Arriving at their destination, the driver turned the steering wheel and drove into a large compound holding a skyscraper building with more than 90 floors.
He hurried out and opened each side of the door.
Selene settled her feet out of the car and stood up. Dante, who’d rounded the car, walked over and stood barely next to her.
She asked, "What is this place?"
"This is my company, but also my conference building."
"Huh?"
"Half of it is my company building, and the other half is where I hold meetings with the councils of my pack. It is also where the people of my pack can come over to give complaints, make requests, or anything of the sort."
"Oh."
She nodded.
"No wonder it is so large. How rich."
Dante arched a brow of pride. "Come with me."
Beside him, Selene walked as they made it to the entrance of the building. They strolled inside and approached the elevator, stepping in to ride to the second floor.
They made it out as soon as the doors chimed open.
Dante walked out first, and Selene followed behind him. She glanced around as they
made their way down the hallway. And arriving at the meeting room, Dante stopped.
The security standing by pushed open the door and gestured inside.
Dante didn’t go in. He stepped aside first, allowing her in with a slight tip of his head.
Selene cocked a brow. "I didn’t know you were such a gentleman."
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and swallowed down his aggravation. He forced himself to ignore her and instead followed behind her.
The door was closed.
Lifting her gaze, Selene found the meeting room filled with more than 20 people, a mix of alphas, beta men, and women, all settled into their respective seats.
Immediately they all stood and bowed deep at the waist towards Dante.
"Alpha."
Dante walked past Selene and grabbed her wrist to pull her along toward the head chair. He sat her down in the seat closest to his, and then he looked at every soul within that room.
"Sit."
They settled down.
"This is her," he introduced. "Tobias’s youngest daughter."
Every one of them made a strange face towards Selene.
Selene, in return, cocked up her brow and tilted her head ever so slightly. What was with these reactions?
Dante said, "Mr. Tobias and I spoke, and we came to a mutual agreement after a long while of negotiation."
"And if I may ask, what is the end goal of this negotiation?" one of them inquired, a middle-aged man with a few streaks of gray in his hair.
Dante eyed him. "We agreed that for the sake of both our packs, we can come to peace. There is no need for unnecessary blood shed if this can be solved peacefully."
"And what is she for?" another asked, a beta woman, one of the high-ranking powers in the pack.
He relaxed back in his chair and threw one leg over the other. "She is a trust treaty."
"A trust treaty, Alpha?"
"Yes." He interlocked his hands as he responded, "Tobias gave her to me as a one-month trust deal, but of course not as some slave, and that is why I had no choice but to marry her. Now in return, her safety is mine to ensure until the contract ends. The marriage ends, and she is sent back to Tobias, completing our deal and restoring peace to both packs."
Many of the men shook their heads, purely in disagreement.
"Alpha, I don’t understand. Since when did we begin to negotiate with other packs?"
"Meaning what?" Dante questioned.
Selene eyed him, and then the council.
The man said, "We are a strong pack, if not the strongest. You’re a supreme alpha. How can we go about negotiating with other packs and opening our borders to allow them in?"
"Them? And who are you referring to?"
"Her." The man pointed. "She is not from our pack. She can’t be here. This is uncalled for."
Many others nodded their heads, agreeing.
"She has to leave."
"This is unacceptable!"
"She must leave our pack!"
"Is that not for me to decide?" Dante questioned, interrupting.
The council exchanged looks.
"Of course, Alpha." One of them spoke. "But this will only begin to make us look weak in the eyes of other packs."
"He is right, Alpha. We can’t appear weak in the eyes of other packs. They have to always have in mind that we stand at the top before any other packs."
Another chimed in, "You are a supreme alpha, and not all packs have the luck nor privilege to have a supreme alpha as their leader."
"Tobias is a supreme Alpha," Dante said calmly.
"But is he stronger than you, Alpha...?" they questioned him back.
This triggered the look in Dante’s eyes to grow awfully cold and frightening.
But oblivious to it, everyone within the room broke into an argument, discussing amongst each other to agree and disagree. The office slowly and eventually got louder and louder that even Selene hissed her breath, ears aching like it would bleed.
The alphas were unintentionally releasing their pheromones, trying to intimidate each other. Had she not been a Wild Omega, she’d have been so affected, this alone might even trigger her into a sudden heat.
In the air, there were too many types of pheromones lingering. And they were toxic.
The more they argued amongst each other, the stronger it got. However, ever so gradually, a particular pheromone began to fill the atmosphere.
It was suppressive.
It was terrifying, dominating every whiff of pheromone in the air.
The temperature in the room began to fall alongside it by many degrees, enough that they eventually noticed.
They turned their heads.
The air had gone cold, so much so that they felt chills crawl up their spine. They felt goosebumps rise on their arms, a few of them beginning to shiver with clattering teeth.
Selene was no exception. She was heavily affected as well, quickly looking towards the cause.
Dante.
The presence and the power of a supreme alpha were frightening. Their pheromones were strong enough to easily swallow and subdue a regular alpha and their pheromones. Not much to say for betas or omegas.
