High School DxD: Fox of Ill Omen

Chapter 167 — Past and Flirting

Yuki

Koneko and I were the only two in the club room after school.

We were supposed to start strategizing for our Rating Game against Diodora Astaroth today after learning that he would be our opponent yesterday.

Rias and Akeno had been here when we first arrived, but had left after Rias had said that she needed to find Azazel-sensei.

Koneko-chan had arrived at my classroom right after school had ended, and we had left to come to the club while Issei bickered with Kiryuu-san about something.

Asia had been trying to get them to stop while Xenovia and Irina had watched them with interest.

I hadn’t seen Yuuto today at school yet, so I didn’t know what was taking her so long.

Gasper had gone to his old room in the old school house to check on his computer that he had left there.

He had a different one at Issei’s house and kept this one here to use for his Devil work.

It was still impressive to me that all of his contracts took place over the computer.

Koneko-chan and I were casually playing a game of checkers as we waited for the others to arrive.

I had suggested chess, but she had said she wasn’t in the mood to think too hard.

Koneko moved a piece to take one of mine as she ate one of her snacks from the plate beside her.

She looked thoughtful as she glanced at me before looking back down at the board.

“Is there something on your mind?” I asked as I took my turn.

Koneko hesitated before answering.

“…I was curious about something you had said before. You told Akeno-senpai and Buchou that you weren’t interested in anyone romantically before, right?” She asked.

I narrowed my eyes at her.

“I hope you’re not going to ask if I really am interested in Issei-san, Koenko-chan,” I said.

She shook her head.

“I was wondering… why, when you said that, did it sound like you weren’t interested in romance at all?”

I paused, then let out a sigh.

That was not something I enjoyed thinking about.

“It’s because I’m not right now,” I said leaving back into my seat and looking at the ceiling. “I was in a relationship in one of my past peerages. It was a few years ago, while I was in one of my last peerages before coming here. I had only been in one or two relationships before that one, but it was the only serious one I had been in,” I sighed, looking back at Koneko. “The person I was dating was a few years older than me and had been in that peerage a while before I arrived. They took an interest in me immediately after we met, and I enjoyed the attention. We started to date, and for a while things were fine. Then things became more serious, and I told them about some of the things that had happened in my past. She… she became disgusted by me, saying that I had tricked her and lied to her. She ended things with me and then proceeded to ensure that the rest of my time in that peerage was awful. It made me close myself off from those types of relationships after that. It didn’t seem like something that would go well for me.”

I stared down at the checkerboard.

I recalled Selene, the girl I was telling Koneko about.

That peerage had initially been one of the better ones I had been a part of.

The [King] hadn’t been anyone impressive, but he had been kind to me, or at least didn’t treat me poorly.

Selene had been a few years older than me and was beautiful.

When she took an immediate liking to me and was kind and caring with me, I quickly reciprocated her interest.

I had fallen in love with her quickly.

Things had been good for a while, and I was happy for the first time in a long while.

Then our relationship progressed, and we had sex.

Selene had been surprised, telling me that she had thought that I would be a virgin.

I hesitated to tell her about what had happened to me in my previous peerages, but decided that she cared for me and that I could trust her.

So I told her some of what happened and the abuse I had experienced before meeting her.

She had asked if I was serious, and I had thought she was concerned when she asked.

I had tearfully told her yes and told her that I had been abused and raped before and that she was my first experience where I had chosen to be with someone.

Instead of comforting me, she was enraged and disgusted.

She shouted at me, saying that I had tricked her.

I tried to explain that I hadn’t known how to tell her, but she didn’t listen.

She started calling me names and pushed me away.

She stormed off, telling me that we were over, and I had broken down sobbing.

After that, she began telling the rest of our peerage that I was a whore and changed their opinion of me quickly.

I was stunned by the drastic change in her personality.

I didn’t even try to explain things to the others in the peerage, which didn’t help.

I figured that they wouldn’t believe me over her since she had known her much longer than me.

I closed myself off after that.

I realized that Selene wouldn’t be the only one to react that way if I tried to find someone again.

It made me realize that a normal relationship wasn’t something meant for me.

Koneko brought me out of my thoughts.

“…That person sounds awful. I’m sorry that happened to you, senpai.”

“It’s fine, Koneko-chan, but thank you. It was a while ago, so I’ve come to terms with it,” I replied.

She frowned at me.

“I think that you shouldn’t let that person continue to hold you back, senpai.”

I sighed.

“You may be right, but the experience made me learn a few things that I won’t let myself forget.”

Koneko didn’t seem satisfied with my answer but let it be.

“…so, you dated a girl?” She asked as she moved another of her pieces.

I blinked.

“Yes. I guess I hadn’t mentioned it directly to anyone yet, but I’m attracted to women,” I paused. “If it bothers you, let me know. I understand that might make some people uncomfortable.”

Koneko tilted her head.

“What do you mean?” She asked, curiously.

“Well, we share baths occasionally and train closely together,” I said with a shrug. “I’ve met other girls who have had an issue with me because of it before.”

“I don’t think anyone in our peerage would be like that, Yuki-senpai. We have Issei-senpai and no one really cares about him being a pervert, so no one will care about who you're attracted to. Plus, Xenovia-senpai already told you she was interested in having your child.” Koneko said with a small grin.

“Please don’t remind me of that. I don’t get why she can’t just bother Issei-san. He’s obviously interested in the idea,” I said with a huff.

Konkeo let out a chuckle.

“I also think Akeno-senpai is the same,” she continued.

“Really?” I asked.

I took one of Koneko’s pieces and promoted one of mine.

When I looked up, she was giving me a look.

“Well… maybe, but with her it's hard to tell.”

“...Right.”

Koneko didn't sound convinced.

She moved a piece and jumped two of mine.

I sighed as I realized she was going to win.

“...and me too.”

“Hmm?”

I looked up at her.

Her face was blank as I met her gaze, but her tail was shifting back and forth behind her.

“Me too. I like both girls and boys,” She said, her cheeks slightly turning pink.

“Oh. Thank you for telling me that, Koneko-chan. I’m glad you trust me enough to let me know. Have you found a girl you're interested in then?”

She let out an affirmative hum and nodded.

I smiled at her and went to ask her another question when Issei, Irina, Asia, and Xenovia walked in.

I closed my mouth.

I didn’t know if Koneko was comfortable with everyone knowing her preferences yet.

Asia and Xenovia came over to us and sat down while Irina and Issei went over to Akeno’s tea set.

“Hello, Yuki! Hello, Koneko-chan!” Asia greeted us brightly.

“Hello, Asia.”

“…Hi, Asia-senpai.”

“Hello. We were hoping to play Orthello before the meeting,” Xenovia said. “Would you want to play in teams after you’ve finished your game?”

I glanced at Koneko.

“…That sounds fun. I’m up for it if Yuki-senpai is,” Koneko-chan said.

I looked down at our game.

“I’ll play. Koneko-chan, are you alright if we end our game and say you won?”

Koneko hummed and thought for a moment.

Then she nodded.

We cleared the board and put away the checkers box while Xenovia grabbed the other game.

She came back and sat down next to Koneko-chan again.

“Do we want the people sitting next to each other to be teammates?” I asked.

I looked at the others and saw them nod in agreement.

We started the match, and Koneko went first.

“What were you two talking about when we came in?” Asia asked as she took our team's turn.

“…Nothing much,” Koneko-chan replied, as Xenovia took her turn.

“Just about one of my old peerages. Nothing important though.”

“That would have been interesting to hear about,” Xenovia said.

I smiled wryly.

“I’ll tell you about it some other time.”

“I know that your previous peerages weren’t very good to you, Yuki, but do you have any happy stories from any of them?” Asia asked, watching me with concern.

I thought for a moment.

“One I can think of off the top of my head is of a person from my first peerage. One of the [Rooks], a boy named Cassius,” I said with a small smile. “I was young when I joined Orutho Raim’s peerage, and Cassius was three or four years older than me. He had been in the peerage before I arrived. We were both the youngest members of the peerage, so he decided to look out for me. At first I was scared and standoffish with everyone, including him, because of how I ended up there. But eventually I opened up to him, and he was like a big brother to me. I even called him Onii-san occasionally,” I chuckled. “We were both oddities, like all the others in Orutho’s collection. He was still in the peerage when I was traded away. I hope he was traded away before Orutho died or escaped after he did.”

The others had stopped playing as they listened to my short story.

Asia smiled at me.

“I’m sure he’s alright, Yuki. Maybe we will be able to find him. Rias-san would help if you ask, and maybe Azazel-sensei would too.”

I nodded.

“You’re right, Asia. Unless I hear otherwise, I should treat it as if he’s still out there somewhere,” I replied.

“Raim was a collector of unique beings, right? What is special about Cassius?” Xenovia asked.

“He’s a lycanthrope,” I answered. “Specifically, a Cerberus-type lycanthrope.”

“I’ve never encountered such a being before in my time as an exorcist,” Xenovia said.

“…I’ve heard of werewolves, weretigers, and other forms of Lycanthropes, but nothing like that,” Koneko said.

I nodded.

“They are extremely rare. Cassius’s family are werewolves. He said that a wereceberus will appear once every few generations in his family line, but since they’re viewed as bad luck, they’re always cast out by the age of ten. He was found by Orutho after his family disowned him.”

“That’s awful,” Asia said, with a worried look.

“It is, but the world is cruel, and people are the unlucky ones,” I replied.

Xenovia nodded in agreement.

Koneko frowned slightly.

The mood at the table had dipped.

So, I decided to change the subject.

“So, what took you all so long to get here? Was it whatever Kiryuu-san and Issei-san were arguing about?” I asked.

“Yes, Ise-san and Kiryuu-san were talking for a while, though I don’t think they resolved anything,” Asia said with a wry smile. “Ise-san was telling Kiryuu-san not to tell Xenovia-san and me about certain kinds of things. But Kiryuu-san didn’t seem to listen to him.”

“…What did Kiryuu-senpai say that bothered Issei-senpai?” Koneko-chan asked as she reached for another one of her snacks.

Asia went to reply, but Xenovia beat her to it.

“Because of how Asia and I were flirting with Issei today.”

“X-Xenovia-san, w-we don’t have to talk about that!” Asia quickly said as she turned pink.

I blinked and glanced at Koneko, who also looked confused.

Xenovia-san tilted her head.

“Why not? They asked, and maybe Koneko and Yuki know more about how to flirt properly.”

“I-I don’t know if we should ask them…” Asia said nervously.

I looked between the two of them.

“What’s the problem with you flirting with Issei-san?” I asked. “That doesn’t sound like something that would be too difficult.”

“Issei definitely enjoyed the flirting, but when I told him Kiryuu had been the one to explain to me how to do it, he became annoyed,” Xenovia replied.

Asia’s face turned redder.

I sighed.

“If Kiryuu-san was the one to tell you, then it’s probably something ridiculous. What did she say?”

“That flirting is something you do to attract someone’s interest.”

That sounded normal enough.

“And it’s where you have your breasts played with by a boy,” Xenovia finished.

There it was.

Koneko stared blankly at Xenovia.

“Xenovia... that isn’t what flirting is,” I said after a moment.

“No, it is,” she said with complete sincerity. “I overheard another girl talking about it in class. She said that her boyfriend touches her breasts every day and that it makes them bigger too. I wanted to make sure that it was true, so I researched it after talking to Kiryuu again.”

I stared at her and felt a headache coming on.

“And in your ‘research,’ did you find different information?” I asked.

“From the websites I visited and the books and manga that Kiryuu showed me, I found it wasn’t wrong. The websites even had some instructional videos.”

I looked at Asia.

“And you went along with this?”

She poked her fingers together nervously while glancing to the side.

“W-Well, Xenovia-san was very convincing. A-And she said she had researched it, so I didn’t want to question her,” then she mumbled, “And Ise-san seemed to like it.”

Xenovia nodded.

“Issei seemed very happy with it until we had to stop when Irina walked in on us. After that, we decided to get cleaned up and go to class. But Asia and I were able to flirt with him while Rias and Akeno weren’t present to steal his attention.”

Koneko narrowed her eyes at Xenovia.

“…Don’t become a lewd senpai like Akeno-senpai.”

Xenovia tilted her head in confusion.

Then she turned to me as if she had thought of something.

“Maybe I should have invited you too this morning, Yuki.”

I felt one of my ears twitch.

“Xenovia, I have absolutely no interest in doing that.”

“Doing what?” Issei asked as he and Irina sat down, came over, and passed out teacups to everyone.

“I was just telling Yuki that I should have had her join us with our flirting,” Xenovia explained. “Since she can have children with other girls, I could have flirted with her while Asia flirted with you. In my research, I saw that your breasts can grow no matter who plays with them. Plus, Yuki could have also practiced making babies with me too.

Issei’s eyes widened.

Irina looked back and forth between Xenovia and me.

I put a hand over my face.

“Umm, Xenovia, why would you be doing that stuff with Yuki-san?” Irina asked

I remained silent as I didn’t want to rehash this whole conversation.

Asia awkwardly tried to explain.

“W-Well, uh, y-you see—“

“Kitsune women can have children with other females. She can shapeshift to grow a penis.” Xenovia said bluntly, cutting Asia off.

I sighed.

Irina looked at me with surprise and curiosity.

“Oh! I… I didn’t know that was possible… But I thought you wanted to have children with Ise-kun?”

“I would like a child, and they are both good candidates for giving me a strong one. So I’m fine with it being from either of them.”

As Xenovia said that, Yuuto and Gasper-kun walked in.

Gasper-Kun quickly made his way to his box, while Yuuto paused, seeing the strange atmosphere around the rest of us.

Asia was flustered and red-faced.

I was wishing that this whole conversation never happened.

Issei looked like he didn’t know if he should be here.

Xenovia was the same as usual.

Koneko was giving her a disappointed look.

And Irina was looking at Xenovia with a complicated gaze.

“So, what did I miss?” Yuuto asked as she moved to take a seat in one of the armchairs.

“Nothing of value,” I muttered.

“I was explaining to Irina how Yuki can have children with other women,” Xenovia said.

Yuuto slowly nodded.

“I see… Well, Buchou, Akeno-san, and Azazel-sensei were right behind me, so we should all get ready for the meeting.”

As she finished speaking, the three of them walked through the door.

Akeno-san was pushing a cart that held a projector on it as they entered.

“Everyone is here? Good,” Rias said, looking over the group. “We will be watching videos of Rating Games today, so get comfortable.”

Everyone moved to their regular spots.

Koneko moved to my lap, and I wrapped an arm around her as she leaned back against me.

It had quickly become second nature to me with how often she was doing it.

I didn’t mind, though.

If it made her happy, I was happy to let her sit in my lap.

“Are you comfortable?” I asked quietly, close to her cat ears.

“Nyan~”

She murmured while she gave a small nod.

I couldn’t help but smile at that.

Azazel-sensei clapped to gather attention to himself, as the lights in the room were dimmed.

“Alright. We have a recording of your fight against Sona Sitri and her peerage to go over. I will be going over each of your performances and critiquing you so that you know what to focus on for the next match,” Azazel said as he looked over our group. “We also have videos of the Rating Games between the other young Devil groups. Sairaorg of house Bael versus Zephyrdor of house Glasya-Labolas and Seekvara of house Agares versus Diodora of house Astaroth. We will be watching each of their matches and going over them as well. You will be having a match against each of the four of them in the future, so pay attention. These are your rivals.”

“Yes.” Everyone answered together.

The projector hummed to life, and an image formed on the screen that had been pulled down over the blackboard.

“First, we will be going over the match between Sairarorg Bael and Zephyrdor Glasya-Labolas,” Azazel-sensei said.
