Chapter 2891 - 1111: The Great Crow’s IdentityChapter 2891: Chapter 1111: The Great Crow’s Identity
The Gem Cat entered the Sakura Pub with a furrowed brow, weighed down by thoughts of connections among the black-robed, the eclipse, and Korma, yet no matter how hard it tried, it couldn’t find any links among these terms.
It looked up and saw the pub owner.
It hesitated for a moment.
For today, Korma appeared quite different from usual. Although she was still sitting behind the bar, she wasn’t surrounded by opened rum bottles nor playing with tarot cards; she was reading a book!
Indeed, as far as it remembered, Zheng Qian had never seen Korma reading a book before.
A few stars chased each other beneath the ceiling, casting a silver-white starlight throughout the room that made the witch’s silver hair shine even more dazzlingly. She pursed her lips, held a feather pen in her hand, and seriously marked and drew on that book.
"Sit."
The witch ordered concisely without lifting her head.
The Gem Cat climbed onto the bar and obediently sat beside the snack plate, stretching its neck to steal a glance at what book the witch was reading, but all the visible words on the pages blurred and became unreadable.
It spent a moment straining its eyes before realizing this must be some anti-peeping magic, indicating the pub owner didn’t want it to see the contents of the book.
The Gem Cat reluctantly retracted its neck.
It’s but an ordinary little cat, and when a Big Wizard subtly restricts it from doing certain things, it should wisely follow this Big Wizard’s instructions.
But after waiting for a long time, the witch remained engrossed in her work, and the Gem Cat grew more restless, finally unable to help but ask, "—What’s going on with those black-robed figures just now?"
"The school’s Divination Group’s wizards." The witch responded simply without looking up.
"Divination Group? Why is the school’s Divination Group seeking you?"
"Because I’m the only witness, and they need clues for their pursuit."
"Witness?" The Gem Cat perked up, its ears immediately standing straight, feeling it might be nearing some truth: "What witness? What are they pursuing?"
Korma finally shifted her gaze from the book to the small black cat the size of a fist.
"They’re pursuing Professor Montreya, and I was the last to see him." Her tone was calm as she spoke, completely ignoring the perplexed expression of the Gem Cat.
"Pursuing Professor Montreya?"
The little cat raised its paw and wiped its ear, thinking it was mishearing: "The Professor Montreya who is another vice dean of the Edge Academy? Our Magic Language Professor?"
"If you have no other Magic Language Professor, then yes, it’s him." The witch confirmed definitively.
The Gem Cat fell into complete silence.
Though its essence was a stone, sometimes slow to react, it didn’t mean it was stupid.
After a while, the Gem Cat finally sorted its thoughts a bit and quietly asked the first part it didn’t understand: "Why do you... I mean, why do they want to pursue Professor Montreya?"
"Because he took advantage of the eclipse and attacked me."
Korma didn’t seem worried about how these answers might trouble the Gem Cat, answering carefully without any perfunctory: "—Just a few hours ago, the aftermath of our fight nearly destroyed the entire number 33 Gu Diao Street... What you’re seeing now is the school’s magic restoration result. The good news is, Professor Montreya perhaps remembered he’s the vice dean of Edge Academy and didn’t deal severely with other Northern District Wizards, so no one died in this conflict."
The Gem Cat unconsciously raised its voice, shouting, "Is he crazy? Attacking you? Why?"
Korma looked the Gem Cat up and down with interest.
"There are a few speculations, not necessarily correct."
She raised three fingers, bending them down one by one: "—Perhaps he thinks without me, he could become the dean of Edge Academy; perhaps he thinks without me, the school would give another special construct to him; or maybe he simply was visiting me tonight but lost control unexpectedly."
The first two possibilities were easy to grasp.
"What does ’accidentally lost control’ mean?" The Gem Cat’s voice was a bit hoarse, its body sitting straighter, faintly aware of something but not yet certain.
The witch’s mouth curled slightly.
"Exactly as you thought." She lowered her head again to the book at hand, speaking blandly: "I remember you were his assistant in his laboratory before. What’s the name of his laboratory?"
"High-level Magic Rune and Bloodline Research Laboratory."
"Yes... Bloodline Research. The most dangerous, yet easiest to lose control magic research in this world." The witch sighed deeply, but never voiced the possibility the Gem Cat guessed.
Crow!
It’s a crow!
Professor Montreya is the big crow hiding in the school!
The Gem Cat roared in its mind, countless thoughts clashing, finally tearing apart the misty veil that always blocked its view — it was eager to bring this big news back, wanting that guy to have a sleepless night, yet it was equally keen to know Montreya’s whereabouts.
"Where is Professor Montreya now?"
"Naturally, hiding." The witch shook her head, calm as if speaking about someone else: "—He somewhat underestimated the completion of my true form, leading to his failure. Causing such a disaster, the school certainly can’t keep him, and as for elsewhere..."
She looked up again, glancing outside the pub.
The Gem Cat followed her gaze to the window and finally realized tonight two moons appeared in the sky. Only the real moon was overly dim and small, completely overshadowed by the other moon’s brilliance.
"...The school is actively tracing his whereabouts, but from what I know, the search is still restrained and controlled within a certain range. After all, the defection of a Big Wizard at the vice dean level has never happened in the history of the First University. Such a level of scandal is enough to throw the entire Alliance into chaos... Cough cough, cough cough cough!"
She suddenly began coughing violently, her cheeks visibly turning a shade paler.
The Gem Cat looked at her worriedly.
"—Are you hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital?" Knowing these are futile words, it still couldn’t help but speak them: "If money is tight, I can lend you some."
Northern District Wizards have always been poor, a consensus among all, and someone like Korma, who has to take care of such a huge mess, naturally can’t save up any money.
This made it suspect the witch might be toughing it out here because of a lack of funds.
Coincidentally, someone made a couple of lucrative ’arms deals’ this semester, their wallet nice and plump. Since the Gem Cat didn’t need to foot the bill, it was naturally very generous.
