Chapter 2588: Story 2589: The First Author

The universe became silent.

Not peaceful.

Silent.

Every star stopped shining.

Every forgotten world froze.

Even the Seven Voids ceased moving.

Victoria Kane stared through the white gateway at the figure seated upon the endless throne.

The First Author.

No weapon rested in its hands.

No crown adorned its head.

Yet every reality seemed to bend around its presence.

The Witness lowered its enormous head.

"You should not have awakened."

The First Author looked toward it.

"You should not have remembered."

The Witness trembled.

Victoria stepped forward.

"Why did you create the tests?"

The First Author’s eyes moved toward her.

"I did not create them."

Victoria frowned.

"Then who did?"

The Author pointed toward the countless worlds.

"Creation created them."

Evelyn stared in confusion.

"What does that mean?"

The First Author answered,

"Every world that feared destruction created a test for the next world."

"Every civilization added a rule."

"Every failure added another."

"Eventually, those rules became the Seven Tests."

Victoria looked at the Witness.

"So you weren’t judging us."

The Witness slowly nodded.

"I was remembering you."

The First Author stood.

The white throne disappeared.

Suddenly, the figure appeared before Victoria.

Cole raised his rifle.

Victoria lifted one hand.

"Wait."

The Author looked at the Dawnblade.

"You carry the Living Dawn."

Victoria nodded.

"Yes."

"Then you carry the greatest mistake creation ever made."

The Dawnblade flickered.

Victoria’s expression hardened.

"What mistake?"

The Author touched the blade.

A vision appeared.

Victoria saw the beginning.

A single light existed in an empty universe.

Then another.

And another.

The first worlds were born.

But something went wrong.

Every new world tried to become perfect.

Every civilization feared death.

Every creator feared failure.

And slowly, creation began eliminating anything unpredictable.

The vision ended.

Victoria whispered,

"Perfection."

The First Author nodded.

"Creation tried to remove uncertainty."

Dawn stepped forward.

"And created the Void."

"Yes."

Nox’Rath’s eyes narrowed.

"So the Void wasn’t born to destroy creation."

The Author looked toward him.

"It was born to make creation predictable."

Victoria understood.

"The Void erases possibility because possibility is unpredictable."

"Exactly."

Lyra stepped forward.

"Then why did you remain silent?"

The First Author looked at her.

For the first time, sadness appeared in its eyes.

"Because I made the same mistake."

Everyone became still.

Victoria stared.

"You?"

The Author nodded.

"I believed creation needed a single guiding hand."

The Dawnblade began glowing.

"I believed I knew what was best."

Victoria slowly lowered her weapon.

"You wanted control."

"Yes."

"And now?"

The First Author looked across the infinite worlds.

"Now I want to see what creation chooses without me."

Suddenly, the white gateway began collapsing.

The One Beyond Creation screamed from behind them.

"NO!"

Its enormous form surged forward.

The First Author turned.

"You were my final mistake."

The One Beyond Creation recoiled.

Victoria looked at the Author.

"What happens now?"

The First Author smiled.

"Now I give you the one thing I never gave creation."

The throne vanished completely.

The Author raised one hand.

Every golden gateway across existence opened.

Thousands of worlds appeared.

Millions of possibilities.

No commands.

No rules.

No predetermined destiny.

Only choice.

The First Author looked at Victoria.

"The future belongs to those who choose it."

Then its body began dissolving into countless stars.

Victoria reached forward.

"Wait!"

The Author smiled.

"You don’t need an author anymore."

It disappeared.

Silence followed.

Then the Living Dawn inside Victoria’s heart erupted.

The One Beyond Creation screamed.

"WITHOUT THE AUTHOR, CREATION WILL FALL!"

Victoria raised the Dawnblade.

"No."

Lyra stood beside her.

"We’ll build it together."

The seven successors raised their weapons.

The Witness opened its golden eye.

Dawn spread his wings.

Nox’Rath summoned the silver shadows.

And across every universe...

the first truly free dawn began.

But deep beyond the last star, a single black page appeared.

Upon it, one sentence slowly formed:
