Great Li Martial God

Chapter 334: Entering the City

The people around the gates stared in a momentary daze.

This was the Great Xuan imperial capital, the central core of the entire Great Xuan dynasty. Even the seven great martial world sects would not have dared act with the slightest impropriety here.

And yet the people in this carriage had not hesitated for even an instant, and had simply gone ahead and demolished the capital's gates.

More than that, they had sent the Silver Soul Army's gate commander, the Great Xuan emperor's own trusted officer, flying, his fate unknown.

For a moment everyone was left in stunned disbelief, genuinely unable to fathom that these seemingly ordinary travelers could be so staggeringly brazen, making such a scene at the Great Xuan capital's gates. This was an affront to the entire Great Xuan court, and speaking more seriously, an affront to the Great Xuan emperor himself.

And while everyone was still standing there stunned, Cao Gaoshan cracked the whip without missing a beat, and the carriage continued straight through without pausing, passing over the shattered remnants of the great gates and rolling directly into the Great Xuan capital as though entering an empty field.

"All personnel, move out. That carriage must not be allowed through."

Given the situation that had just played out, it was naturally not the case that only one Silver Soul Army general was guarding the gates of Taixuan City.

And so, in the wake of the gate commander being driven back and crashing through the gates to disappear an entire street away, several other generals who had been stationed at the gates, along with a number of experts from the Great Xuan imperial palace, stopped holding back entirely and launched their full strength simultaneously at the carriage Cao Gaoshan was driving into the city.

The other party had just knocked back a Silver Soul Army general in a single move, which made clear that their martial cultivation was absolutely not to be underestimated.

And whoever dared to force their way into the Great Xuan imperial capital almost certainly had something very formidable to back them up.

In light of all that, no amount of caution was excessive. They all went all out together without reservation.

But it made not the slightest difference.

Several generals and imperial palace experts moved through the air toward the carriage Cao Gaoshan was driving, closing in and preparing to strike with thunderous force.

In the next instant, every single expert stationed at the Great Xuan capital's gates went flying in the same direction they had come from.

Like the Silver Soul Army commander before them, every one of them was sent retreating an entire street's length without the ability to resist, and none of them showed any sign of stopping.

In barely the blink of an eye, they sailed clean over Taixuan City's walls and continued arcing away into the sky, dwindling into distant black specks with one cry of alarm after another.

The people gathered around the gate fell absolutely silent, staring after those receding figures in a stupor, and swallowing involuntarily.

"Who on earth is that?"

"This is terrifying. Entering this Great Xuan imperial capital was like walking through their own garden gate..."

Snapping back to themselves, the crowd quickly turned their heads and looked through the ruined gates of Taixuan City at the carriage already about to disappear from their view.

At that very moment, Han Meiyan in her red dress, her beautiful and alluring face half-hidden behind her veil, rapidly shifted her expression. She turned to the Young Lord at her side and suddenly said, "Young Lord, the guards who were blocking the gates have all been sent flying out of the city. We should take advantage of this while no one can stop us and get into the capital quickly."

At those words, the Young Lord, who had been left speechless by what he had just witnessed, jolted back to awareness, "Right!"

He then broke into a delighted shout, "Quick, quick, get the carriage moving into the city now. Once those cursed guards come back, we will not get another chance."

With that, he dove back into his carriage, and Han Meiyan narrowed her eyes and immediately followed.

Before long, the lavish carriage started moving, bringing the whole party charging through the ruined gates and into the imperial capital at full speed.

At the same time, quite a few of the other people gathered outside were also moving. The rest, once they came to their senses, did not hesitate for a moment and rushed through the broken gates into the Great Xuan capital as well.

A short while later, the guards who had been sent flying clear of Taixuan City came racing back through the air, their faces the color of ash.

But when they looked down at the area outside the gates, they found it completely empty.

Every single person who had been held up outside the gates had taken advantage of the opening and entered the capital. After all that blocking, not one of them had been stopped.

"Send word back to the palace immediately. An expert of unknown identity has entered the capital. This must be treated with the utmost urgency."

An elderly eunuch from the Great Xuan imperial palace spoke, his expression shifting through a rapid series of changes.

With so many of them attacking together, they had still been unable to stop a single exchange. They had not even been able to see clearly how the other party had acted.

The elderly eunuch also privately suspected that the person in the carriage had been holding back and had no intention of killing them.

Otherwise they would not have been let off with merely these injuries.

This in itself made the other party even more frightening.

Because this was very likely a genuine expert who had no regard for the Great Xuan court whatsoever.

...

At the same time, Cao Gaoshan drove the carriage in a few circles through the streets, then brought it to a stop before an inconspicuous inn.

They had originally planned to rest for half a day in Xuanan City before making the final push to the Great Xuan capital.

But because of the sudden change in circumstances and the Great Xuan court sealing its cities, they had not lingered in Xuanan City and had instead set out early, coming to Taixuan City without a single stop.

After driving for so long to reach their destination, they naturally needed to find a place to rest first.

"This is quite possibly one of the Great Li Hidden Intelligence Bureau's covert outposts in Great Xuan."

Cang Yinyue spoke from inside the carriage. As a Silver-Marked Agent of the Great Li Hidden Intelligence Bureau, she was sharply attuned to certain covert signs the Bureau used.

When they had passed this inn moments before, she had noticed certain seemingly unremarkable markings on the surfaces around it that bore a seventy or eighty percent resemblance to the Bureau's identification signs.

She had therefore suggested stopping here.

Li Musheng naturally had no objection to that. Where they stopped made little difference to him.

Besides, he would not be staying at the inn for long before heading to the Great Xuan imperial palace, where he intended to make quick work of the rescue he had promised the blue-robed Daoist and have that matter settled.

...

The inn looked completely ordinary. Li Musheng and Cang Yinyue and Shen Anran, with the big black cat in tow, went inside and ordered food and drink.

Cao Gaoshan went with a serving boy to see to the carriage.

As for Bai Xiaotang, when Cao Gaoshan had been driving through the city's streets, Li Musheng had simply let go of her midway through.

This was naturally for her own good. After all, Li Musheng had already tested the waters by forcing his way through Taixuan City's gates before doing anything else in the city.

If anyone discovered that Bai Xiaotang was part of his group, she would inevitably draw the attention of the Great Xuan court.

While Li Musheng was around, Bai Xiaotang was naturally safe. But she could not follow them forever.

Once they left Great Xuan, she would be in a very bad position.
