Chapter 40: Chapter 40: I Have a Bold Idea

"Old Gu, hey, Old Gu! Over here..."

Just then, a voice called out from the back of the classroom.

"Hmm?"

Gu Yizhou paused for a moment.

He took a closer look and saw his university roommate, Chen Dongyuan, shouting and waving him over.

The guys sitting with him were his other roommates.

In college, your roommates are always the ones you get closest to, the ones who become your best bros.

Seeing this, Gu Yizhou smiled and walked straight toward the back of the classroom.

"Old Gu, it’s been a while! How’d you get even more handsome, you bastard!"

Chen Dongyuan said with a sour look, punching Gu Yizhou’s arm as he arrived.

"Hn, you too... are getting fatter!"

Gu Yizhou said with a perfectly straight face.

Chen Dongyuan: "..."

"Damn it."

"Ouch, right in the feels, bro!"

"Hahaha..."

Their other roommates couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

After the banter, the roommates started swapping stories about their internship experiences.

"Chen Gou, I thought you got into a major company. How is it there?"

Someone asked.

"Ugh, don’t get me started. The people there are the worst. The senior employees throw their weight around, bossing people around and running their mouths all day. If I didn’t need that damn internship stamp, I’d have walked out ages ago!"

Chen Dongyuan said with a look of disgust, as if he’d swallowed a fly.

"Huh?"

"Even the major companies are that bad? I thought it was just small-time places like mine that were full of drama!"

"I guess it’s the same everywhere!"

"Seriously. What’s the point of the university forcing us to do these useless pre-graduation internships? Who the hell is going to do this kind of work after we graduate?"

"There’s no way I’m slaving away for someone else. Not in this lifetime. I’m going to start my own company!"

"Damn, that’s the spirit! President Luo, when you’re looking for a lackey to fetch you tea, don’t forget to call me!"

"Hahaha..."

"You got it, no problem. When the time comes, you guys can all join my company. You’ll be living large with your big bro!"

...

Pretty much everyone there was complaining that their internship was just grunt work. They hadn’t learned anything, just dealt with petty nonsense all day long while putting up with condescending bosses. It was infuriating.

But as the conversation went on, the tone suddenly changed, and they couldn’t help but start boasting.

Gu Yizhou didn’t chime in. He just sat to one side with a small smile, quietly listening to his bros talk.

’College!’

’Our four years here are almost over. We’ve all formed a deep friendship in that time.’

’It’s truly something to be nostalgic about.’

Gu Yizhou thought to himself.

While he was zoning out, Chen Dongyuan noticed he’d been quiet. Worried that Gu Yizhou felt left out, he spoke up, "Hey, Old Gu, I remember you’re at a huge corporation, right? So, what’s it like? Are the people easy to get along with?"

At this, everyone else turned to look at Gu Yizhou.

That’s right.

When it came to their internships, Gu Yizhou’s was definitely the best.

What could you do?

Each of them had landed their internship position through their own interviews.

The Tidal Group, where Gu Yizhou was interning, had been one of the companies at the campus recruitment fair. However, their hiring standards were incredibly demanding, and they had a strict limit on how many people they hired.

It was just how things were.

After all, they were a massive corporation worth hundreds of billions.

It was only natural for them to be demanding.

And Gu Yizhou had fought his way through hordes of other applicants at the job fair to come out on top.

In the end!

Tidal Group only accepted one person from the entire Modu University of Finance and Economics.

And that was Gu Yizhou.

What could you do?

Gu Yizhou was just that exceptional. On top of that, he was so handsome he could have debuted as a star on the spot.

Who else could they have possibly chosen?

But Gu Yizhou had no interest in the life of a celebrity—a life with no personal freedom, no privacy, where you were constantly gawked at like an animal in a zoo.

He just wanted to live a quiet, simple life.

That was why, even back when he was dirt poor and desperate for money, he had rejected every single offer from the numerous talent scouts and media companies that had reached out to him.

As for now, becoming some kind of celebrity was even more out of the question.

After all, he wasn’t going to be short on money anytime soon.

’Raking in 260,000 a day? As if I’d ever be short on cash again!’

’Not to mention, I have this system to back me up...’

"Old Gu? Hey, Old Gu...???"

"Hmm?"

Hearing the calls, Gu Yizhou turned and gave Chen Dongyuan a blank look.

"What’s up?"

He asked casually.

Everyone: "..."

Seeing that Gu Yizhou hadn’t heard a single word he’d said, Chen Dongyuan’s face darkened.

He couldn’t stop himself from giving Gu Yizhou a massive eye-roll. "I just asked you what Tidal Group is like," he said, annoyed. "Are your colleagues easy to get along with?"

"Oh, it’s alright."

Gu Yizhou nodded.

"That’s it?"

Chen Dongyuan glared at him.

"Yeah. What more do you want?"

"Oh, right!"

He thought for a moment before adding, "I can’t speak for the other departments, but in mine, everyone gets along really well. We have a good relationship outside of work, too. There’s none of that hazing-the-new-guy stuff."

Hearing this, everyone looked at him with envy.

"Hey, by the way!"

"I heard the CEO, Yan Luoxi, is a total knockout, with a reputation for being an ’Ice Queen.’ Old Gu, have you ever seen her?"

Luo Siwen asked Gu Yizhou.

As soon as he said this, everyone’s eyes lit up.

They all immediately turned their gazes back to Gu Yizhou.

The mere mention of a beautiful woman got all the guys as hyped as if they’d taken a shot of adrenaline.

Gu Yizhou was left speechless by the suggestive looks on his roommates’ faces.

’These animals. It’s like they’ve never seen a woman before.’

He shook his head in resignation. "Haven’t seen her. I have no idea what she looks like, though I hear she’s gorgeous. If you guys are that interested, there are photos online, aren’t there? Just look her up."

"Seriously?"

"Are you kidding?"

"Old Gu, you’ve been at Tidal Group all this time and you still haven’t seen your own CEO?"

The group all spoke up at once.

"Uh..."

"Hey, guys, I’m just a lowly intern in the finance department at Tidal Group. It’s totally normal for someone at my level to have never seen her!"

"Do you really think I’m some big-shot executive who can get a meeting with the CEO just like that?"

Gu Yizhou said with a helpless shrug.

"Fair enough."

Hearing his explanation, the guys figured he had a point, so they dropped the subject of him not having met his own CEO.

"Hey, guys, I just had a crazy idea!"

Chen Dongyuan suddenly exclaimed.

In an instant, all eyes were on him...
