Hello, Comrade. I'm Here to Marry You!

Chapter 201: Don’t Tell Your Brother

The young woman’s voice was somewhat demanding, as were her movements. She snatched up a piece of clothing almost instantly.

She was clearly the type of young woman who had been pampered her whole life.

But something about her was familiar.

Su Zhaozhao turned and saw a familiar face.

She was completely surprised. When the other person saw Su Zhaozhao, she was just as shocked.

"Zhaozhao? Oh my god, is it really you? You’re back in Jiang City?"

"Yeah. Didn’t you go home? What are you doing here?"

"Nah, this summer break is so long, and I was bored staying at home, so I just decided to come out and have some fun!"

As Xu Jiaxin spoke, she looked down at the garment she had just grabbed.

Her earlier assertiveness now felt incredibly awkward.

She handed it to Su Zhaozhao. "Zhaozhao, here! If you want it, go ahead and get it. It’s on me. I actually have plenty of clothes already. Pick out anything you like; as long as you have your eye on it, I’ll buy it for you!"

In fact, she had a ton of clothes in this style at home already.

But sometimes when she was out shopping, she’d see something pretty and still want it.

She wouldn’t necessarily wear it if she bought it. She might even give it away as a gift. Her closet was full of clothes that still had the tags on.

Su Zhaozhao waved her hands. "No, it’s fine. If you like it, you should keep it."

She hadn’t planned on buying it anyway.

She just found it odd that Xu Jiaxin would be shopping here. The clothes in Shencheng City were far more beautiful than what was available here, and this particular style wasn’t even that new.

But then she remembered that Xu Jiaxin was rich, and rich people naturally spent money however they pleased.

She would probably buy any piece of clothing that caught her eye.

But that wasn’t the point.

"Did you come here by yourself, or with friends?"

"Neither. I came with my brother."

Xu Jiaming?!

Su Zhaozhao looked at Xu Jiaxin in surprise. "You and your brother are that close?"

Xu Jiaxin laughed at once. "Not really. I don’t know why he came, either. I just mentioned I wanted to visit Jiang City, and I didn’t expect him to insist on coming with me."

"So where is he now?" Su Zhaozhao scanned her surroundings warily, but she didn’t see Xu Jiaming anywhere.

’If he were here, he would’ve shown himself by now.’

’I shouldn’t scare myself.’

"Oh, him? He’s not shopping with me. He told me to go on my own while he wanders around."

Su Zhaozhao nodded.

"What about you, Zhaozhao? Did you just go to West State to see your fiancé? And now you’re back? Are these your grandparents?" Xu Jiaxin’s gaze fell on Xu Yingmin and Li Chunhong, who were standing beside Su Zhaozhao.

Su Zhaozhao quickly corrected her. "They’re my maternal grandparents."

She then turned to introduce them. "Grandpa, Grandma, this is a friend I met back in West State. Her name is Xu Jiaxin."

"Hello, nice to meet you," her grandparents said to Xu Jiaxin.

Xu Jiaxin smiled back at them. "Hello, Grandpa and Grandma."

Su Zhaozhao was surprised. She hadn’t expected Xu Jiaxin to address them like that, just as she did.

’It’s actually kind of cute.’

And as she said it, a sweet smile played on her lips and her eyes shone brightly. In that instant, she transformed from a spoiled young lady into a sweet, well-behaved girl.

Su Zhaozhao turned to Xu Jiaxin. "Well, you take your time shopping. I think I’ll head home now."

The main reason was that knowing Xu Jiaming was also in Jiang City made Su Zhaozhao a little anxious. She really didn’t want to run into him.

He may have saved her last time, but that was a separate matter.

The way his cloying gaze lingered on her always made her feel like she was being stalked by a cold-blooded creature.

It made her entire body tense up with discomfort.

’It’s better if I don’t see Xu Jiaming again.’

But having finally run into Su Zhaozhao, there was no way Xu Jiaxin would let her go so easily. She immediately grabbed Su Zhaozhao’s arm. "No way, Zhaozhao! We were fated to meet like this, so how about we get a meal? I’m pretty bored, and my brother won’t go shopping with me. I’m all by myself and honestly don’t know what to do. Since you’re a local here in Jiang City, how about you keep me company?"

Before Su Zhaozhao could even respond, Li Chunhong spoke up. "That’s right, Zhaozhao, you should keep her company. We are the hosts, after all, and this young lady has come all this way. It can’t have been easy."

"Why don’t you come to our house for dinner?" Xu Yingmin added.

"Could I?" Xu Jiaxin’s eyes lit up.

"Of course you can! I’ll cook up some authentic Jiang City dishes. I guarantee you’ll enjoy them."

"Okay! That sounds great!" Xu Jiaxin immediately linked arms with Su Zhaozhao. "Then it’s settled, Zhaozhao! I’m coming to your house!"

"Oh, it’s a shame my brother is off wandering around by himself. Otherwise, he could have gotten a free meal out of it too. What a pity."

Su Zhaozhao quickly said to Xu Jiaxin, "Let’s go. We can head back home, watch some TV, and chat."

’Oh god,’ she thought, ’speak of the devil. I’m worried just mentioning Xu Jiaming will make him appear.’

Who knew if Xu Jiaming would suddenly materialize right in front of them?

Xu Jiaxin, with her carefree and straightforward personality, didn’t seem to notice that anything was amiss with Su Zhaozhao.

On the way, Xu Jiaxin asked where Su Zhaozhao lived, and Su Zhaozhao was frank, explaining that she had come back to officially transfer her residency to her grandparents’ household.

She had cut off all ties with her father.

"Why?" Xu Jiaxin was astonished. She had never heard of anyone wanting to sever ties with their own parents.

"Do you remember meeting me on the train? I wasn’t feeling well then because they had drugged me. They were planning to take me to Shencheng City. Luckily, your brother showed up and saved me."

Xu Jiaxin remembered. She had asked Xu Jiaming about it later, but he refused to say anything.

She never would have guessed this was the reason.

"Thank goodness, Zhaozhao! Thank goodness my brother found you. That really scared me to death at the time. Were you okay afterward?"

Su Zhaozhao shook her head. "My fiancé came and found me afterward."

"As long as you’re okay. Your dad and stepmom are so awful; you were right to cut them off." As Xu Jiaxin said this, her tone was filled with contempt.

"Are they in jail now? When they get out, do you want me to arrange for some guys to beat them up?"

Xu Jiaxin felt that just sending them to prison was letting them off too easy.

She wanted to find a chance to give them a good thrashing herself once they were out.

"It’s fine, really. They won’t have it easy when they get out."

’They’ll have been locked up for so long, they’ll have lost their jobs, and there won’t be any money left at home. Since I’ve cut ties with them, they won’t be able to leech off me anymore.’

’They have plenty of hard days ahead of them.’

Su Zhaozhao led Xu Jiaxin to her grandparents’ home. She then said to her, "Jiaxin, about seeing me today and coming here for dinner... can you not tell your brother?"

Xu Jiaxin was confused. "Why not?"

She could already tell that Su Zhaozhao didn’t seem to like her brother very much.

But her brother... hadn’t he saved her?
