Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition
Chapter 2577: Story 2578: The First ChoiceThe Gate of Origin exploded with golden light.
Thousands of unborn stars awakened within their transparent spheres, each one carrying the possibility of an entire world.
For a moment, everything was silent.
Then the Void attacked.
Black tendrils surged through the golden gateways, twisting between newborn stars like serpents searching for something to consume.
Victoria Kane raised the Dawnblade.
"Protect the possibilities!"
The seven ancient guardians moved instantly.
Arkon charged first, his enormous sword cutting through a wave of darkness.
Seraphine raised her crystal bowl, sending streams of compassion through the battlefield.
Thalen’s arrows became brilliant stars that illuminated the Void.
Ordan planted his shield before the Gate.
Elara moved like lightning, slicing apart every tendril that reached the unborn worlds.
Malachor watched the shifting battlefield carefully.
"Do not attack everything."
Victoria looked at him.
"What do you see?"
"The Void isn’t trying to destroy the Gate."
He pointed toward the center.
"It’s searching for one specific possibility."
Victoria’s expression hardened.
"Which one?"
Before Malachor could answer, Lyra suddenly gasped.
She pointed toward a distant golden sphere.
"That one."
Inside it floated a tiny blue world.
Victoria stared at it.
"What makes it different?"
Lyra’s eyes filled with golden light.
"It hasn’t been chosen yet."
The First Creator appeared beside them.
"That world contains a possibility the Void fears."
Victoria stepped closer.
"What possibility?"
The Creator looked toward the unborn world.
"A civilization capable of choosing without being guided by fear."
The Void screamed.
"NO!"
Every black tendril turned toward the blue sphere.
Victoria understood immediately.
"They want to erase it before it exists."
She spread her golden wings.
"Then we protect it."
Above Asterion, the merged black sphere cracked completely.
Seven enormous Void creatures emerged.
The ancient guardians looked upward.
Nox’Rath spread his silver wings.
"Victoria!"
Her voice answered through the Heart.
"Hold them!"
"We will."
The seven Void creatures descended.
Azrakar charged into the first.
The First Hunger confronted another.
Valerius raised his crimson spear against a third.
Cassian and the Asterion guardians fought beneath them.
The city became a battlefield of golden and black light.
Yet one Void creature slipped through.
It moved toward the Gate of Origin.
Lyra saw it.
"I’ll stop it."
Victoria grabbed her arm.
"No."
Lyra looked at her.
"I am the First Key."
"Exactly."
Victoria smiled.
"Then you have to open the door."
Lyra understood.
She turned toward the Gate.
The seven symbols appeared around her.
Courage.
Compassion.
Hope.
Sacrifice.
Freedom.
Wisdom.
Memory.
Lyra placed her hand against the center.
"I choose life."
The Gate responded.
A massive golden wave erupted.
The Void creature was thrown backward.
The unborn blue world began glowing brighter.
Inside it, the first living creature opened its eyes.
For the first time...
A world had chosen itself.
The Void screamed in agony.
The First Creator looked toward Victoria.
"The First Choice has been made."
Victoria raised the Dawnblade.
"And it won’t be the last."
Suddenly, thousands of unborn stars began awakening.
Each one released a different color of light.
The Void started retreating.
But before disappearing, one black tendril wrapped around a single golden sphere.
A whisper crossed the realm.
"If we cannot erase possibility..."
The sphere vanished into darkness.
"...we will corrupt it."
Victoria’s eyes widened.
"Where did it go?"
The First Creator remained silent.
Lyra looked toward the darkness.
"It took one."
Nox’Rath suddenly appeared beside Victoria.
His expression was grim.
"Not just any world."
Victoria turned.
"Which one?"
Nox’Rath stared into the void.
"The world where the First Dawn was originally born."
The Gate of Origin trembled.
A distant golden star suddenly turned crimson.
And from within it...
Something awakened.
Victoria tightened her grip on the Dawnblade.
The battle had changed.
They were no longer protecting the future.
They were racing toward the birthplace of the Dawn itself.
