Livia was shocked to learn that Shin had not only arrived at the Amazon village, but was already ordering the Amazons around.
As he had instructed, one of the girls brought her to him and even left them alone inside the Amazon Queen’s house so they could talk in private.
The blond researcher felt extremely embarrassed to be seen wearing the rather shameful clothes the Amazons had forced her into. Her cheeks were already bright red, and she kept fidgeting with the hem of her outfit as if she could somehow make herself disappear.
"So..." Livia began, unsure of what to ask first. "How did you get here?"
"By walking." Shin smiled, clearly enjoying the surprise on her face.
"Walking...?"
"But that’s not the most important matter right now. As you’ve probably noticed, the Amazons are now obeying me, which means you’re safe."
Livia blinked before listening as Shin briefly explained what had happened. He lied, saying that for some reason even he didn’t understand, the Amazons had come to believe he was their god.
He also told her that he had awakened in this dimension within the succubus kingdom, and that the succubi were now helping him.
"There are two things I’d like to ask of you," Shin finally concluded. "First, I need you to work on the portal so we can return to our dimension. Second, I’d like your help developing this village."
Livia blinked again, slightly confused.
She could understand why Shin wanted her to work on finding a way back to their dimension. That was only logical. But why was he so interested in developing the village?
Could he already be...
"Are you planning on living here in the worst-case scenario?"
"No." Shin chuckled. "I only want to help them."
It was a small lie.
"Besides, I’m sure that once the Amazon village becomes more prosperous, it’ll be much easier to search the surrounding area for the remains of the portal and other interesting things for research."
Livia was conflicted by the proposal. On one hand, she would love the opportunity to study this place even further. On the other, she quickly understood that Shin’s plan was more or less a long-term project, which meant she would have to stay here for quite some time.
Developing an entire civilization just so they could later help you with your research was, by definition, taking the long way around to achieve an objective.
"How many years do you plan on staying here?"
"Only one," Shin answered simply.
He couldn’t explain it to Livia right now, but one year was their absolute time limit, no matter what happened.
"I’ve only been with them for a very short time, but I believe in how eager the Amazons are. I’m sure they can accomplish things much faster than you expect."
Livia wasn’t buying Shin’s plan in the slightest. Still, opposing him was never even a possibility that crossed her mind. Right now, he controlled both the succubi and the Amazons. Going against him would be practically the same as choosing death.
Besides, helping him would give her plenty of opportunities to continue her research.
"And..." Livia hesitated, her cheeks becoming slightly red again. "Would you want anything else from me?"
She had heard the way the Amazons talked about their god. She had even seen how they constantly pressed themselves against Shin whenever they got the chance, acting like overly excited teenagers around their first crush.
"No." Shin reassured her.
For some reason, a tiny part of Livia felt strangely disappointed by that answer.
"Right now, I actually have my plate full..." Shin admitted. "Anyway, we should get to work soon."
He also wanted to know what Livia had already discovered, and as expected, her findings were quite interesting. More than that, she had demonstrated an impressive intuition despite having only limited information to work with.
"One more thing. When we go back, don’t publish everything immediately," Shin said firmly. "And I don’t mean that as an order. Think of it as life advice. People won’t believe you. So make sure you gather plenty of evidence before revealing everything, and be patient."
"Wait for what?" Livia pressed.
"For the right moment. You’ll know when it comes." Shin smiled confidently and began to stand.
"Now, it’s time for me to start issuing some real orders. Please come with me. You’ve been living here for a while, so I want you to start listing everything you think needs improvement."
"While I walk?"
"Yes." Shin chuckled. "But you’ll have plenty of time later too, so don’t worry too much. From now on, you’re going to have a lot of work to do if we want to make this place more functional."
He paused.
"Besides, I’ll need to give a speech before we do anything else, so that’ll give you some extra time to think."
Livia nodded, though she couldn’t help feeling a little anxious about the whole thing. She had a feeling that she had just been given an enormous amount of work.
Soon, Shin stood before the gathered Amazons, looking over them seriously. He knew the girls would be eager to obey his orders, but he needed to change their mentality so things would work even when he was not around.
"You are all warriors. You are strong, skilled, and willing to fight. But being a warrior is about more than winning a sparring match."
The Amazons listened carefully.
"Real wars aren’t won by brute strength alone. They are won with strategy, preparation, roads, walls, supplies, information, and knowing when and where to fight."
He raised a finger.
"A strong fighter is useful. But so is the person who builds the wall that protects her. The person who plans the battle. The person who makes sure everyone has food. The person who scouts the enemy."
He paused.
"You already have different kinds of warriors. Spearmen, swordswomen, archers, bare-handed fighters... From now on, however, your warrior ranks will take more than combat into account."
Murmurs spread through the crowd.
"I will introduce a point system. Fighting will earn you points, but so will building, planning, scouting, crafting, organizing, and anything else that helps us win a war."
Shin’s expression became firm.
"I want every one of you to give your best. Don’t think that being unable to fight makes you useless. If you can build, build. If you can think, think. If you can fight, fight."
