His Beloved Treasure
Chapter 2128 - 611: Stubborn Yet Kind, Tucking Him In (Third Update)Chapter 2128: Chapter 611: Stubborn Yet Kind, Tucking Him In (Third Update)
Helian Hao stroked her slightly rounded belly and let out a helpless sigh.
Qin Mu stood leaning against the table, head lowered, thinking for a while.
"Yang Qin likes Mu Yichen. Yesterday..."
Qin Mu told Helian Hao the whole story from beginning to end. After listening, Helian Hao burst out laughing. "No wonder. Last night Jing Feng was speaking in that weird, snide way, saying Mu Yichen was going to be unlucky. But how could he possibly mistake Yang Qin for you?"
"What I’m mad about isn’t that he was careless enough to mistake Yang Qin for me, it’s that Yang Qin clearly knew Mu Yichen had got the wrong person, yet she still went and sat down on his bed."
Qin Mu finally voiced what was on her mind.
"Then by your logic, you can’t blame Mu Yichen for this. You’re mad at Yang Qin, so why are you still mad at Mu Yichen?"
"Let me put you there, watching your own husband in the same bed with another woman. You telling me you wouldn’t be angry?"
Qin Mu threw the question back at her, then shook her head and walked over to the window, half leaning against the frame as she looked out. "Xiaohao, I know there’s no one else in his heart. You can call me dramatic or petty if you want, but I really am angry."
"Ai! Then just be angry. It’s not like it’s the first time you’ve been mad at him. Isn’t that Gongzhi Ping’an trying to get close to you? Just use this chance to give your husband a nice little payback."
Helian Hao raised her brows at her, and Qin Mu...
"But I also heard something else—come here!"
Helian Hao suddenly turned mysterious, crooking her finger at Qin Mu. Seeing her waggling her eyebrows like that, Qin Mu leaned over.
After hearing it, Qin Mu was completely stunned. "I don’t believe it!"
She said she didn’t believe it, yet she still thought of that year, when Mu Yichen helped Xiao Wei get pregnant with Jian Yan’s child. But those things between the men—she couldn’t be bothered to interfere. She listened, and then let it go.
On the drive home, she thought of what Helian Hao had asked her: had Mu Yichen never considered firing Yang Qin? Or sending Yang Qin back overseas?
Mu Yichen really hadn’t mentioned it to her. Qin Mu figured he was probably planning to tough it out for a few more months. Time flies when you think about it.
Feeling stifled, she had no idea where she ended up driving. It felt like she had been going straight down the same road forever before she snapped back to herself and realized she was already on the expressway. Where was she even going?
She saw a road sign for Feng City by the side of the road, and only then did Qin Mu come to. She had no choice but to make a turn and find another way back.
By the time she returned to the city, it was already past noon. She casually picked a noodle shop, went in, ordered a bowl of beef noodles, and ate by herself, listening to the low murmurs of the people around her.
It felt pretty good to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations like this. There was a sense of peeking into other people’s privacy, which made her secretly excited, and she couldn’t help but keep listening.
Some people were talking to friends about their family matters. Some were complaining about things at their company. Some said they’d made bad friends, or that their blind date turned out to be a complete scumbag. Every single story sounded cliché as hell, but at a time like this, listening to them was actually quite entertaining.
The whole meal cost barely over twenty yuan, yet it killed nearly forty minutes. Qin Mu felt this bowl of noodles was totally worth it.
Back home, she searched for her phone and discovered there were three unread WeChat messages, all from Mu Yichen.
"Mom said you went out. Did you go to the studio?"
"Forget it. Wherever you go, remember to eat lunch properly."
"What time are you coming home this afternoon? I’ve got nothing much this afternoon, I can come back and keep you company."
After reading the messages, Qin Mu still didn’t get out of the car. She suddenly felt drained, slumping in the seat as she thought back to yesterday, to the look in Mu Yichen’s eyes. He hadn’t been unbothered; he had just been holding it in.
She had to hold this against him for a few days. Otherwise he’d think she didn’t care, and it would be easier for him to slip up again in the future. Qin Mu settled on that in her heart, then raised her phone in front of her eyes. She might as well reply to him.
"I went to the hospital this morning!"
"Went to the hospital to badmouth you to Xiaohao!"
"I’m already home!"
Qin Mu deliberately replied with three messages too. Something she could have explained in one line, she split into two, especially the bit about going to see Xiaohao, just to make him nervous.
Mu Yichen really did get nervous. As soon as he saw that she’d gone to the hospital, he started to worry and was about to call her when another message came through—she’d gone to see Helian Hao. Mu Yichen shook his head, gripped his phone, and got up to leave the office.
Yang Qin was on the phone. She looked up when she heard movement, but he was already gone.
From the moment that thing happened yesterday until this afternoon, he hadn’t mentioned it with a single word. Yang Qin had no idea what he meant by that, nor did she know how things were between Mu Yichen and Qin Mu now—whether they were still mad because of that one time she sat down.
Yesterday, she had gone too far!
She should have woken Mu Yichen up right away. How could she have gone over and sat down?
A secretary, actually dreaming of climbing into her boss’s bed?
Ridiculous. After she hung up the phone, Yang Qin’s vision blurred without her realizing it. Luckily, there was no one else upstairs, so she quietly wiped away her tears.
Maybe Zhang Hongyun was right. She really was just a cheap, pathetic woman. Otherwise, why would she fall for a married man?
No matter how good he was to her, so what? He would always be extremely restrained. All his love was reserved for his wife.
Mu Yichen had made Yang Qin realize that there is such a thing as love in this world—that there is such a thing as unwavering loyalty.
Maybe... it was time for her to go.
Her grandma had been gone for a long time now. Her staying here just made her an eyesore. She believed that once she left, someone else would quickly take her place.
Yang Qin pulled out a stack of writing paper from the drawer, grabbed a pen, and wrote the three words "Letter of Resignation" across the top.
But what was she supposed to write next?
Yang Qin thought for a bit. She’d just follow the most standard format, find some random excuse, and resign. She believed that after reading it, even if Mu Yichen saw right through how fake it was, he would still sign his name without batting an eye.
In Mu Yichen’s mind, she probably should have left long ago.
On his way home, Mu Yichen passed a flower shop. He thought about it and realized the last time he sent Qin Mu flowers had been ages ago—ridiculously long. And now he was doing it again.
Mu Yichen pushed open the car door and walked into the flower shop. Looking at all the dazzling varieties inside, a shop assistant came up. "Sir, how can I help you?"
"Send every fresh flower you have in here to this address."
As he spoke, Mu Yichen pulled a business card from his pocket. The clerk took it, eyes lighting up with excitement. It did seem a bit far, but she still agreed right away.
As soon as Mu Yichen left, the clerk called the owner, and another clerk, who’d already guessed what the boss would say, started wrapping flowers in advance. After getting the go-ahead, a whole group of them bustled around, loading every single fresh flower from the big shop into their truck.
Only, when he got home and stepped into the living room, he saw a woman sitting on the carpet, one hand resting on the table, the other wrapped around her phone, elbow propped on the tabletop as she listened to someone on the other end.
He had no idea whose call she was listening to so intently that she didn’t even notice him walking up. Her expression was dazed, hollow, as if her mind was far away.
Was it his imagination? Didn’t her messages earlier mean she’d forgiven him?
He stood beside her for a while, and didn’t hear her say a single word. All he caught was a few broken bits of sound coming faintly from her phone’s receiver. He couldn’t make out what was being said, but a wave of irritation surged in his chest.
After thinking for a moment, Mu Yichen reached to her ear, and took the phone from her hand—it was warmed by her grip. Qin Mu snapped out of it and tilted her head back to look at the man’s darkened face. "When did you get back?"
