Feeling the loss of that burning warmth, she clung uneasily to the blanket, trying to hold onto that last bit of heat.
Before long, she caught the scent of breakfast.
Her stomach promptly growled in protest.
Alana slowly opened her eyes and saw Stephan at the table, arranging the breakfast delivered by room service.
Stephan looked up. “Awake?”.
“Mm-hmm.”
“Get ready. Come up and have breakfast.”
Alana, feeling unusually playful, reached out to him with a soft, pleading gesture. “I don’t have the strength. Come pick me up...”
Stephan curved his lips. “Getting flirty this early in the morning?”
Sure enough, she shouldn’t have sent him any suggestive signals.
Alana quickly pulled her hands back.
Seeing her guarded expression, Stephan couldn’t help but smile affectionately. “I was just teasing you.”
Girlfriends are the most fun...just a little teasing and she’s all flushed.
Alana puffed out her cheeks. Hmph!
Teasing her again!
Stephan curved his lips into a smile as he strolled leisurely to the bed. He slipped his arms under her armpits and lifted her soft, limp body right up.
Her hair was a bit tousled from sleep, with several soft strands standing on end.
Combined with her still-dazed expression, she looked adorably dazed and cute.
Stephan raised his hand and ruffled her soft hair, then couldn’t resist leaning down to kiss her cheek.
He left a red mark on her cheek.
Alana pouted. “Hey, your saliva got on my face...”
“My girlfriend is just too cute. I couldn’t help myself.”
Stephan pinched the tip of her nose. “Besides, I’ve practically kissed that little mouth of yours to pieces, and now you’re complaining about my saliva?”
Alana sighed.
Oh well, she’d chosen him herself, so she might as well spoil him.
After a quick wash, Alana sat down with Stephan to eat breakfast.
The hotel’s breakfast spread was lavish, featuring seafood congee, assorted pastries, crispy chicken feet, steamed rice rolls, bone broth, and desserts.
Alana was cradled in Stephan’s arms, sitting on his lap as he fed her bite by bite.
Blushing, she said, “I can eat by myself. Feeding me like this makes me feel like a three-year-old.”
Stephan raised an eyebrow. “What’s wrong with being a child? I just want to spoil you like a child.”
Alana’s heart fluttered. She realized she was truly starved for affection; the mere fact that he said he wanted to pamper her like a child was enough to move her to tears.
“Stephan, I’ve realized you’re really good at loving people. If I didn’t know I was your first love, I’d think you were some kind of master of romance.”
Stephan curved his lips. “Everyone has the capacity to love. It’s not just me, you have it too.”
Alana blinked and said earnestly, “But I feel like what I’ve given you is nowhere near as much as what you’ve given me.”
He pinched her cheek affectionately. “You gave yourself to me...that’s the greatest love you could ever give me.”
Thinking of all the pain she’d endured from bullying in the past, he just wanted to treat her even better, to make up for it all.
Alana felt a lump forming in her throat again.
Some men are overly calculating in relationships, afraid of giving without receiving anything in return.
But some men feel they haven’t given enough, afraid their woman might suffer any injustice.
Whether a man loves you or not, you can always feel it.
She took a deep breath and decided to be honest with him.
“Stephan, didn’t I tell you last night that there was something I wanted to talk about?”
Stephan nodded. “Yes, what is it?”
Alana paused for a moment, then spoke slowly, “Stephan, actually, I...” Suddenly, her phone rang again, cutting off the words she was about to say.
Alana took out her phone and saw that the call was actually from her hometown.
She glanced apologetically at Stephan. “Sorry, I need to take this call.”
Stephan ruffled her hair. “Go ahead.”
Alana answered the phone; it was her uncle’s voice on the other end.
“Lana, it’s bad news...something’s happened to your grandmother again. Hurry home!”
Alana’s breath caught in her throat. “What happened to Grandma?”
“Oh dear, it’s just that she’s getting on in years and loves to keep herself busy. She’d only just broken her arm a while back, but she was in such a hurry to get out of the hospital. And now, just a few weeks after being discharged, she’s fallen again!”
“This time it’s worse than last time. She hit her head. They took her to the hospital and said it’s a cerebral hemorrhage. She’s still in the operating room right now!”
“She’s so old...we don’t even know if she’ll make it out of surgery. You need to come back right away to see her one last time!”
As soon as Alana’s heard this, her face went pale, and her fingers began to tremble uncontrollably.
Grandma had fallen, hit her head, and suffered a cerebral hemorrhage...it was worse than last time...
The more she thought about it, the more panicked she became, and tears welled up in her eyes.
She looked at Stephan, like a helpless child. “Stephan, what should I do?Something’s happened to my grandmother again...”
Stephan immediately embraced her and soothed her gently, “It’s okay, it’s okay.
Grandma is blessed with good fortune; she’ll be just fine. I’ll go back with you. Let’s go see your grandmother right now.”
Alana’s eyes were red and wet, but she forced herself to calm down.
“You’re coming back with me? Won’t that interfere with your work?”
Stephan replied earnestly, “Nothing is more important than you.”
Tears welled up in her eyes again. She nodded and quickly pulled out her phone.
“Okay, okay! I’ll book a flight right away!”
Don’t panic, absolutely don’t panic!
I have to hold it together on the way back!
Seeing her hand trembling as she held the phone, Stephan couldn’t help but say, “I’ll book the tickets. You go pack your things, we’re leaving right away!”
“Okay! You book the tickets; I’ll go back and pack.” Alana wriggled out of the man’s embrace and tried to stand up. But her legs gave way, and she nearly fell.
Stephan caught her just in time.
Concerned about her condition, he said, “I’ll have my assistant book the tickets. Let me walk you to your room first so we can pack together.”
Alana nodded. “Okay.”
She had no time to think about anything else right now; she just wanted to get back as soon as possible to see her grandmother and make sure she was safe.
Stephan called Vance and instructed him to book the earliest flight to the countryside.
Then, supporting Alana, he walked with her to the room she shared with Carla.
Alana knocked on the door quickly.
“Who is it?” Carla’s tone still carried the irritation of having been woken up.
She had been forced by her boss to work late and attend a meeting last night, so she had gone to bed late and just wanted to sleep in a little longer this morning.
As it turned out, whether a boss is handsome or not, anyone who demands overtime isn’t a good boss!
Alana hurriedly said, “Carla, open the door quickly! It’s urgent!”
Carla snapped awake. Oh my god!
Alana was out for a walk again this early in the morning?
But that wasn’t the only thing that shocked her.
When she opened the door and saw the man standing next to Alana, a man so handsome he looked unreal, her eyes widened in shock.
“You, you, you...” He looks so familiar, but she couldn’t quite place him.
Stephan introduced himself, “I’m Alana’s boyfriend.”
Carla realized, “Right, right, right! I remember now...you’re her boyfriend! Wait, Lana, how come your boyfriend is here too?”
Alana hurriedly explained, “He’s here on a business trip too.”
Carla glared at her. “No wonder you’ve been going out for walks every morning lately...so you’ve been sneaking off to meet your boyfriend!”
Alana said, “Carla, I don’t have time to explain this to you. There’s an urgent matter back home, so I have to rush back. I’m just here to pack my things. My boyfriend is here to help me pack.”
“Oh, okay.” Although Carla didn’t quite understand, she stepped aside to let the two of them enter the room together.
