Once again, Shin was reading through reports from both the Succubus Kingdom and the Amazons. But, just as he had expected, everything was going smoothly, and both groups were well organized.

Besides, Carolina’s addition as an ally and subordinate had significantly increased the amount of money, goods, and even food flowing into his hands.

The only thing that hadn’t gone according to plan was that Livia had barely had any opportunities to actually study or conduct research inside the Lost Dimension. Shin was interested in what she might discover, but he wasn’t particularly optimistic. Most likely, whatever she found would be something he already knew from the game. And, in the end, she was far more useful working in an office from morning to night.

With that thought, Shin set the reports down on his desk.

His time inside the Lost Dimension was also nearing its end. He had just finished reading the last page when a familiar presence suddenly appeared.

"I’m back!"

Lilel materialized in the room, her tiny fiery body bursting into existence beside him.

After spending so long without a physical form, she immediately stretched herself from head to toe. Her little arms and legs extended as far as they could, while her tiny body seemed to wobble and flutter like a living flame.

She spun around excitedly, flying in a few erratic circles around Shin as though simply being able to move through the physical world again was the greatest joy imaginable.

"I’m finally back!" she shouted again, happily flying around Shin.

"I see that you are excited," Shin commented, as she came to land on his shoulder.

"You have no idea how great it is to be back. Not having a physical form is like lying down for me; it is comfortable, but spending so much time without being able to move, or see anything real, is just the worst."

Shin smiled, telling the tiny girl she could enjoy a bit of free time, and even offered to go out with her, so she could see the forest, sun and other people again.

But Lilel refused; just spinning around had been enough for her, and she had more important matters in mind.

"So, about my research, I got mixed results," she admitted.

Even after all this time, Lilel’s understanding of the Trial’s rune was still somewhat limited. More specifically, she was having trouble figuring out how it actually worked.

"I think I understand its general effects, and I could probably even turn the rune on and off, but that’s different from truly understanding it."

"Wait, you can turn it on and off?"

"Probably. I’d need a few hours to figure it out. But it wouldn’t recreate the Trial. It would only force the people within a small area into a deep state of rage."

Shin fell silent, thinking about that for a moment. Anger generally led to chaos, so this was a power he would need to use carefully. Still, it could be extremely useful.

"And do you think powerful people could resist it?"

"I wouldn’t want to make a powerful enemy even angrier," Lilel said jokingly. "But I don’t think they could. At least, not through their own strength."

The little fairy floated in front of Shin and began waving her tiny hands as she tried to explain.

"The rune doesn’t work on the same system as me or our skills, and because it works so differently, I don’t think my normal mind resistance skill would have any effect."

"Are you sure?"

"Not entirely. I think it’s like two different languages. Both systems are based on mana, of course, but it’s like your skills can’t even communicate with whatever demonic shit this rune is based on," Lilel said, making Shin’s rune glow.

"So there is one human core system, and probably one demonic core system?" Shin asked, as a few gears began turning in his head.

One of the most important aspects of how the Tower worked was that it had its own rules, and those rules were connected to everyone’s system.

In a way, everyone inside the Tower had powers that ultimately depended on the same source and followed the same fundamental rules.

The battle and territory rules on the floors were one example of this. But the strangest part was that the Imperial Queen could actually change those rules.

In the game, you never learned exactly how she did it, why changing the rules took so long, or even what those rules actually were.

"I think so," Lilel said. "I was thinking the same thing. The systems were probably created and programmed by someone. Most likely, they were designed to convert the mana in this world into usable powers."

She raised two fingers.

"And if that’s true, then it was probably done twice, or something like that. I have no idea if the demonic core system was as advanced as the human one. As complex as the trial rune is, even things like Eva’s queen system were more complex than that."

Shin nodded, thinking about it. He already knew from the game that humans and demons had once fought a great war. More specifically, humans from another world had fought demons from another world.

The demons were eventually defeated, while the few surviving humans created the Tower and used it to travel to another world.

The game never went into much detail about what had happened to their original world. But considering the scale of the war, Shin could only assume that it had been rendered uninhabitable, or at least so devastated that the survivors had no choice but to abandon it.

And if Lilel’s theory was correct, then the two different power systems might have been a remnant of that ancient conflict.

"But if one can’t really affect the other, how would they fight against each other?"

"I don’t know," Lilel shrugged. "I need more examples to understand it better. But in retrospect, I can say the reason I suffered so much with the Amazons’ runes, compared to Lara, is that the Amazons have a rune based on this demonic core system."

"Makes sense," Shin nodded.

"And more importantly, if a system can convert mana into a skill, then it is not the one giving you power; it is just a facilitator."

"What?" Shin asked, confused.

"That," Lilel said, as fire paper materialized in her hands. "I’m just beginning to learn, but if I personally make all the calculations, I can also directly convert the mana in the air and inside of you into a new phenomenon. Even though, for now, I can only make fire."
