Great Li Martial God

Chapter 345: Clearing the Levels

Facing the large man's question, the Black Moon Yin Elder came back from his own thoughts.

Having confirmed through those two punches that the large man could not kill him, he no longer had any reason to fear the man.

"You crude and uncouth brute. This old man came intending to discuss things with you calmly, but you refused to see reason and forced me to reveal my true abilities."

The Black Moon Yin Elder pulled himself free from the human-shaped dent and stood suspended in the air, his aged face now wearing a look of solemn gravity.

He clasped one hand behind his back and looked at the large man with an air of unfathomable depth, "Since you are asking plainly, this old man's body-hardening cultivation runs fifty full years deep. Do you truly think someone as rough and unrefined as yourself could break through this old man's defenses?"

At those words, an unusual look crossed the large man's eyes.

The old man before him looked decrepit and frail, and his martial cultivation was clearly below the large man's own, but the two punches had proven without question that the elder had an extraordinarily formidable defensive art.

Even so, the large man was not intimidated by the elder's words. He narrowed his eyes, "Old man, body-hardening arts need ample vital energy and blood to sustain them. I will see how many more of my punches you can take with those old bones."

With those words, the large man vanished without warning from the spot, and in the next instant appeared before the Black Moon Yin Elder, slamming another furious punch down directly at the elder's head.

The Black Moon Yin Elder was again sent flying just as before, and just as before he emerged completely unscathed.

Seeing this, the bare-chested large man began breathing more heavily, but was not discouraged.

He then launched punch after punch without any gap, targeting the elder's head, heart, throat, and other vulnerable points with absolute force.

Throughout the second-level hall, the Black Moon Yin Elder could be seen flying around like a kite with a broken string, leaving one human-shaped dent after another in the surrounding iron walls.

After about twenty-odd punches, the large man suddenly stopped. By now he was drenched in sweat and gasping for breath, his true qi in disarray, apparently very close to being completely spent.

But when he looked up, he saw the Black Moon Yin Elder pulling himself free from yet another human-shaped dent, and that dried-wood face turned toward him with an extremely unpleasant expression.

The Black Moon Yin Elder was after all a martial world expert of longstanding reputation. Even if the large man could not kill him, being tossed around like a punching bag was one thing, but the man had also used underhanded strikes against certain private areas of an elderly man's body, and that was more humiliation than his dignity could bear.

"You crude and uncouth brute. Now that you have tired yourself out, it is this old man's turn."

The Black Moon Yin Elder's face was dark with killing intent, and without another word he went on the offensive.

The two came to blows again, but the Black Moon Yin Elder's cultivation was still inferior to the large man's, and while his defense was impenetrable, he found it difficult to do anything to the man in a short time.

"All right, enough. I am done. Go ahead and look for whatever you came here looking for."

At that, the large man raised a hand in surrender and backed away.

He was absolutely exhausted. The old thing's leathery hide simply could not be beaten.

At those words, the Black Moon Yin Elder who had been furious gradually calmed down and remembered why he had come here in the first place.

For a moment his eyes shifted rapidly through several expressions, but in the end he stopped and withdrew.

After the exchange with the large man, he had come to understand clearly how formidable the thread of martial aura Li Musheng had left inside him truly was.

And this in turn had made him genuinely realize, for the first time, that the actual strength of that seemingly unfinished young man was far beyond anything he had estimated.

After all, a single thread of martial aura was enough to leave this terrifyingly strong man completely powerless. From that alone one could imagine how staggering it would be if Li Musheng acted in full force himself.

"Enough of this. Better to get the actual work done first."

The Black Moon Yin Elder's mind moved quickly. Beyond the deterrence of Li Musheng's power, he also held a small and genuine hope that Li Musheng might be able to free him from the poison within him.

"Do you have a Daoist woman imprisoned here?"

The Black Moon Yin Elder stood in the air and asked the large man in a low voice.

The large man wiped the sweat from his forehead, looking somewhat drained, and said, "Just me here. No other prisoners. Go look somewhere else."

At those words, the Black Moon Yin Elder let out a cold snort, and then his figure moved as he quickly searched the several smaller halls on the second level.

But as the large man had said, there was absolutely no one else.

Having found no one, the Black Moon Yin Elder had no reason to linger, and prepared to go up to the next level.

But just before he left, he seemed to think of something, and suddenly stopped and turned back toward the large man, "And while I am at it, you crude and uncouth brute, stop hammering those wretched bells from now on."

At those words, the large man waved his hands repeatedly, "Of course, of course. Never again."

As he said it, his fierce eyes gave a roll, and he continued, "This old senior's body-hardening arts have my deepest admiration. Would you be willing to give me guidance on them sometime in the future?"

At those words, the Black Moon Yin Elder responded with a loud "pfft," and said, "You? Worthy of that?"

With that, he turned directly and went upstairs.

This drew no anger from the large man, who had devoted his entire life to the body-refinement path with something close to obsession. And so the Black Moon Yin Elder, whom he could not harm, had actually earned a measure of his genuine respect and envy.

"That old fellow seems to be going upstairs to keep looking. I wonder how many levels he can last."

The large man watched the Black Moon Yin Elder's departing figure, then, unable to contain his curiosity, his figure moved and he went toward the passage leading to the third level as well.

He wanted to see for himself just how far the Black Moon Yin Elder's body-hardening arts could go, and whether the more powerful guardians on the upper levels could break through the elder's defenses.

At the same time, having gone through his ordeal with the large man, the Black Moon Yin Elder understood clearly that when it came to fighting the guardians on the upper levels, he could not overpower them, but they also could not overpower him. It would only waste his time.

With that in mind, he shifted his approach and came up with a better solution for all concerned.

...

"You want me to strike you three palms and you will just stand there and take them?"

The guardian of the Mystic Mechanism Palace's third level was a square-faced middle-aged man with an iron sword across his back, and he was now looking at the arrived Black Moon Yin Elder with a decidedly unusual expression.

"That is correct. If this old man can withstand three palms from you, I ask that you allow me to search your level for a person."

The Black Moon Yin Elder stood with his hands clasped behind his back, straightening his stooped frame as best he could, and looked at the middle-aged swordsman across from him with perfect calm.
