Hello, Comrade. I'm Here to Marry You!

Chapter 197: She Bravely Admits Her Mistake

The voice was clear and bright, sounding like it belonged to a cheerful young man.

The next moment, a tan face appeared before her.

The boy looked to be in his early twenties. He had short hair, thick eyebrows, and large eyes, and was wearing a white tank top with dark blue cargo pants.

’Could this be... one of the original owner’s cousins?’

When the boy saw Su Zhaozhao, his eyes immediately lit up. "What a beautiful girl! Why do I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before?"

Xu Yingmin immediately reached out and patted him on the head. "This is your younger cousin, Zhaozhao."

"Younger cousin? Which one?" The boy looked completely baffled, his dark eyes staring at Su Zhaozhao for a long while.

’He’d definitely never seen her before. If he had, he would’ve remembered a girl this beautiful in an instant!’

"She’s your youngest aunt’s daughter," Xu Yingmin said.

"Zhaozhao, let me introduce you. This is your second uncle’s son, your older cousin, Xu Ziyang."

"Hello, Cousin." Su Zhaozhao said obediently. ’Whatever,’ she thought. ’There’s no harm in being sweet to people I don’t know.’

But as soon as the boy heard Xu Yingmin’s introduction, his once-bright smile instantly cooled.

"My aunt’s family? Grandpa, have you lost your mind? Why are you still talking to them? They despise us and want nothing to do with us, and here you are making introductions? Hey, you brat! Our family isn’t good enough for your high-and-mighty household."

Xu Ziyang’s tune changed in an instant, from calling Su Zhaozhao a "beautiful girl" to "brat."

Su Zhaozhao had known this would happen. Her grandfather and grandmother might accept her, but that didn’t mean everyone else would.

Xu Yingmin smacked Xu Ziyang on the head again. "Xu Ziyang, watch your mouth! Your cousin hasn’t had it easy all these years."

"And you think it’s been easy for us? They were cruel enough to cut ties with us. When you went to her house before, you wanted to bring her back, but she refused! She did everything she could to kick you out. If she’s got so much backbone, she shouldn’t have shown up here now." Xu Ziyang glared sideways at Su Zhaozhao, his face full of disdain.

Su Zhaozhao remained silent. Li Chunhong cut in, stopping Xu Ziyang. "How old was your cousin then? She was just a little girl who had just lost her mother. She wasn’t close to us, so it was only natural for her to choose to stay with her father."

Listening to Xu Yingmin and Li Chunhong, and seeing their faces—so identical to her own grandparents’—Su Zhaozhao’s heart swelled with emotion.

’Sure enough, her grandparents were still her grandparents. Even in this other world, where they weren’t the same people she knew, they still protected her just as fiercely.’

"Hmph! I bet she never thinks of us unless she’s in trouble. She’s only here because she needs something."

Su Zhaozhao could see what Xu Ziyang was like. He was a straightforward person who wore his heart on his sleeve.

’Actually, a personality like that isn’t so bad. It’s better to get things out in the open.’

So she said, "I’m sorry. I was young and foolish back then, and I did a lot of things that hurt you all."

’Apologizing wasn’t a big deal to her anyway. She was willing to eat humble pie if it meant they would forgive her...’

Xu Ziyang had been about to lay into Su Zhaozhao again, but her easy apology left him momentarily speechless.

’Seriously?’

’He’d only met this cousin when they were both very young. Later, he’d heard her mother had taken her and cut off all ties with the family.’

’They hadn’t been in contact for years after that.’

’His family hadn’t gone to their aunt’s funeral, but he’d heard his grandparents went, intending to bring Su Zhaozhao back with them.’

’But to his surprise, Su Zhaozhao had refused to come back with them and had even yelled at them.’

’After they came back, his grandmother had been sick for a long time.’

’As a young man, he was impulsive and hot-tempered, and he’d held a grudge about it for all these years.’

’So of course he was angry when he saw Su Zhaozhao show up.’

’But she was smiling at him so sweetly... He was angry, yet she just apologized so good-naturedly. It made Xu Ziyang feel like he’d punched a wad of cotton, leaving him at a loss for words.’

"Zhaozhao, it’s alright, it’s alright," Xu Yingmin said. "You’re mature now. How could we hold something against you from when you were just a child? You must be tired. Go get some rest."

Su Zhaozhao looked at Xu Ziyang. "Cousin, can you forgive me?"

Her glistening eyes, like those of a fawn in the forest, were fixed on him with earnest sincerity.

In that instant, Xu Ziyang suddenly found it impossible to hate Su Zhaozhao.

So, he immediately stammered, "F-forgive..."

’What was he doing, holding a grudge against a young girl?’

Su Zhaozhao immediately smiled at Xu Ziyang. "Thank you, Cousin. I’m going to go rest now."

She really was a little tired.

You could sleep on the train, but her sleep had been fitful.

Li Chunhong led Su Zhaozhao to the guest room that had been prepared for her.

"Zhaozhao, get some rest. Are you hungry? I can make you a bowl of noodles if you like."

"No, thank you." Su Zhaozhao shook her head. "I ate plenty on the train."

"Alright then... I’ll call you when it’s time for dinner," Li Chunhong said.

"Okay!"

Su Zhaozhao closed the door, leaving herself alone in the room. She couldn’t help but let out a long sigh, finally allowing herself to relax completely.

She looked around the room. It wasn’t large, and there wasn’t much in it—just a desk and a wardrobe.

And a large bed.

The furniture had an antique charm, all crafted from wood. The wardrobe and bed looked like they could have been heirlooms from the Republican period.

The quality of the wood looked excellent. Su Zhaozhao was reminded of the gold and clothing the original owner’s mother had left behind.

’It was clear the Xu Family was quite wealthy.’

’Even after those years of turmoil, they had managed to hold onto these heirlooms.’

The bed was already made with light blue sheets patterned with beautiful white flowers.

A faint scent of laundry detergent hung in the air, a smell that was surprisingly reassuring.

Su Zhaozhao lay on the bed, closed her eyes, and was asleep in moments.

She slept so soundly that she didn’t stir until Li Chunhong knocked on the door.

Su Zhaozhao opened her eyes and went to open the door.

She saw Li Chunhong standing in the doorway. "Zhaozhao, it’s time for dinner."

"Okay."

Looking at that face, so much like her own grandmother’s, Su Zhaozhao had the sudden urge to curl up in her arms and be doted on.

That’s what she used to do as a child.

Su Zhaozhao followed Li Chunhong out into the living room and found it was now full of people.

There were two middle-aged couples and two other young people.

Xu Ziyang was sitting in a corner.

As soon as she appeared, all eyes turned to her, studying her.

"The resemblance is uncanny! She looks just like our little sister," one of the older men remarked with a sigh.
