"Actually, it’s nothing!"
Chengcheng said playfully to her.
"Yeah! It’s nothing, we’re just letting Grandma know we’re safe!"
Huanhuan said with a smile.
Qin Mu thought of Feng Fanghua and believed them.
After ordering food, the two little ones looked at the night scene outside with excitement. Christmas in Paris is naturally different from back home. Huanhuan happily said, "Last year’s Christmas was boring. Mom, can we come to spend Christmas with you every year from now on?"
"Of course!"
Qin Mu was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.
"Sis, you’re so silly. Mom will go home with us soon!"
Chengcheng was a bit unsatisfied with what her sister said.
"Really?"
Huanhuan was momentarily stunned.
"Yeah! Dad came by plane to pick up Mom, you’re so silly!"
Chengcheng continued, not really sharp-tongued, but drawing the words out, which made Huanhuan a little displeased.
"You little brat, dare to call your sister silly? Don’t forget it was my idea for you to trick Mom into going back last time."
Huanhuan raised a hand to mess up Chengcheng’s hair as she spoke.
"What did you say?"
Qin Mu overheard and, shocked, asked her daughter.
Meanwhile, a tall man in a black coat entered the restaurant.
Huanhuan immediately raised her hand to cover her mouth, knowing she had slipped up.
Chengcheng, like a child who had done something wrong, let her mischievous big eyes gradually lower, pretending she wasn’t actually there.
"You two—"
"What about them?"
Just as Qin Mu was about to give them a talking-to, the words were interrupted as someone pulled out the seat next to her, and when she looked up, Mu Yichen was already seated beside her.
"Why are you here?"
"Dad!"
"Dad!"
While Qin Mu was too surprised to speak, Chengcheng and Huanhuan happily called out to Mu Yichen.
"Mhm!"
Mu Yichen softly acknowledged and then turned to Qin Mu, "What were you just trying to say?"
Qin Mu was about to question how he had found them, but his sudden question flipped a switch, and she decided not to tell him. Instead, she turned her head, scratched the back of her head, and gazed out the window: "Nothing, nothing!"
"Mom said you wouldn’t come to spend Christmas Eve with us!"
"Exactly! Mom said she wanted you to be with us on Christmas Eve!"
The two little ones answered on Qin Mu’s behalf immediately.
Mu Yichen paused, looked at his son and daughter, then smiled at the woman who didn’t dare look at him: "Really?"
"Of course not!"
Qin Mu finally dared to face him, but the awkwardness raised her tone involuntarily.
Mu Yichen just chuckled lightly.
Qin Mu gave the pair across from her a look, but the duo just kept smiling back at her as if trying to please her, making Qin Mu feel helpless.
After dinner, the two adults took the kids to play in the square. The two little ones naturally played happily, but the two adults felt listless.
Having eaten and feeling warm, Qin Mu didn’t wear her coat, draping it over her arm, with her bag slung over her shoulder, walking side by side with him.
Or rather, Mu Yichen matched her steps, walking beside her.
Snowflakes floated in the night sky, Christmas tunes played mellifluously everywhere, and the siblings chased each other around the lampposts while the two adults stood quietly by, watching.
Qin Mu suddenly felt a bit stifled, glancing at him and seeing he was watching the children, she couldn’t help but delay moving her gaze away.
"Right! Aren’t you supposed to be with Chen Xiaoyi?"
"A few minutes here won’t make a difference!"
Mu Yichen, hands in his coat pockets, explained lightly.
Qin Mu nodded at his words, thinking to herself, so the children hold an important place in his heart, and she felt much reassured.
"What about you? Them coming here didn’t mess up your original plans, did it?"
Mu Yichen looked down at her, smiling slightly as he asked.
"What plans could I have had? If you’re not free to bring them next year, feel free to send them over again, and I’ll be most grateful."
When Qin Mu finished saying "most grateful", she remembered what they did the last time she said those words to him and went silent.
The night’s scene was so beautiful that her attention was quickly drawn away when a horse-drawn carriage passed by.
Mu Yichen glanced in that direction, then asked her, "Want to ride?"
Qin Mu looked back at him, then shook her head vigorously.
Mu Yichen saw the layer of snow on her shoulders and instinctively raised his hand to brush it away, but Qin Mu, sensing something, immediately stepped to the side. Noticing what he was about to do, she quickly smiled and said, "I can do it myself!"
