With that taken care of, Elion slipped out of the hall. The cool night air immediately brushed against his face.

He took a deep breath.

After spending so much time surrounded by people, the quiet outside was refreshing.

The clan’s territory stretched beneath the moonlight, with several paved paths leading between the various structures.

Mana lanterns illuminated the roads, while the distant sounds of music and celebration drifted faintly from the ceremonial hall behind him.

Elion walked a little farther from the building, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

Then he noticed someone.

Isla.

She stood near one of the paved entrances, slightly separated from the main gathering.

Her long blonde hair whipped about gently in the night breeze as she gazed toward the sky, her expression as aloof and distant as ever.

Elion slowed.

He had spent plenty of time with Isla recently, but even so, there were moments when she seemed almost detached from everything around her.

As though her thoughts were somewhere far beyond the world everyone else inhabited.

Elion smiled faintly.

He approached her from behind.

"What are you looking at?" he asked.

She was a little startled by his sudden appearance, but the moment she realized who it was, a gentle smile appeared on her face.

"Elion."

She turned around to face him before pulling him into a light hug.

Elion smiled gently and placed one hand on her head, his other arm wrapping around her waist.

"Thinking about home?" he asked lightly.

Isla remained silent for a few moments, then she nodded against his chest.

"Un..." Her voice was quiet. "I thought it would get easier with time, but being here, seeing Tessa with her family has reminded me of home again."

Elion’s expression softened.

Maybe she had seen glimpses of her father’s own traits in Paul Crimson, hence the sudden homesickness.

He pulled her a little closer and slowly stroked her head, letting his fingers run gently through her hair.

"I suppose that makes sense."

Isla remained nestled against him, listening to his powerful heartbeat.

"Back home, everything was familiar," she murmured. "The people, the places... even the annoying things."

A faint smile touched her lips.

"Here, everything feels different, even though they were supposed to be the same world. Maybe the passage of time brought about these changes and differences."

Elion continued stroking her hair.

"Do you think you would ever want to go back?"

Isla was silent again.

After a few moments, she shook her head.

"No."

She tightened her arms around him.

"I miss it, but..." She hesitated. "I don’t want to leave you."

Elion’s smile became warmer.

"Then you don’t have to."

Isla slowly looked up at him.

"Really?"

"Really."

He gently tapped her forehead with a finger.

"If you ever want to visit your home, we have to confirm if it’s even possible first, and then we’ll go together. And if you don’t want to go back, that’s fine too."

Isla let out a quiet laugh.

"You make everything sound so simple."

"That’s because most things are simple when you have enough power."

She stared at him for a moment, then she smiled.

"You’re getting arrogant."

"I’ve always been arrogant."

"That’s true."

Elion chuckled.

For a while, neither of them said anything.

They simply stood there beneath the moonlight, holding each other while the faint sounds of celebration continued drifting from the hall behind them.

Eventually, Isla rested her head against his chest again.

"Thank you."

Elion lowered his gaze.

"For what?"

"For making this place feel a little more like home." Elion’s beautiful eyes seemed to sparkle beneath the moonlight.

For a moment, neither of them said anything.

They simply looked at one another. Then Isla slowly pursed her lips and rose onto the tips of her toes.

Elion understood immediately.

He leaned down, closing the small distance between them.

Their lips met in a soft kiss.

Her lips were wet, soft, and quite cold, for some odd reason.

Isla’s hands tightened slightly around the front of his clothes while Elion’s arm remained securely around her waist, holding her close as the world around them seemed to fade away.

The distant sounds of celebration became little more than a murmur.

For those few moments, there was only the quiet night, the soft glow of the lanterns, and the warmth they shared.

When they finally pulled apart, Isla’s cheeks were faintly flushed.

She looked away for a second, suddenly finding the stone path beneath her feet very interesting.

Elion smiled.

"Feeling a little better?"

Isla glanced back at him, as a small smile appeared on her face.

"Much better."

Elion chuckled softly and pulled her into another embrace.

This time, Isla didn’t say anything.

She simply rested against him again, and together they stood beneath the moonlight while the celebration continued behind them.

...

When Elion walked back into the ceremonial hall, he found Tessa waiting for him near the main entrance, her arms crossed over mounds and a faintly impatient expression on her face.

Mira stood beside her.

The moment Elion approached, Mira seemed to catch the hint. A playful smile appeared on her face.

She winked at Tessa before walking toward Elion and giving him a light, teasing pat on the shoulder.

"Have fun, you two."

With that, she casually walked away, leaving Elion staring after her.

"Ready?" Elion looked back toward Tessa, who was trying very hard to maintain a brave front.

"O-of course," she replied. "I’ve heard many great things about your capabilities." She made air quotes around the last few words.

"From Mira and Zenith. So don’t disappoint me, Mister Husband."

Elion laughed.

"Oh, this is going to be fun." He reached out and took her hand, pulling her gently closer.

"Just don’t start begging for mercy once we get started."

Tessa’s face flushed.

"Who said anything about begging for mercy?"

"You will."

"Confident, aren’t you?"

"Very."

She rolled her eyes.

"So, where are we going to partake in this little adventure?" Elion asked.

Tessa hesitated for a moment before glancing toward the corridors leading deeper into the clan’s residence.

"Let’s head to my private residence. We won’t be interrupted there."

Elion’s eyes lit up immediately.

"Yes, ma’am!"

Tessa couldn’t help laughing at his sudden enthusiasm.

"You really are looking forward to this, aren’t you?"

"Of course." Elion squeezed her hand as they began walking.
