Harem System In A fantasy World

Chapter 541: Elion vs Mayumi | II

Mayumi watched him carefully.

"You are still not going to use magic?"

’She knows that as well... She probably spent the past week investigating her opponent - how diligent.’

"I will."

"When?"

Elion’s mismatched eyes brightened.

"When you give me a reason to."

Mayumi disappeared again.

This time, even Marilyn struggled to follow her movement clearly.

Boom!

A deafening explosion tore through the arena as Mayumi appeared directly in front of Elion, her sword thrusting towards the centre of his chest.

Elion moved sideways.

The tip passed beside his clothes by less than an inch.

Mayumi immediately rotated the blade and slashed upwards.

Elion blocked it, but the force behind the attack finally pushed him several steps backwards.

She followed without giving him time to recover.

Her attacks became faster with every exchange, forcing Elion to move across the arena as steel clashed against steel dozens of times within only a few seconds.

The audience could no longer follow their weapons.

They could only see flashes of silver light and hear the thunderous collisions filling the hall.

Mayumi pressed forwards relentlessly.

Elion continued blocking, redirecting, and evading, but he still had not launched a single proper counter-attack.

Her frustration gradually became visible.

"Fight back!"

Elion parried another slash.

"I am fighting."

"You are only defending."

"Hey... I’m just studying the pattern of your attacks and movements."

Mayumi’s expression turned cold.

"So you are underestimating me."

"No."

Elion caught her next strike against the flat of his blade. Their faces were only a short distance apart, peering into each other’s eyes.

"Just following Marilyn’s instructions, and making sure I don’t inflict any terrible wounds."

Mayumi’s eyes widened before anger flashed through them.

She pulled her sword back and released every bit of strength contained within her body.

"Then stop holding back!"

Her blade descended.

Elion’s golden eye flashed.

The borrowed sword rose to meet it.

The moment the weapons collided, a deafening explosion erupted across the arena.

The barrier trembled violently.

Mayumi felt an overwhelming force travel through her sword and into her arms.

Her fingers went numb.

Before she could react, Elion twisted his wrist and her blade was thrown aside.

The point of his borrowed sword stopped directly against her throat.

Everything became silent.

Mayumi froze.

Elion stood before her, his posture still relaxed, while the damaged steel blade rested less than an inch from her skin.

He had disarmed her with a single movement.

Marilyn stared at them for several seconds, visibly surprised by how abruptly the exchange had ended.

She was about to raise her hand to call the match.

"Vict..."

"Not yet," Mayumi said.

Elion’s brow rose.

Her empty hand closed around the blade resting against her throat. Blood immediately appeared between her fingers as she pushed it aside.

Before Elion could withdraw the weapon, Mayumi stepped inside his reach and drove her fist towards his chest.

The strike landed with a dull boom.

A powerful wave of force travelled through Elion’s body, causing his clothes to flutter as the stone beneath his feet fractured.

Mayumi winced; she felt like her fist had struck an indomitable wall; his body was incredibly solid, like a block of metal.

However, Elion let the force of the strike push him backwards to create some distance between them, and he slid backwards several metres, leaving two shallow trails across the arena floor before finally coming to a stop.

Excited cries erupted from the crowd.

Mayumi did not waste the opportunity.

She tossed Elion’s sword aside, ignoring the blood dripping from her bandaged palm as she rushed forwards once more.

Elion raised a brow.

Even after being disarmed and having a blade placed against her throat, she had not hesitated for a single moment.

There had been no panic in her eyes, only the immediate recognition that the duel had not officially ended yet.

She had willingly grabbed the sword and injured herself just to create another opportunity to attack.

’She really does not know how to give up.’

Mayumi appeared before him and unleashed a vicious kick towards his ribs.

Elion lifted one arm to block.

The impact produced another violent shock wave, but before he could catch her leg, Mayumi rotated her body and struck at his head with her other foot.

He leaned backwards, allowing her heel to pass above his nose.

Mayumi planted one hand against the ground, using it to support herself as both legs began striking towards him in a rapid, spinning barrage.

Elion stepped around the attacks, avoiding each one by the smallest possible distance.

Mayumi twisted upright and immediately drove her elbow towards his throat.

He caught her arm.

Her other fist shot towards his abdomen.

Elion caught that one as well.

For a moment, they stood with both her wrists trapped within his hands.

Mayumi’s knee rose sharply between them.

Elion shifted his hip aside before the strike could reach his precious jewels.

"That was rather vicious," he commented while trying to stop his brow from twitching.

"This is a duel; seeing as I’m at a major disadvantage, anything goes."

"You nearly ended my bloodline."

Mayumi pulled against his grip, but Elion’s hands did not move. She could feel the difference in their raw strength now.

Even with her reinforcement technique pushed close to its limit, his grip remained completely immovable.

It was like trying to free herself from the jaws of a colossal beast.

Mayumi suddenly relaxed her arms.

The unexpected change caused Elion’s attention to sharpen.

She stepped closer instead of trying to pull away, twisted one of her wrists within his grip, and used his own hands as support to launch herself upwards.

Her forehead struck his chin.

Boom!

A loud crack echoed across the platform.

Several spectators winced.

Elion’s head tilted slightly backwards.

Mayumi landed and immediately swept one leg towards his ankles.

He released her wrists and jumped over the attack, but she followed him into the air, driving a palm towards the centre of his chest.

Elion caught her wrist once again.

Mayumi’s eyes narrowed.

Her mana suddenly changed direction.

Instead of continuing to reinforce her body evenly, nearly all of it rushed into the arm Elion was holding.

"Bursting Palm."

The condensed mana erupted from her hand.

A concentrated blast struck Elion’s chest from point-blank range, throwing him backwards through the air.

He twisted before landing and slid several metres across the stone.

A stunned silence spread around the arena.

Even Marilyn looked surprised.

Zenovia’s brows rose.

"She managed to throw him."

Mira smiled faintly.

"He is still barely trying."

Yaana leaned forwards eagerly.

"But she is doing much better than everyone expected."

Zenith nodded with genuine approval.

"She is stubborn. Makes it difficult not to like her."

Mayumi remained where she was, breathing more heavily than before.

Even though she could not cast any elemental spells, she could still release bursts of mana to mimic some spells.

However, the technique consumed a considerable amount of mana, so she usually avoided using it; her mana was better spent on efficiently augmenting her boy, unfortunately, that was proving ineffective.

The whole time, her eyes never left Elion even as she caught her breath.

He looked down at the centre of his chest. The cloth had been slightly scorched, though his skin beneath it remained unharmed.
