Chapter 2586: Story 2587: The Final Test

The massive black door hovered above Asterion.

Seven ancient symbols burned across its surface.

Courage.

Compassion.

Hope.

Sacrifice.

Freedom.

Wisdom.

Memory.

The laughter behind the door grew louder.

Victoria Kane stood beneath it, Dawnblade glowing in her hands.

The Witness watched silently.

"What is behind that door?" Victoria asked.

The Witness answered,

"Your final test."

Victoria frowned.

"That’s not an answer."

The Witness’s golden eye opened.

"Because you already know."

The door suddenly opened.

A wave of darkness swept across Asterion.

Everyone froze.

Victoria saw herself.

But not as she was.

The other Victoria wore a black crown.

Her golden wings were covered in crimson flames.

The Dawnblade in her hand had become a weapon of destruction.

Cole saw himself standing alone among countless bodies.

Evelyn saw herself ruling every civilization through knowledge.

Nox’Rath saw the Endless Shadow consuming the universe again.

Valerius saw himself returning to the Crimson Throne.

Lyra saw herself becoming the key that opened the Gate of Origin.

Each vision showed them their darkest possibility.

The voice behind the door spoke.

"This is what you become when no one can stop you."

Victoria stared at her dark reflection.

"What do you want?"

"Choose."

The black door expanded.

Two pathways appeared.

One was golden.

The other was crimson.

The golden path led toward absolute peace.

No war.

No suffering.

No death.

The crimson path led toward freedom.

Pain.

Risk.

Loss.

Choice.

The voice spoke again.

"Choose perfection."

Victoria looked toward the golden path.

Everything was beautiful.

Everyone she loved was safe.

No one could hurt anyone.

She took one step.

Then stopped.

Lyra looked at her.

"Victoria?"

Victoria closed her eyes.

"Peace without freedom isn’t peace."

She turned away.

The golden path shattered.

The darkness screamed.

"Then choose freedom."

Victoria walked toward the crimson path.

Immediately, the visions changed.

People suffered.

Worlds fell.

Loved ones died.

The Dawn flickered.

Victoria’s heart broke.

But she continued.

"I choose freedom."

The seven successors stepped beside her.

One after another, they accepted their own darkest possibilities.

Cole accepted that he could fail.

Evelyn accepted that knowledge could cause harm.

Nox’Rath accepted his past without becoming it.

Valerius accepted responsibility for his ancient crimes.

Lyra accepted that she could be used as a key but still possessed the power to choose.

Dawn looked toward Victoria.

"And you?"

Victoria raised the Dawnblade.

"I accept that I cannot save everyone."

The darkness became silent.

"But I’ll never stop trying."

The seven symbols on the blade erupted.

Courage.

Compassion.

Hope.

Sacrifice.

Freedom.

Wisdom.

Memory.

The black door began cracking.

The Witness spoke.

"The final test was never about choosing light over darkness."

Victoria looked upward.

"Then what was it?"

"Accepting that both exist within you."

The door shattered.

Behind it stood no monster.

No god.

No Void.

Only a mirror.

Victoria stared at her reflection.

Her dark self stepped out.

"I am you."

Victoria nodded.

"I know."

The shadow raised its weapon.

"If you destroy me, you destroy part of yourself."

Victoria lowered the Dawnblade.

"I won’t destroy you."

The shadow froze.

"I’ll understand you."

Victoria stepped forward.

The two versions touched hands.

Golden and black energy merged.

The darkness transformed into silver light.

Across Asterion, every shadow disappeared.

The Witness smiled.

"The final test is complete."

But suddenly, the sky cracked.

A voice echoed from beyond creation.

"You passed."

Victoria looked upward.

"Now face the consequence of succeeding."

The stars went dark.

And something enormous began descending toward Asterion.

The Witness whispered,

"The true enemy has finally noticed you."
