–Chapter 9–

Title>> The Second Appraisal

The Next Morning...

The insides of the Grand Appraisal Hall this time weren’t as packed as before.

This was probably due to the abrupt nature of the event or maybe because Takeshi was an abomination in the making.

As usual, nobles, mages, and high-ranking church officials filled the galleries, whispering between themselves but it wasn’t as exciting as the first time.

The Princess of the kingdom, Isabella, sat on the raised platform with a deep scowl on her face. Not even her natural beauty could hide the deep fear and threat she felt.

The High Priestess Valeria on the other hand stood at the center like a blade, surrounded by several church mages in white robes.

She remained motionless like a statue being worshipped by her followers. The veil over her face hid the annoyed frown on her visage.

Something else that was different between now and when Takeshi had arrived about two days ago was that the King was absent today.

He was probably occupied with things more important than a failed hero who managed to summon seductresses instead of thunder from the sky.

As a King of this charade of a kingdom, This was probably beneath him anyways. Why come...

Takeshi arrived in the hall with calm, confident steps. The jewels of his invisible crown, the three women that were sponsoring his second chance, followed closely behind him.

Immediately...they came into view. The entire hall fell into dead silence. The whispers soon halted.

Nyxara stood forward with powerful confidence. Her dark crimson arms behind her back.

Her massive chest, powerfully built hips and butt bounced even as Nyxara remained attentive.

Drawing a mixture of terrified and yet lustful stares.

Both Lana and Solaria faced exactly the same scrutinizing eyes. Solaria hid behind him slightly as if he was her meat shield.

At the sight of them, Valeria’s hands clenched slightly at her sides, though her face remained composed.

Princess Isabella looked like she wanted to puke at the sight of them. Somewhat exaggerated to be honest.

"Those... those things are walking freely in my father’s palace?!" she hissed loudly.

Among the crowd stood Erling Vega, the C-rank Lightning Mage who had been summoned alongside Takeshi.

He wore a pair of new noble-looking clothes, and boots holding a smug, superior expression.

When his eyes landed on Takeshi and the three women, his face twisted with clear disdain.

Valeria stepped forward, her voice carrying across the hall with cold authority.

"Deva Grayfort. You have been summoned for a formal re-appraisal following your... unusual awakening in the Sanctum. Step forward."

Takeshi walked to the center of the hall without hesitation. The three maids positioned themselves behind him like a well-trained security unit.

Nyxara was on his left, Lana on his right, and Solaria remained behind.

Valeria took a staff from one of her lap dogs and raised it high with the tip of the staff glowing brightly.

And in immediate response, the appraisal crystal that hovered above like a star glowed brightly as it scanned him.

[Name]:Deva Grayfort

[Mana]: 89

[Rank]:E

[Skills]:

- Eternal Pact

- Minor Mana Sense

A quick wave of murmurs rippled through the hall at the sight of his appraisal. His rank had clearly improved since the initial summoning ceremony.

Takeshi himself paid close attention to his development and it seemed it wasn’t just strength and agility that sex with Nyxara gave him.

His mana pool had also increased although he had the feeling that was temporary too.

There was also the fact that the Herogasm aspect of his powers and his infinite mana was missed by the appraisal.

While Takeshi thought about it, Valeria’s eyes narrowed. "Interesting."

She nodded her head softly and walked forward, activating her theatrical clergy persona.

"You are a favored Hero, Deva. It seems the Goddess has indeed showered you with her infinite mercy."

The crowd present nodded and whispered with a bit more enthusiasm.

They contacted Valeria’s propaganda like a bunch of teenagers without condoms.

But Valeria’s gaze at this point had switched to the women around him.

Her eyes now traced them with recognition.

"Nyxara, the Demoness of Hellfire."

Her eyes moved again.

"Solaria the fallen saint of favour and healing," Valerie muttered audibly. Flaunting her knowledge.

"And you," she completed, pointing directly at Lana De Reyes. Unable to recall her.

"Do you swear fealty to the Kingdom of Eldratch?"

Immediate tension sprinted into the room and in less than a second of hesitation by the women, the tension thickened.

"I.." Takeshi was about to speak when Princess Isabella stood up abruptly, pointing at them with fury.

Her face still carrying that scowl from earlier.

"These abominations shouldn’t be allowed to roam free. They should be in cuffs!" she shouted.

"This is an insult to the godd–"

"Princess..." Valeria’s voice filled the room, carrying venom like nothing Isabella had seen before.

"Please sit down, Your Highness," Valeria completed.

But the damage was already done. Many nobles switched sides and now nodded in agreement with Isabella’s outburst.

Erling Vega the thunder hero crossed his arms while standing to the side, his gaze was completely on Takeshi.

He wasn’t necessarily that angry at Takeshi but rather jealous since Takeshi was now stealing all the spotlight.

However, Takeshi who was subtly traded in the crowd like a broken sword remained calm.

He looked directly at Isabella and spoke clearly, his voice carrying through the hall.

"Your Highness...I’m confused,"

"--Wasn’t it the High Priestess herself who declared that the sanctum was a sacred trial from the goddess?"

Turning away from the Princess and out of the appraisal circle, he looked at the galleries.

"I did as I was told, I entered as ordered. I survived. And..."

He looked back, pointing at Nyxara, Solaria and Lana.

"...These beautiful women have appeared as a direct result of that trial and the goddess’s favour."

Pausing for dramatic flair. He raised a solemn expression.

"Are you now saying the goddess made a mistake by allowing them to bond with her summoned hero?"

The hall fell silent. The Nobles, the Mages and some merchants present exchanged uneasy but understanding glances.

The weight of what Takeshi said was breathing down on their obvious prejudice on other races.

"Princess...he speaks wisdom," the voice that pulled all the attention came from the top of the gallery just below the throne of the king.

Its source was none other than Countess Elowen Otto. The leader and matriarch of House Otto.

She stood gracefully, her eyes warm and yet sharper than a blade. Her sky blue hair braided in a meticulous single plait that hung over her shoulder.

"Listen my friends, if truly he has obtained this power from the trial then it must be from the goddess herself."

The other lesser nobles began nodding at the logic. It was as if what Takeshi had been saying all this while was in a foreign tongue and it was only now that it came from someone with noble standing that they understood.

"If that–"

"Excuse me, Elowen."

A deep, burly voice interrupted before the Countess could continue.

It belonged to Duke Galan Grimwald, patriarch of House Grimwald.

Naturally, he wasn’t about to let another great house dominate the discussion without offering his own opinion.

"If these abominations are truly gifts from the Goddess, then we cannot simply accept them at face value."

He continued,

"We must appraise them as well if we are to know whether they will prove useful in our war against the Darkness."

’Appraisal?’ Takeshi’s eyes squinted. Why hadn’t he thought of that.

"Wait... wait...wait...Appraisal?"

Takeshi nervously turned to Lana De Reyes.

"Doesn’t that mean.."

His expression grew weary.

"Fuck!"
