Father Xu and Mrs. Xu exchanged a glance, both a little hesitant.

They were used to living frugally, so the sudden talk of moving to a big house was hard for them to accept at first.

"Dad, Mom," Xu Wuyi said, softening his tone. "I’m not trying to buy a mansion to show off. It’s partly for my Cultivation, and partly because you’re getting older. Living in a better environment will be good for your health."

His last words made Mrs. Xu’s eyes well up.

"Okay... okay." Mrs. Xu dabbed at the corners of her eyes. "We’ll listen to you."

Father Xu also nodded. "You can make the arrangements."

Xu Wuyi breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright, I’ll contact the person who handles these things."

He opened his terminal, found Chen Mo’s communication code, and placed the call.

The call connected three seconds later.

"Martial Artist Xu?"

"Lieutenant Colonel Chen, I need you to come by."

"I’ll be right there."

Ten minutes later, Chen Mo knocked and entered.

Xu Wuyi had him sit and got straight to the point. "I want to find a new house for my family. The requirements are quiet and spacious, preferably with a private Cultivation Room. Location isn’t important, but the environment must be good. Budget... let’s say within fifty million."

Chen Mo showed no surprise at all, nodding. "Understood. There aren’t many properties in the Red River City District that meet your requirements, but there are a few newly built high-end communities in the suburbs with good environments and solid security. If you’d like, I can contact the developers and arrange for you to see the available houses directly."

"You arrange it," Xu Wuyi said. "The sooner the better."

He knew that industry in Red River City had been booming in recent years, so there were quite a few new property developments.

"Of course. I’ll start making calls this afternoon." Chen Mo paused for a moment. "Also, the Qiao Family has instructed that if you plan to reside in Red River long-term, you could consider building a small cultivation ground nearby. The Battle Group can fund it as a benefit for your family."

Xu Wuyi thought for a moment. "Let’s look at houses first. We can talk about the cultivation ground later."

"Understood."

Chen Mo stood up and took his leave.

After he left, Mrs. Xu asked in a low voice, "Ah Yi, that Lieutenant Colonel Chen... is he assigned to serve you specifically?"

"Yes, the Dongjiang Battle Group set up a liaison office in Red River, mainly for my convenience," Xu Wuyi explained. "My status is special now, so the military makes certain arrangements. You don’t need to worry about it."

Father Xu nodded and didn’t press the matter.

Their son was now a hero of the Federation, a Martial Artist standing at the very peak. There were some things they didn’t understand, so they didn’t ask.

"What do you want for lunch? Mom will make it for you." Mrs. Xu got up and headed toward the kitchen.

"How about braised fish?" Xu Wuyi said. "I haven’t had it in a long time."

"Okay, I’ll go buy a fish right now."

Mrs. Xu picked up her shopping basket and was about to head out, but Xu Wuyi stood up. "I’ll go with you."

"No need, you should sit and rest..."

"It’s fine. It’ll be nice to take a walk."

The mother and son went downstairs together.

The wet market outside their residential complex was the same as always. The shouts of vendors, the haggling of customers, and the laughter of children mingled together, filling the air with the vibrant pulse of life.

Mrs. Xu walked up to a familiar fish stall. The vendor, an uncle in his fifties, saw Xu Wuyi and his eyes lit up. "Well, if it isn’t Ah Yi! You’re back?"

"Uncle Wang, long time no see," Xu Wuyi said with a smile.

"Good, good, it’s good that you’re back." Uncle Wang deftly scooped up a live fish. "This one’s plump. I’ll give your mom a discount."

Mrs. Xu paid, bought some green vegetables and tofu, and the two slowly walked home.

On the way, they ran into a few old neighbors, who all greeted Xu Wuyi warmly. When some asked about the front lines, Xu Wuyi gave a simple, noncommittal answer; when others praised him for his success, he simply smiled.

This simple, mundane daily life made him feel very grounded.

Lunch was a feast.

Braised fish, mapo tofu, stir-fried seasonal vegetables, and pork rib soup—they were all Xu Wuyi’s favorite dishes.

The family of three sat around the dining table, eating in comfortable silence.

Mrs. Xu kept putting food on her son’s plate, and Father Xu would occasionally ask a few questions about his Cultivation, which Xu Wuyi answered selectively.

After lunch, Xu Wuyi returned to his room.

The room was still the same as he’d left it—desk, bed, wardrobe, all simple and neat. The award certificates he had won in middle school were still taped to the wall, now slightly yellowed with age.

He sat down on the edge of the bed, opened his personal terminal, and pulled up his Cultivation records.

In the less than two years since breaking through to the Innate realm, his Life Energy Level had risen from 40 to 46. His Heart Image had evolved from a mountain into a great marsh, and the Golden Crow aspect had also been preliminarily activated.

Such a speed of progression was rare even in the history of the Federation.

But Xu Wuyi knew very well that behind this rapid advancement were countless life-and-death battles, the constant polishing of his Heart Image’s structure, and an ever-deepening understanding of the Rules.

The path ahead would be even more difficult.

Becoming a Grandmaster wasn’t just about accumulating power. It was the complete fusion of the Heart Image and the physical body, a grasp of the essence of the Rules, a leap to a higher level of life itself.

’One step at a time.’

He closed his terminal, sat cross-legged on the bed, and began his daily Cultivation.

Within his sea of consciousness, the dark golden marsh breathed peacefully.

He no longer rushed to force the fusion, but instead observed quietly.

He observed how the Heavy Water rose and fell with each breath, how the Golden Crow’s Flame brightened and dimmed in rhythm, and the subtle resonance between the two sets of Rules.

It was like watching the flow of a river—unhurried, with a rhythm all its own.

...

At three in the afternoon, a message arrived from Chen Mo.

"Martial Artist Xu, I’ve found three properties that meet your requirements. The first is a detached villa in ’Shanshui Manor’ in East City, with a basement Cultivation Room. The second is a townhouse in the quiet ’Serene Lake Court’ neighborhood, located in the north of the city. The third is in ’Maplewood Residence,’ a new and fully-equipped complex in the western suburbs. If you’re available, we can view them tomorrow."

Xu Wuyi replied, "Tomorrow morning is fine. Let’s see all three."

"Understood. I’ll arrange for a car."

Putting down the terminal, Xu Wuyi walked out of his room.

Father Xu was on the balcony watering the plants, and Mrs. Xu was in the living room knitting a sweater.

"Dad, Mom, we’re going to look at houses tomorrow," Xu Wuyi said.

Mrs. Xu put down her knitting. "So soon?"

"Lieutenant Colonel Chen is very efficient." Xu Wuyi sat down next to his mother. "You both should come tomorrow. We’ll pick whichever one you like."

Father Xu came in from the balcony. "The price... are you sure it’s not a problem?"

"I’m sure." Xu Wuyi smiled. "Your son doesn’t lack for money these days."

Father Xu nodded and said no more.

In the evening, Xu Wuyi accompanied his father for a walk through the old city district.

The setting sun painted the streets golden. Old men sat playing chess under the trees, children played in open spaces, and vendors pushed their carts, crying out their wares.

"When you were little, you used to run all over this street," Father Xu said, pointing ahead. "Back then, your mom would chase you around to feed you, and you’d eat while you ran."

Xu Wuyi chuckled. "I remember."

"Time flies," Father Xu sighed. "In the blink of an eye, you’re all grown up, a hero of the Federation."

He stopped walking and looked at his son. "Ah Yi, Dad knows the path you’re on isn’t easy. But no matter how far you go, remember that home will always be here for you."

Xu Wuyi nodded. "I know."

The father and son walked home slowly.

The streetlights came on one by one. Wisps of smoke rose from the chimneys of every home, and the aroma of cooking food drifted through the air.

Ordinary and warm.
