His black sword struck the spearhead dead-on. The magical weapon shattered instantly, fragments of violet energy scattering through the arena.

But Sara was already moving. She charged through the fading sparks, using the destroyed spear as a distraction. Shin barely had time to raise his sword before she was upon him.

He blocked her first strike, and the second. On the third exchange, Shin saw an opening, and moved on instinct. He stepped inside her guard and struck her firmly across the side.

Sara staggered back, as her blood painted the destroyed wooden floor. It had been an obvious clean hit.

However, before Shin could celebrate his victory, a sharp pain coursed through his body. Just at that instant, he noticed something: his left shoulder had been cut, probably by Sara’s last attack.

Which of them had landed the hit first? It was impossible to say, especially without any judge to watch their duel.

Shin took a long breath, the wound closing naturally as it was not all that big. Sara had been hurt more, but she was the queen of the Amazons, and her body could regenerate quickly.

So, should they call it a draw?

"I believe I won," Shin said, trying not to allow things to escalate any further. But it was hard to ignore the adrenaline coursing through his body.

"Maybe, but tell me, my god, are you satisfied with ending things like that?" Sara asked, her body burning even more.

Neither of the two warriors, so lost in their bodies, noticed, but a magical circle appeared beneath their feet.

"Let’s decide it with our fists!" Sara said, growling.

"So be it," Shin agreed, smiling.

And neither of them even noticed as a robotic voice announced:

"The conditions have been met; the first trial of the Demon King candidate must begin."
