Chapter 2168: Chapter 628: One Year Later (Part 5)

But the injuries on her son, were they really caused by that brat himself?

Qin Mu’s head throbbed for a moment; she had no idea what to do.

But once the dishes and wine were served, she had no time to think about any of that. These few big brothers actually started toasting her one after another. Qin Mu was a bit stunned, yet the reasons they gave made her cooperate and raise her glass. The more she drank, the more she felt she shouldn’t, but the wine kept getting poured full, glass after glass.

"Where are you staying tonight?"

Jiang Zhiyuan suddenly leaned over and asked her in a low voice.

Qin Mu was just about to answer when, from not far away, Jing Feng said, "Of course she’s staying at the Mu Family. Even if Yichen has split up with her, Qin Mu still counts as one of the Mu Family."

"Jing Feng, we’ve already separated. How am I still one of the Mu Family?"

Qin Mu was a bit drunk, but not so far gone that she couldn’t tell right from wrong.

"You’re still the mother of those two children. And Yichen, fine, you can ignore him, but are you also going to give up on the elders at home?"

Jing Feng’s question was oddly phrased, and Qin Mu didn’t dare say anything more.

Those elders of the Mu Family—when it came down to it, how would she dare to "claim" them? She feared they no longer felt she had the right to be filial to them.

"I’m going to the restroom!"

Qin Mu suddenly felt unwell. She lifted a hand to brace herself on the edge of the table and stood up, then turned and walked out, her steps a bit unsteady.

Only then did Helian Hao shoot a glare at Jing Feng, thinking, We didn’t rehearse that line at home.

Jing Feng lowered his eyes with a faint smile, not daring to offend his wife. But when Helian Hao wanted to follow after Qin Mu, Jing Feng quietly caught her, and from the corner of his eye swept a glance to the side.

Mu Yichen’s seat was actually empty. Looking toward the door, somehow Mu Yichen had already gone out.

The two of them were really strange. There was a restroom inside the private room, and no one was using it; they just liked to run outside.

In fact, even though Qin Mu had attended quite a few social events this past year, she rarely drank. People always said you could drown your sorrows in alcohol, but she was especially restrained. Now she’d been forced to down several glasses, and maybe because she hadn’t slept well the previous night, hadn’t adjusted to the time difference, her head was now pounding for some reason.

When she reached the restroom and saw no one around, she leaned against the sink and gently pinched the bridge of her nose to ease the pain. Until she caught a familiar whiff of smoke nearby. She turned; the smell of smoke was coming from inside one of the stalls. Someone was secretly smoking in there?

Qin Mu couldn’t help walking over and lightly knocked on the door.

The door was pushed open from inside. A woman with smeared eye makeup leaned against the door, smoking and looking at her. She seemed arrogant on the surface, but the ruined eye makeup didn’t lie—she had cried, and she was hurting, so she’d hidden in the restroom to smoke.

Within two minutes, there were two little chimneys in the restroom. The two women each held a cigarette, taking drags off and on. Qin Mu glanced at the woman, then pulled two tissues from the dispenser and handed them to her.

The woman looked at her, then took the tissues in surprise. When she turned to look in the mirror, she was nearly scared to death by the "female ghost" reflected there.

Qin Mu couldn’t hold back a laugh at the sight of her, then took another deep drag on her cigarette.

The woman also gave a self-mocking laugh, then turned around and carefully wiped away the ruined makeup.

"Men, you know, they’re one way in bed and a completely different way off the bed. Don’t you think that’s how it is?"

The woman wiped at her eyes while talking to Qin Mu. The way she held the cigarette looked a bit streetwise, but also a bit... heartbreaking.

"I guess so."

Qin Mu smiled as she answered, feeling a touch of the same sentiment.

The woman gave her a longer look. "Huh? Why do you look so familiar?"

Qin Mu only smiled, then lowered her head and looked at her own feet. "My name’s Qin Mu. And you?"

"Lun Yun."

The woman said her name, then stared at Qin Mu with renewed curiosity.

Qin Mu looked up at her, and only then noticed that this woman wasn’t very old. With the ruined makeup wiped off, she looked only about twenty-five or twenty-six.

"You’re that commercial model? The fashion designer?"

Lun Yun suddenly got excited again.

"I suppose so."

Qin Mu replied with a smile.

"Wow! I really am unlucky in love today, but my luck in everything else has suddenly turned around. Can you sign something for me?"

As Lun Yun spoke, she fished a pen out of her bag.

"Sign it on my wrist. I’m going to take a picture and post it in my Moments later."

Lun Yun was a bit excited. After handing Qin Mu the pen, she pushed up the sleeve of her sweater, revealing her beautiful inner wrist for Qin Mu to sign.

Qin Mu smiled helplessly. Holding her cigarette, she gently held Lun Yun’s wrist and signed her name.

"Done! Haha! Your handwriting is really pretty too! But the strokes look like there are a lot of them. Does that mean your love life is rich and complicated?"

Lun Yun couldn’t help gossiping.

Though she didn’t really look like a girl who liked to gossip.

Qin Mu smiled faintly. "Maybe."

She’d been through quite a lot, but it had only ever been with one man. Did that count as "rich"?

"You and Mu Yichen really did get divorced, right? It’s been a year, and people are still talking about you two. Some say you’re divorced, but others insist you definitely haven’t split up."

Lun Yun kept pressing her, unwilling to let go of such a rare chance to see the real person.

Qin Mu let out a quiet laugh and looked down at her own hands.

Those slender, bare hands—wasn’t that the best answer?

Lun Yun lowered her eyes, following her gaze, and was about to ask a few more questions when her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the incoming number, hesitated, didn’t answer, then hung up and crushed her cigarette out in the nearby trash can, before rinsing her mouth and redoing her makeup.

Qin Mu noticed her tense up for a moment, but then she calmly finished touching up her makeup.

Lun Yun turned back to Qin Mu, smiled, and said, "I have to go. See you if fate allows!"

She left in a hurry, but Qin Mu was thinking about that phone number she’d glimpsed just now. She’d accidentally caught a look at it and felt it seemed familiar.

But maybe she’d seen it wrong?

Lun Yun got a fright as soon as she stepped out the door. She froze at the entrance for two seconds, then lowered her head and hurried off nervously.

Hearing Lun Yun’s sudden little scream, Qin Mu looked toward the doorway. After Lun Yun left, a thought flashed through her mind—she realized it seemed like someone had been outside the door.

Someone eavesdropping?

Or paparazzi?

At the thought of paparazzi, Qin Mu’s heart jolted, and a wary look instantly rose in her eyes.

The cigarette in her hand was still burning. She took a hard drag, then folded her free arm around the elbow of the hand holding the cigarette and slowly walked toward the door, leaning out just a little to peek outside.
