Help! Five Beast Alphas Want To Breed Me!!(BL)
Chapter 405: I Don’t Know HowQueen Selthia;
The watchtower is one of the highest points in the kingdom.
The most quiet and most effective for solitude.
It’s difficult to get all the way to the top, but the view and being so close to the clear sky make it all worth it.
I stand beside one of the enormous arches overlooking Nagari, and I watch the city below. My kingdom... my people.
The streets are busy. Markets are open, and children are playing.
Life continues. And that pulls a certain cord in my heart—An all too familiar grey little cord.
Because life always continues.
Even after tragedy. Even after death... Even after watching a young woman bleed out in the palace gardens while protecting someone she... seemed to have every right to hate.
My fingers curl tighter behind me as I remember the small smile on her face as her eyes dimmed.
Asa...
Funny how I once felt the need to warn her not to try to hurt Elián. If only I knew she’d one day give her life for him...
The young woman arrived in our lives as a mystery and departed as an even greater one.
...The only thing I know for certain about her is that Elián loved her.
And now she is gone.
The memory of his breakdown still lingers unpleasantly in my mind, and I let out a breath as I shake it off my mind.
A Primordial grieving is not something this world was ever designed to withstand.
And if Koda had not reached him when he did... I slowly shut my eyes.
I do not finish that thought.
The aura around me shifts, but I do not need to turn around to know who just disturbed my solitude.
I only know of one person who can bend an entire space with nothing but his presence.
I turn around and find King Wilhelm walking into the small space, and my eyes immediately take in every detail of him.
He looks tired. That alone is concerning.
I have known Wilhelm for many years now.
The man has survived wars, political disasters, assassination attempts, rebellions, and enough personal tragedies that could break other rulers.
Yet somehow he always remains standing. Even when my sister—
To see exhaustion on his face feels deeply wrong. Almost scary.
Because a man who is always as composed as Wilhelm will only ever let his emotions show if there is absolutely no way he could have stopped them.
There are no attendants, or guards... or advisors behind him.
It’s just us.
And that gives a clear message he needs no words to convey. We’re about to have... a very important conversation.
"You look terrible," I break the silence, and a corner of his mouth twitches.
"And here I thought I’d dressed nicely." He replies with small amusement, causing me to huff a laugh I can’t stop.
Neither of us is truly in the mood for humour today. But a little bit of relief is needed before heavy truths.
Wilhelm moves toward one of the corners and lowers himself into the chair there.
I return my gaze to the city, and for a few seconds, neither of us speaks. We don’t have to.
We’ve both lived long enough to recognise when a conversation carries unpleasant news and needs a moment before beginning.
Finally, I break the silence.
"How is Elián?" I ask because I know he’s been hovering around the young man ever since he learned he finally has a grandchild.
"As well as can be expected." He replies, and I hum.
That’s not true. We both know. Elián may be awake. He may be eating, may even be speaking. But nobody recovers from something like that in only a few days.
Not truly. My heart aches slightly.
The poor boy has been through so much, and the problems only seem to pile up.
Since he joined the family, he hasn’t had the chance to truly settle down. He’s always on the move, and everywhere he stays, a new kind of trouble seems to find him.
At the capital was Balinar. At Gravemaw were the witches and warlocks, and now... Here in Nagari, it’s the Black Sect.
Why does every wicked eye seem to turn to him??
His sense of safety... His belief that the people around him would always survive.
All of that is being chipped away piece by piece.
Wilhelm leans back slightly. Melting into an exhausted posture not fit for a king, I turn back to him.
He may be tired, but the look in his eyes is something else. That hard look of focus that tells me it’s time for what he came here to tell me.
"What is it?" I ask quietly, and Wilhelm’s gaze settles on mine as he holds the silence for a few seconds.
"Elián told me something earlier." He informs, and I remain silent. Have they finally told him there are two of them?
"According to him, Balinar is behind all this." He replies, and for a moment, I pause. Because I know that Balinar is after Elien... but... but the Black Sect?
Surely, the lunatic wouldn’t go that far.
Yes, the cursed man has spent years poisoning every corner of this world he can reach. But even then...
This is insane.
"You’re certain?" I ask, and Wilhelm nods.
"With the information I’ve gathered, I’m as certain as I can be." He replies, and a breath escapes me as I lean against the wall behind me for support.
My thoughts immediately begin to race. Calculating. Connecting... Searching for explanations.
And when it all clicks, it becomes very alarming. Because now I realise, Elien wasn’t exaggerating when he explained to me Balinar’s obsession with him.
That rotten mistake of a being would go as far as awakening the Black Sect IN MY KINGDOMW just to get his hands on Elien again!?
My gaze drops to the ground as my heart and mind race, and Wilhelm’s voice crashes into my thoughts.
"You have that look."
I look back at him and find those dangerously observant sea blue eyes locked on me.
"What look?" I question, and he gives me a look.
"The one that says you’re connecting pieces I can’t see." He replies, and I shut my eyes.
Wonderful.
Nothing escapes him.
I sigh quietly and then look at him.
I can not tell him exactly why Balinar has done what he’s done, because then, I’d have to explain that there is Elian, and Elien. And that’s not my secret to share.
So, I have to give Balinar’s actions purpose without dismissing the truth that he’s targeting Elian.
"If Balinar truly is involved, then this situation is worse than I initially feared." I begin, and Wilhelm’s expression darkens.
"How?" He questions, and I take a moment to choose my words carefully.
"Perhaps Balinar learned about the child," I whisper, and Wilhelm goes still.
"My grandchild?" He demands almost possessively, and I nod.
"Elián is carrying Beast Haven’s future heir," I speak, and pause, to let the words settle between us.
"If Balinar wants to unravel Beast Haven... To destroy its present and future..." I continue, as I watch the wheels turn behind those calculating eyes of his.
"Targeting the child would certainly achieve that," I conclude, and Wilhelm’s jaw clenches.
I can practically feel his anger from here. And the... beautiful thing about it, is this isn’t the anger of a king... or a premodial, but the anger of a grandfather.
The distinction matters. Because now I can see that Elian holds a newly elevated place to Wilhelm because of that child.
Unfortunately, I do not have time to dwell on it. Because another name looms over this conversation.
The Black Sect.
Wilhelm’s gaze lowers briefly, then he exhales.
A tired, weary sound. The kind I have rarely ever heard from him.
"The Black Sect should have remained buried. Sealed. How could anyone even find their location?" He whispers, and a chill crawls up my spine.
"Tell me." He demands rhetorically, as he lifts his eyes toward mine.
And for the first time since this conversation began, I see genuine fear there.
Not panic, or terror, but fear.
Age-old fear. The kind carried by survivors of something horrible.
"The last war nearly destroyed everything." He whispers, and a chill runs over me as memories wash over me.
I was barely a woman then. Young, wild and clueless. But despite how clueless I was, the Black sect was horrid enough to leave its memories in my mind.
Wilhelm’s voice becomes distant as he speaks the next words. As tough relieve the horrors of that time.
"People remember the victories... But they never quite remember the cost." He whispers, and I remain silent, as my arms cross over my chest.
"Thousands died." He says, and a shiver runs through my chest.
Because this... this is the same war that killed my Father. The same word that took our Father and plunged the kingdom into the hands of two unprepared girls.
Wilhelm stares out of the window beside him, toward Nagari... Toward memories only he can see.
"You don’t know what it looked like." He whispers, and I drop my gaze. Because he’s right. I don’t know.
Father never let us leave the castle. The only things I could see were the state he was in when he died, and how red our soil was after the war.
"I watched entire villages disappear." He whispers.
"Families erased. Bloodlines ended..." He continues, then laughs softly. But there is no humour in it.
"Some mornings we’d arrive somewhere and discover there was nobody left alive to save."
The image makes me sick, but Wilhelm keeps going.
"The Sect doesn’t fight like normal enemies." He whispers as his eyes settle on mine again.
"They spread. Like a disease. Like rot... Like something infectious." He says solemnly, and a shiver runs down my spine.
"They don’t conquer kingdoms. They consume them." He continues telling me things I know, and I shut my eyes as this simply adds to the heaviness in my heart.
"Your father helped stop them. He was the strongest mage alive." He adds, and for a short, sad moment, pride flickers inside me. Followed immediately by grief.
"He saved countless lives." He continues, and a small, sad smile splits my face.
He saved many lives... but couldn’t save his.
My father... The man who taught me strategy, patience, duty... and sacrifice.
The man who never came home after promising he was going to put an end to the sect.
"He died helping seal them," Wilhelm whispers solemnly, and I stare at him.
Those words never seem to hurt less. Not even after all these years.
I lift my gaze to the ceiling, unable to stop the ache that rises inside me.
Wilhelm notices, and thankfully, he doesn’t comment.
Instead, he continues.
"Even with your father. Even with me... We barely won." He admits grimly, and the space falls silent.
Neither of us speaks for a while...Because there is nothing to say.
What is there to say? The truth is simple.
If the Black Sect had truly returned... which they have...
We are not prepared. Not even close.
I stare at the ground. At my feet... At the future rapidly crumbling apart before us.
And for the first time in what seems like ages... I cannot find a solution.
Not a single one.
Every path I consider ends badly. Every possibility feels insufficient, and every answer creates more questions.
Eventually, I close my eyes. Then quietly admit the thing I never thought I would say aloud.
"I don’t know how to stop them."
The words taste bitter. Like failure... Like defeat. Like weakness.
I have always had a plan. Always.
Even when situations seemed hopeless. Even when the entire kingdom trembled... Even when monsters threatened our borders.
There was always something I had. Some answer. Some possibility. Some secret strategy.
But this...? Now??
I have nothing.
The confession hangs between us, and Wilhelm stares at me.
For a moment, I almost regret saying it, and then he exhales. Slowly and wearily.
"Neither do I." He breathes, and my heart sinks.
Because if Wilhelm doesn’t know... Then things are truly dire.
Silence settles once more.
The honest, painful silence of two rulers... two survivors. Two people trying desperately to protect everyone they love.
And neither of them knowing how.
Then— the aura shifts, and I freeze. Because I recognise that magic. I recognise that trick.
My eyes snap to the corner, and my heart drops when Zephan materialises from thin air.
The merging spell! The same trick I taught them as boys to use in times of danger.
He used it now!?? He’s been here the whole time! And he heard everything.
Every word, every fear... Everything his jaw is tight enough to crack stone.
And as silence settles over us once more...
I realise the conversation Wilhelm and I just finished has only created an even worse one.
Because now my son knows exactly what is coming...
And that the woman meant to protect him from it... doesn’t know how to.
