“Nobody. Make. A sound.”

Aidan whispered his last words before the Dweller Prime got way too close for comfort, even though they were several meters apart at this point.

The Dweller Prime raised its head, its flat nose sniffing the air profusely as if trying to pry the oxygen straight out of the air. It made a ramping up sound that drove a shiver down Aidan’s spine, but he clamped it down tight with his iron will.

The reason why they weren’t being mutilated into pieces like it did with the Red Riot was simple–before it could even arrive in the room, he blasted his party with Vanish and made them disappear from sight.

He made this gamble purely out of instinct. He didn’t know whether the Prime Dweller was the sort to rely mostly on its outer senses or perhaps it might carry some hidden skill that allowed it to spot prey at a glance. The fact that the damn thing chased them to this point made that pretty obvious.

Yet his gamble seemed to have a high chance of succeeding as the Dweller Prime, where it had once roared with outright rage and violence, now seemed perplexed, as if it lost its vision.

Despite their invisibility, Aidan noticed how Van and Haley were frozen in place, keeping to his word on staying silent. His spell only worked on obscuring their appearance, but not any noises they might make. Now he feared that their smell might attract its attention, but it was already too late to do anything now.

Which meant only one thing–he had to act now before it found them. If he could deal enough damage to it, they might stand a chance against its onslaught and magical terror.

But its tough skin and muscles made it clear that it couldn’t be just any simple attack. He knew just crafting something with the stone around him was impossible as well, seeing as how the walls were completely made of some alloy he didn’t understand.

So his best spell was out of the picture for now. He could maybe make it up by using the materials from his bag, but that required too much thought to process, and doing that during combat seemed incredibly futile.

But he did have one spell that might work against it. A single damaging spell that saved him once in his time of crisis.

But the difference in levels is what stopped him from going further. He knew that targeting the creature itself would only make it angry, not hurt. And that was the last thing he wanted to do.

But what if he looked at it from another angle? Sure, the will contained within the powerful creature was staggeringly high, but he didn’t have to Rend the entire creature apart.

What if he only focused on one singular part? Enough that it would give them the edge they need to survive?

I have to do something, and it has to be now.

The Dweller Prime approached the group little by little, sweeping its large head left and right. It seemed sure of itself, trying to prove that its instincts were correct from the way it kept searching for its prey.

One way or another, it would find them. If that’s the case, then Aidan would gladly cheat to get his advantage. He wasn’t fighting on his own. Lives were on the line, and he refused to lose a single one of them today. He wanted to sleep peacefully at night if he could.

He raised his hand, and willed his mana to activate. He didn’t know whether this kind of method could work on another spell, but it was worth a try. He also tried something else on top of that. Using Multicast, he tried to activate both spells at once, delaying them from activating.

First he conjured up the image of the Rend Spell in his head, keeping it aloft in his hand and letting it hang there. He kept forming the Rend Spell and let it grow, unleashing his Magic Boost onto it.

He felt the spell grow denser, all the while Vanish continued to suppress its glow from forming. He felt his hand being pressured at all sides, feeling the spell’s integral balance beginning to shift uncomfortably. But he wasn’t done yet.

He cast Infuse onto his Rend spell, pouring more mana into it. Unlike with Magic Boost, which generally boost his spell’s power, Infuse imparts mana in a different manner. This time, he put his own spirituality into the spell, giving it that special oomph it never had before.

The pressure started to build up, and he felt his hand quiver under its weight. The balance within was starting to turn chaotic, like a jenga tower ready to collapse from so many pieces being out of formation. It was the first time he ever used three spells at once, giving his Multicast a much needed burn before the notification hit him.

Skill Upgraded! Multicast (Bronze) became Multicast (Iron)!

While he was glad for the improvement, he didn’t have time to celebrate as he felt his spell becoming unfit too unstable to control. It was a messed up bomb made hastily with dangerous ingredients, and he was holding it right in his hand.

The Dweller Prime was getting closer. Its rampant sniffing became slower and its throat growled like a running engine. It curled its lips into a snarl, unleashed a roar, then pounced straight at the invisible party. It found them.

Aidan shot his empowered spell right at it, unleashing the devastating power fueled with over half of his mana’s worth.

The spell flew, and hit it right at its outstretched arm. The process was completely invisible, but he felt it latch onto the arm and begin its terrible cycle.

The arm, decorated with bulging muscle and coiled veins like thick cables, twisted out of shape, sounds of bone and flesh tearing itself apart as the entire arm was torn right off its shoulder. Blood flowed like water and the beast roared in pain, its other arm hanging over the stump that was left behind.

The giant desecrated arm fell loosely on the floor, creating a thump that nearly shook the entire floor from its massive weight. The beast stayed there, roaring in pain while Aidan let out a huge breath.

“No choice!” Van shouted. “I’m going in!”

Van ran in like a veteran. Unsheathing his magic sword, he charged at the downed creature. Haley on her side pulled out her bow and nocked the arrows they looted from the trap floor to shoot at it from a distance.

Meanwhile, Aidan pulled out the container from his own bag, opened the top and drank the Soul-Mending water with gusto. His head was aching from the amount of mana he spent on that Rend spell, but it quickly abated as the cooling water drenched his throat and flowed down into his stomach, revitalizing his tired MP pool to recharge completely.

He wiped the liquid off of his lips as the Dweller Prime made its move. Despite missing an entire arm, it still swung its remaining arm high and slammed it into the ground, the gravity magic making its work as the entire floor caved and spider-webbed across.

Van managed to jump to the side, already taking advantage of the simplistic motion, and slashed upward across its mid-section. He kept hemming it to the side, spinning only to where he was facing the side with the stump. While the Dweller Prime was fast, Van was quicker thanks to his smaller size and quick reflexes.

All the while, arrows were constantly hitting their target, Haley keeping it close while aiming for any visible parts she could hit. Each time, the arrows were repelled from the force emitted by the swing of the Prime’s hand, but perhaps one-third of the arrows managed to puncture through its thick hide.

They were keeping it well distracted, giving Aidan enough time to do his next step. Granted, he hadn’t put much thought into it, and doing another Rend would be dangerous since both Van and the Prime were going at each other too closely for his liking.

So instead he was going to try another new way of fighting, different from using his sword and using the stone around him. His hand swerved, picking up the remnants of harmony coated to the very thing he was used to having around since the beginning–the air itself.

Thanks to Craft upgrading in rank, he had a feeling that he’s finally able to go up a notch with his control over the element. Air has no substance, and normally they shouldn’t have any type of will, yet it was still amazingly difficult to alter and change.

But with it being the only thing he could control around him, he had to act. Van was knocked to the side, a round barrier made of blue mana encircling him and protecting him from most of the damage caused by a rampant arm swing of the Prime. Despite the protection, blood leaked out from the corner of Van’s mouth, the arm holding the buckler losing its grip slightly, and causing the barrier around him to waver.

“Van! Get out of there!”

Haley called, but that was a mistake. The Prime roared and slammed the ground before launching itself up into the air, aiming its incredible might straight at the annoying archer that kept shooting arrows. Her eyes widened in response while Van rushed to protect her, too slow to get to her side in time.

Aidan screamed, forcing the air around Haley to congeal and harden. The Prime crashed, but not at its intended target.

A wave of pressurized force ensued from up above Haley, looking up in surprise at the sudden floating monstrous ape. Even the Prime looked confused, along with Van who watched with a slacked jaw. Aidan forcefully swept his hand across, and the air followed his will as the Dweller Prime flew across the expanse and crashed into the nearby wall.

Dust scattered and settled down, revealing the now pissed off Prime, roaring at whoever messed with its landing. In response, Van rushed after it, unleashing a magic wave from his sword to slice across the Prime’s body now that it was staying in place.

The Dweller Prime raised its arm to protect itself from the blast of magic, then charged at Van with relentless assault. Aidan commanded the air to keep it still, constantly blowing on the beast with enough force to be categorized as a strong gale.

The beast roared, constantly swinging its arm and using its gravity magic to push away at the currents, but there was a lot of it pushing it back. All the while, Van took this as a sign to slash out as many arcs as his short mana pool can provide, with Haley following suit with shooting arrows.

Damn it, it’s not enough. We need more firepower!

The beast was too enthusiastic about bringing down its prey, and it showed from the way it made a mess in the central room. If they weren’t careful, they could destroy the pillar at the center, disbarring them from ever entering into the treasure repository again, and he had a feeling Nina wouldn’t like that.

So he tried a different tactic. Rather than just pushing the creature down, he’ll gather up all the air in the room into one big blast. But he had to be careful of how much air he could take, lest he suffocate them along the way. That might also affect the beast, but there was no point in risking that much against this fight.

He slowly gathered the particles of the air right above the beast. That caused the Dweller Prime to be free from its pressure and launch an all-out attack against the closest fighter around it. Van took a lot of hits, but he was adamant in keeping its attention while avoiding the one arm.

Tearing apart its arm was the correct choice as the attack patterns of the Prime became simple to follow. Even Haley accosted it with dozens of arrows with ease, using the enchantment on the bow to throw a doozie of a magic arrow straight at it to disrupt its attacks.

The air gathered enough above them, becoming almost visual from the way the wind continuously gathered there, creating a sort of ball that hung above.

Van screamed when the Prime Dweller managed to hit him straight, the barrier that protected him cracking and splitting apart before the bloody Van flung out. He looked like a bloody rag as he crumpled to the ground, Haley immediately running towards him for aid.

The Dweller Prime slammed its hand to give itself a boosts up, launching itself straight towards the pair that just so happened to be gathered at a perfect spot for it to tear them apart. But it also just so happened to fly right towards the near-invisible ball of compressed air.

He launched the gathered spell, making it shoot at a pin-point straight at its head. A powerful sound that popped his eardrums resonated in the air, followed by a strong wave that cratered the stone in a circular range. In an instant, it created a large basketball sized hole straight through its face.

The Dweller Prime just hung loosely in the air before it fell to the ground, cratering the stone floor. The room turned entirely silent, though that might be due to his own damaged ears as Aidan felt something drip from them, turning out to be blood.

He ignored the rest of the notifications, knowing already what it might be as he had other priorities to attend to. He moved towards the siblings, Van still bleeding on the ground while Haley covered her ears and crying out in pain. At least he thought she was crying out, considering that they were quite close to the air shot that drove their ears to pop.

While his mana was lagging, he gladly healed Van first, recovering his wounds with Heal, following up with Haley afterwards. Then, he healed his own ears, which became the first time he ever healed himself with his own spell. He felt the mana enter through his body and head directly towards the damaged parts of his soul, restoring them back to how they once were. Sound immediately squeezed through, a terrifying experience that left him grimacing in discomfort.

“Ugh… I did not expect it to be that loud,” Aidan admitted, rubbing his ears but was only making it worse, so he left it be.

“W-What was that attack?” Haley asked, then turning her attention to Van and helped to lift him up. “Hey, are you okay?”

“A condensed ball of air that was shot all at once,” Aidan helped explain, patting Van on the back as he groaned back into consciousness. “He’s fine. Just healed up the worst injuries.”

“Thanks…” Van moaned. “Why do my ears hurt so much?”

“Aidan made the air go boom,” Haley simply explained, which was probably better to explain than anything else.

“Go figure,” Van said unimpressed, shaking his head. “Whoa, I leveled up like crazy!”

Seeing his expression ease into a giddy smile, so similar to his own sister’s, Aidan was glad that every one of them survived the encounter.
