei’s face, and their faces leaned so close they nearly touched.

Breathing in the masculine scent from Xu Xiangbei, Qin Xue’s face flushed deeper, but she kept moving her hands over his chest and back gently.

Xu Xiangbei felt a wave of comfort washing over him, as if engulfed in a realm of tenderness. The delicate Jasmine scent from the front, combined with the soft hands massaging him, left an expression of enjoyment on his face.

Fortunately, Qin Xue turned her face away, too shy to look at him. Otherwise, if she saw his look of enjoyment and realized his ploy, she might even want to kill Xu Xiangbei.

"Feeling better?" Qin Xue’s face reddened even more. She had never been so close to a boy, especially one who had stolen her first kiss. Her heart raced faster, seemingly beyond her control.

"It feels a bit better, but still a little stuffy. Keep massaging a little longer." Xu Xiangbei wore a face of enjoyment.

At this point, their actions seemed to an outsider as those of lovers in an embrace, escalating the atmosphere into something more subtle. Xu Xiangbei felt he could barely restrain himself from hugging this soft figure before him.

"Ahem, you two!" Jiang Yuyan in a white coat, flat shoes, exuded a bold and refreshing aura. Seeing Xu Xiangbei and Qin Xue like that, she blushed and, seeing she’d been noticed, had no choice but to greet them.

"Ah!" Qin Xue immediately jumped off Xu Xiangbei as if someone had caught her with a guilty conscience.

"We didn’t do anything, he just said he felt stuffy, so I was helping him massage his chest!" Qin Xue, face flushed, wished she could find a hole to hide in, continuously trying to explain.

Jiang Yuyan initially blushed at witnessing the scene, and upon hearing Qin Xue’s explanation, her gaze filled with a hint of understanding, as if to say she didn’t mind and hadn’t seen anything.

"Xu Xiangbei, you rogue, aren’t you going to explain a bit?" Qin Xue, seeing Jiang’s look, knew something was misunderstood, leaving her with no option but to push Xu Xiangbei out to explain.

"Yes, we hadn’t done anything yet, no, I mean we didn’t do anything!" Xu Xiangbei stated emphatically, nodding vigorously.

Hearing his words, Qin Xue blushed even more, wanting to kill Xu Xiangbei. The more they explained, the more it confirmed they intended something!

"You did that on purpose, didn’t you? Is your chest still stuffy?" Qin Xue gritted her teeth.

"The tightness is gone; I’m all better!" Xu Xiangbei stated matter-of-factly.

Seeing him profit and still act shamelessly, intent on muddying the waters, Qin Xue was furious, yet found no words to counter.

"Dr. Jiang, I have things to attend to at the police station, I’ll head off first. You two take your time!" Qin Xue, her face still flushed, hurried to make her escape.

"It’s all right, I should have knocked before coming in, that’s on me. I was just checking on Mr. Xu’s condition. Don’t worry, it’ll only take a few minutes, I won’t bother you!" Jiang Yuyan replied with a hint of embarrassment.

"It’s really not what you think. I’m leaving now. Don’t worry, you have a look. Better give him an injection, maybe some IV, because I suspect there’s something wrong with his head!" Qin Xue felt more muddled the more she explained.

"I’ll get you tonight!" Qin Xue glared at Xu Xiangbei, eyes full of anger, and said maliciously, but immediately realized her words sounded wrong, and Jiang Yuyang’s gaze turned odd.

"Got it, I’ll make sure to recover well by tonight. You can ’deal with me’ properly; we’ve got plenty of time!" Xu Xiangbei emphasized ’deal with me’ heavily, full of insinuation.

Qin Xue felt an urge to give herself a slap, covered her face, and ran out without looking back.

"Let me check your health condition!" Jiang Yuyan suggested, her face a bit flushed after hearing their conversation but quickly regained her composure.

"No, oh, okay, thank you, Dr. Jiang!" Xu Xiangbei meant to decline, confident of his physical condition. However, given the chance to get close to a beauty, how could he refuse?

Jiang Yuyan conducted a series of tests on his blood pressure, pulse, and heartbeat, finding him to be in good health, as sturdy as an ox.

"Your body shows no particular issues. Maybe you just overexerted yourself earlier, which is why you fainted!" Jiang Yuyan said with a slight awkwardness but otherwise gently.

"Of course, my body is very robust, especially in certain capabilities!" Xu Xiangbei teased, a cheeky smile on his face.

"So young and unaware of moderation, you’ll eventually..." Her face turned slightly pink, she wanted to say more but held back.

"Dr. Jiang, what are you thinking? I meant to say I’m very strong, where’s the need for moderation? Besides, constantly exercising; there’s no finite strength, so no harm in using it more." Xu Xiangbei feigned innocence with sincerity.

"You..." Jiang Yuyan realized she had been teased, gritting her teeth at Xu Xiangbei but was speechless for a moment.

However, Xu Xiangbei’s next words shattered her completely.

"By the way, wife, when do you plan to fulfill the duties of a wife?" Xu Xiangbei gazed boldly at her, sizing her up and down, making strange noises as though eyeing a prey ready to be captured.

"What?" Jiang Yuyan’s face flushed deeper, wanting to find a hole to dive into, but she feigned ignorance, hoping to get away with it.

"Didn’t our bet conclude with me winning? Doesn’t that make you my wife? Are you trying to renege on our agreement?" Xu Xiangbei couldn’t miss such a golden opportunity.

"Did we? I don’t recall. Bring me the evidence!" Jiang Yuyan gave him a sly glance, her face feigning cluelessness.

"You..." Xu Xiangbei pointed at her, face filled with indignation.

"What about me?"

"I recall someone saying, ’A man of his word is as good as his bond!’"

"Ah, I’m sorry, I’m a woman, not a man."
