Chapter 2542: Story 2543: The Eighth Shadow

Darkness swallowed the heavens.

The stars disappeared one after another as though they had never existed. The moon faded behind an endless veil of black, leaving only the golden radiance of the Crown of the Black Star and the silver light of the Seven Guardians to challenge the growing abyss.

Behind Kaelor, the colossal form of the Endless Shadow continued to rise.

Its body had no fixed shape.

Mountains, storms, and oceans seemed to dissolve into its living darkness. Countless crimson eyes opened across its shifting form, each staring in a different direction, each seeing every soul upon the battlefield.

No one could escape its gaze.

Victoria Kane felt the Crown grow warm upon her head.

The Dawnblade vibrated softly, not from fear, but from recognition.

Arkanis stepped forward as far as his ancient prison allowed.

For the first time since awakening, his voice carried both sorrow and determination.

"Nox’Rath..."

"...you have crossed the boundary."

The living darkness laughed.

It was not a sound.

It was the echo of every nightmare ever dreamed.

"You remember my true name."

"How touching."

The Seven Guardians instinctively formed a great circle around Blackstone Ridge.

Silver pillars of light rose from each of them, connecting together high above the battlefield.

A radiant dome spread across the summit.

The Last Sentinel struck his mighty hammer against the earth.

"The Circle of First Light!"

Golden energy erupted from the Heart Forge beneath the mountain, joining the silver barrier.

For one brief moment...

The darkness stopped advancing.

Nox’Rath turned countless crimson eyes toward the glowing shield.

"Still clinging to old miracles?"

Without warning, dozens of enormous shadow tendrils erupted from its body.

They crashed against the barrier.

BOOM!

The impact shook continents.

The silver dome held.

But hairline cracks spread across its surface.

Commander Selene Voss steadied herself against the shockwave.

"If that shield breaks..."

Dr. Evelyn Brooks finished the sentence.

"...the world dies."

Nearby, Kaelor remained frozen in agony.

The Endless Darkness still clung to his soul.

His enormous hands trembled as he struggled against the corruption consuming him.

Victoria looked toward him.

"He isn’t attacking."

Roland Thorne nodded.

"He’s fighting it."

Cole Mercer gripped his glowing rifle.

"Then let’s give him something worth fighting for."

Victoria smiled.

"Exactly."

She raised the Dawnblade high above her head.

The Crown answered immediately.

Thirteen golden rays spread across the battlefield, touching every defender, every Guardian, and even the wounded survivors resting behind the lines.

Their hopes united.

Their courage became one.

The Dawnblade transformed again.

Its white blade lengthened into a brilliant spear of living light.

Golden wings unfolded behind Victoria, stretching across the summit like the wings of dawn itself.

The Last Sentinel bowed his head.

"The First Dawn has returned."

Even Arkanis stared in silent wonder.

"The Light has chosen its true form."

Nox’Rath’s countless eyes narrowed.

For the first time...

The Endless Shadow hesitated.

"Impossible."

"That power was extinguished before your stars were born."

Victoria stepped into the air, supported by radiant wings of light.

She pointed the transformed Dawnblade toward the darkness.

"My power isn’t ancient."

"It isn’t mine."

"It belongs to everyone who still believes tomorrow is worth fighting for."

Thousands of defenders raised their weapons.

The Seven Guardians lifted their ancient arms.

Even the Hollow King watched in stunned silence.

Then something unexpected happened.

Kaelor slowly opened his hand.

A tiny spark of golden light appeared within his enormous palm.

It was small.

Fragile.

Barely visible against the endless darkness surrounding him.

Yet Arkanis smiled.

"My brother..."

"...you remember."

Nox’Rath let out a furious roar as black flames erupted across the sky.

The tiny spark in Kaelor’s hand had become the first light the Endless Darkness had failed to extinguish in countless ages.

And that single spark was enough to begin turning the tide of the final war.
