After spending thirty minutes repairing the torn muscles and ligaments that he only just recognized from casting Heal, he came to understood the reason why he failed in creating a proper buff.
Unlike a buff that would be gained naturally from either proper study or from his Class, there were no guardrails to protect him from the damage inflicted on him from his own special magic. Thankfully, since learning Heal, he was able to keep a sense of calm he hadn’t expected to have despite receiving a heavy injury that would’ve crippled him in the old world.
It was probably because once he realigned his soul to his natural physical state correctly, which was easy thanks to his Sense Vibrations, his arm recovered quite nicely and was working in proper order. That gave him the confidence to try using that method again.
This was proof that he was heading in the right direction, or at least had improved a spell that had limitless potential in a way that would benefit him. He realized that with his mana, he could improve a part of his soul to give him a massive boost depending on how much mana he could spend, but he had to be careful on balancing exactly how much mana he could spend into his physical body.
Because in the end, he was pouring foreign energy into his body which hadn’t received any mana before outside of controlled enchantments like his equipment. It was easy for him to gain points in Intellect and Perception thanks to his Arcane Ring, because the ring could withstand the enchantment thanks to its specially made material.
His body, on the other hand, was just flesh and bone, not metal or a specific alloy. It made sense that suddenly gaining 20 Might would destroy his muscles and tear off his flesh without some proper readjustments.
The thing was, he needed to know exactly how many adjustments he needed to make. He knew now that his body couldn’t handle more than 20 Might outright. So he tried to cast Infuse on himself, but this time, rather than pouring his mana all across his body randomly, he tried to specifically send mana into parts of his body that he could use.
In this case, he tried to send mana specifically into his muscles, ligaments, nerves, and joints as carefully as he could. It was possible that when he poured mana randomly, it only strengthened one part of the body and ignored everything else. He definitely felt the increase in power as he did so, feeling his body filling with energy.
He spent a lot more mana than before, around 150 mana, which was almost half of his mana pool, but he finally felt his body receive the appropriate amount of energy necessary. Once he finished casting, he slowly stood up and checked his stats before doing anything else.
This time, his Might only increased by around 10 points. However, his Toughness, Endurance, and Vigor also increased by the same amount. He wondered how that only increasedthe overall physical power of his body rather than the speed or even his health pool, but for now he was satisfied with this little experiment.
Putting his status down, he put himself into a small stance, his arms raised and his hands gripped into fists. Like before, he let out a punch which let out a sharp burst of air. To his surprise, it let out the same amount of pressurized air as before, even though his Might was 10 points weaker than before.
Even more importantly, his arm was completely fine, no torn muscle or broken joint in sight. He kept punching the air, surprised and giddy at the amount of power he wielded. He cast a lot of mana to get this, but he knew it was due to inexperience in pouring mana onto his body. If he practiced this a lot more, he could receive the same amount of stat points while spending less and less mana.
Perhaps he could even grant himself special powers with Infuse, like how he could enchant the equipment, but that was far beyond his level. He might have to read some books about this matter, but the library didn’t carry anything remotely close to magic theory.
Maybe there’s a magic academy or something in this world.
He wouldn’t be surprised if there was one. From what he read, people could still learn how to cast spells even if they aren’t Mages. Him being capable of casting spells thanks to his talent was one such reason, so it was possible there was a whole learning facility to do exactly that, but clearly with a hefty tuition.
Putting aside his future of being a powerful wizard, he first tested how long his magic could last, so he did some plain exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, to see how long it can last under pressure.
Around half an hour later, he felt his body lagging and becoming exhausted, even though he hadn’t really pushed himself that much during his light exercise. Seeing his status proved that his buff was gone, leaving his body weaker than before.
I’m definitely gonna have to keep a look out on that. It’s gonna mess me up real bad if this happened in the middle of combat.
His mana returned slightly thanks to Channel Mana, which was probably a good way to increase the rank without relying on the Soul-Mending Water. Not that he needed to worry about running out anytime soon; he would prefer to have a reliable source of mana regeneration as drinking from the container during battle might be dangerous.
He could remember hundreds of times in video games where he found himself dying or getting carted and sent back to camp while he was drinking a potion by a sudden boss attack that came straight out of nowhere. It might be due to some devilish developer’s sadism in part, but he couldn’t blame some developer for making that kind of mistake in the real world.
Once his mana bar was full, he kept practicing on pouring his mana onto his body. This time, he tried to change how he poured his mana. Rather than just pouring it onto his body, like drenching himself in water, he imagined coating his body in a sticky substance, the mana sticking right into his pores and injecting itself straight into specific parts of the body.
It took a lot more mental control than he expected, but it was possible as he felt his mana dropping considerably less while still retaining that same sense of power. When he saw that his stats increased up to 7 rather than 10, he thought he had failed. But after trying to do some physical activities like before, he found that it lasted for more than 30 minutes, this time reaching a full hour.
As the sun kept crawling across the sky, he kept practicing his Infuse spell over and over, fine-tuning specific points and re-imagining the method of how to apply it.
At the end of the day, he realized his final method of applying Infuse. Rather than pouring power straight onto his body, or injecting that power into parts of the body, he decided to go deeper than that. Straight into his very cells.
It was definitely difficult, but he did so by using Sense Vibrations to scan deeper and deeper into his own body than he ever tried before. He sensed the very vibrations of his cells, each one sending their own frequencies to each other, the vibrations reminding him of small musical notes following a rhythm that rang his ears in a pleasant way. That was how his natural body was, and his soul closely resembled the harmony his cells were providing.
This time, he poured Infuse on those cells, which connected everything throughout his entire body. The issue came from trying to pour his mana deeper than before, which forced him to concentrate far harder to compensate. This meant that trying to Infuse his cells would take more time than just outright pouring mana onto his body, but the result spoke for itself.
When he got up, it wasn’t just his physical stats that got boosted, but also his Speed, Reflex, and even Dexterity. His Lifeforce also increased, though it was half in comparison to the other physical stats.
He only focused on the cells contained within the lower body rather than those in the head, so it was possible that he could also boost his own Intelligence attribute if he focused hard enough. And after receiving this boost, it took around 30 minutes for the buff to wear out, which was a massive improvement compared to the very first time he buffed his stats.
Hours were spent on this practice, but he never felt more proud as he received another notification at the very end of the day.
Spell Upgraded! Infuse (Bronze) became Infuse (Iron)!
His head was full of plans on what to do with his newfound power as he returned home for the night.
…..
The next day came by quickly as he left the store in the hands of Haley who had no issues since he started. Van had returned the day before with some good news, getting quite a lot of gold from selling the Soul-Mending water to some desperate Mages and adventurers who quickly gathered around him when they heard the news of this precious tonic that could restore all of their mana in one go.
Of course, Van knew when to call it quits when some suspicious people started asking about where he got the tonic, giving them the slip by saying that a friend came by with some expensive herbs he owed the siblings to. Van didn’t want the adventurers to go behind his back and hound Haley who they suspected was the creator of the mana-restoring tonic. For now, Van would only sell the tonic at a certain schedule to make sure the greedy merchants and adventurers wouldn’t get any ideas about tackling this unknown source for themselves.
So Van and Haley were together managing the store, which was already starting to make a decent profit since Aidan would craft items each time he returned, allowing for more variety for the customers when they would come by to purchase. Since then, Aidan left for his own training with peace of mind, already buffed with Infuse to boost his stats.
This time, he felt his body reaching equilibrium now that he boosted most of his physical stats. The only ones left were his stats from his Intelligence attribute and Charisma, which was by far the least needed stat for combat. He did wonder if he could make himself more handsome by boosting Charisma instead, but he didn’t feel like experimenting with pouring magic onto his face or something.
While boosting his body was all well and good, it wouldn’t do anything in combat just by having a stronger body. He needed to actually learn how to fight if he planned on tackling that overwhelming disaster that would soon come after them.
So when he returned to the forest, a very peaceful place where he could just let loose with his magic without anyone prying on his business, he pulled out the Harmonious Shortsword and studied it closely.
It was genuinely useful, and now that he had a better understanding of Infuse, he realized that a small part of himself was still tagged onto the Shortsword. He could actually improve it, making that small part more refined and sophisticated compared to the first time he crafted the sword.
But that wasn’t all. This time he brought over his spatial bag and started pulling out the materials he still had when Nina brought them over for the store. Several shimmering gemstones filled with magical power spilled out along with monster parts like fangs and claws onto the ground.
Once he made his Craft orb, he put some of the items into it and immediately cast Magic Boost, Magic Focus, and Infuse into it, creating another sword outright, matching its appearance to his first shortsword.
However, there was a serrated edge compared to the flat and straight edge like his first sword, but despite this small difference, the description for the sword remained the same.
Harmonious Serrated Shortsword (Rare)
A serrated shortsword created through the talent of one special crafter that used outside means to craft the item. It contains a spiritual part of the owner, having a form of its own will within the blade. It can only be used by Aidan Munez, the original creator of the blade.
Requirements:
Can only be used by Aidan Munez
Satisfied, he kept making more shortswords that matched with his first, each one having their own peculiar differences such as having one blade thinner and another blade wider, and finally having a curved-edge sword.
That made five swords for him to use. But why on earth would he make five swords, one might ask?
“Duh.”
Aidan said with a grin as he lifted his hand and willed his five Harmonious swords to life. With each one carrying his mana signature, each one containing a bit of harmony he could control with his talent, all swords lifted up to the sky, each one moving equally with the other with his mind.
That’s right–he could command more weapons in the fight. That would definitely bring up his A-game when facing tougher monsters. Though at the same time, his mind became taxed with controlling five weapons at once.
Still, he pushed himself to keep doing it, eventually having one sword separate from the others to fly around on its own. Then, he kept up the practice by slowly integrating one sword after another doing their own task, one floating aimlessly around in a circle, another spinning by itself, the third twirling hilt over tip on one side, and the two making a short clash of blades to the side.
There were some… accidents that occurred, such as one of the fighting swords getting carried away and almost launched itself straight towards Aidan, nearly taking his head off. He was focused so hard on making the fight seem real that he ended up literally putting himself into the fight.
When he had to get away for his own safety, that caused all the swords to drop to the ground, having no will of their own. He sighed, though he knew for certain that his Multicast was the reason why he was even able to use all five swords at once in the first place.
“In other words, something to practice with.”
He had plenty of spells on hand, but with all his knowledge on games, movies, anime, and manga, he realized that he had a lot of potential with just even one of his spells. He already had some ideas in mind for using his newest spell Phase in combat, but that required a heavy dose of combat experience in the first place to even try it out.
For now, he needed to get comfortable using the tools he had on hand that would make him a terror on the battlefield. Sometimes casting magic from the side wasn’t enough, and he’d prefer not to have Van always carry the heavy burden of being a tank. If he controlled the swords as well as he could with using Craft, he could easily assist as a second physical fighter, and even as a third and fourth and fifth if he kept up with his work.
He needed to practice more. He needed to fully utilize his spells, skills, and abilities to their fullest. Then, he would focus on gaining levels and see what abilities he could choose as a Mage that would only strengthen his foundation. All his years of reading stories about self-empowerment were filling his head as he kept training his mind and body, using his magic as easily as breathing.
He had a lot of work to do, but he knew it would be worth it.
