Pushing the dark thoughts back inside, Adam gently picked Valerian up and placed him on his shoulders.

The little fellow did not know about the strings puppeteering them from the dark. Neither did he know about Phillipe's insidious attack just a few moments ago. He did not need to know any of them.

As his elder brother, it was Adam's duty to shield him from the dangers of the world.

"Brother! Brother!" the little fellow beamed. "These clothes look very pretty. I think they will suit you."

"About time I wore some proper clothes," said Adam as he wore nothing but a pair of loose trousers and the hide of a werewolf sprawled across his shoulders.

Adam carefully inspected the Magus robes.

The base layer, the inner robe, was black in color and made from exceptionally fine material. It was soft to touch yet sturdy, its dark fabric carrying a subtle sheen beneath the light.

A violet sash was tied around the waist, serving as a belt, with its long ends hanging loosely down the side. The combination of black and violet was simple yet striking.

The pants were black as well, made from the same fine material as the inner robe. They were wide-legged and gathered neatly at the ankles, allowing the fabric to drape naturally around the legs.

The outer robe was cream-colored and fell past his knees. It was worn open down the front, with no buttons or clasps, giving it a loose, flowing appearance. The fabric draped naturally around the body, creating an elegant silhouette.

Near the lower edges of the outer robe were intricate floral patterns, delicately embroidered into the cream-colored fabric.

Adam slowly ran his fingers across the robes. They were beautiful. More importantly, they were exceptionally well-made.

Under Valerian's excited urging, Adam finally stripped Phillipe's corpse.

The young dragon had been eyeing the robes for quite some time. "Brother, hurry up!" Valerian beamed. "Try them on."

Adam laughed. He reached into the coffin and unceremoniously pulled the Magus robes off Phillipe's skeletal remains. He had no intention of showing the first king of Valouis any respect. After all, the man had just attempted to take over his body.

Once the corpse had been stripped bare, Adam carefully put on the garments.

The inner robe settled comfortably against his skin, followed by the wide-legged black pants. He tied the violet sash around his waist, allowing its ends to hang loosely at the front.

Finally, he slipped into the cream-colored outer robe. The loose fabric draped naturally over his body. Adam adjusted the sleeves and moved his arms slightly.

His brows quirked in surprise. The robes were exceptionally comfortable.

Despite their appearance, the fabric was surprisingly light. It did not restrict his movements in the slightest. The material was soft against his skin, yet there was a strange sturdiness to it that made the garments feel almost indestructible.

Adam walked around the chamber for a moment, testing the fit. The robes moved naturally with him.

Not bad, he thought.

Valerian's eyes sparkled. "Myu! Brother no longer looks like a homeless person!"

The corner of Adam's lips twitched. "Thanks, I guess."

Only after properly studying the robes did Adam begin to understand their magical properties.

The first function is a self-cleaning spell, he mused.

By infusing a tiny amount of mana into the robes, I can remove all dirt and grime.

That was certainly convenient. He continued examining the artifact.

The second function allows the robes to repair themselves.

Any tears or damage could be restored through the infusion of mana. Adam nodded approvingly.

But when he discovered the third function, his expression became slightly strange.

The patterns along the lower edge of the outer robe can be changed?

The floral patterns embroidered near the hem slowly shifted. The delicate flowers gradually disappeared, replaced by a kaleidoscope of butterflies.

Adam stared at them silently. His lips couldn't help but twitch. That was it. There were no defensive functions, no offensive spells, no barriers, nothing that would actually help him survive a battle.

The entire artifact was dedicated to appearance and convenience.

Adam glanced toward Phillipe's naked skeleton and sneered.

"You really were an extremely vain man," he murmured.

The first king of the Valouis Kingdom had apparently cared more about looking presentable than practicality.

Self-cleaning, self-repairing, changing the embroidery, Adam thought to himself as he shook his head.

For an artifact of this quality, you couldn't add even a single defensive function?

He looked back at the skeleton with a speechless expression.

What a ridiculous man!

Adam traced a finger along the inner edge of his wide sleeves, his expression gradually brightening.

At least this fourth function is to my liking.

It was something he had been looking for for quite some time.

The wide sleeves of the outer robe were actually a space-type storage artifact. By infusing mana into the runes hidden along the inner edges of the sleeves, he could access a small dimensional storage chamber.

Adam activated the runes at once. His perception immediately entered a small space roughly twenty square meters in area. It was not particularly large, but it was more than enough to store a considerable amount of belongings.

This is good, he thought as his eyes flickered with satisfaction.

No, this is great!

After all, he had been searching for a proper storage artifact for a long time. Just this function alone greatly increased the value of the Magus robes.

He traced his finger along the sleeve again, a faint smile appearing on his face.

Finally, something useful.

Just putting on those robes had changed Adam's entire aura.

The black inner robe, violet sash, and the cream-colored outer robe gave him the appearance of a proper Magus. The loose, flowing garments made him look relaxed and somewhat carefree, as though he had no concern for the troubles of the world.

Adam looked down at himself and nodded in satisfaction.

He certainly looked the part.

The only thing missing was a pointed hat.

He walked up to the far wall. With a swipe of his hand, all the books and parchments on the shelves vanished into his sleeve. He scanned the secret vault thoroughly one last time before heading out.

"Get inside, Val."

"Myu!"

A grey light flashed, and Valerian disappeared into his spirit sea.

Adam raised his head, his gaze seemingly piercing through the layers of obstruction and settling on the throne room. His eyes narrowed.

They had visitors.
