Chapter 2622: Story 2623: The Throne BelowLena descended the ancient staircase alone.
Each step echoed through the darkness.
Above her, the battle for the First Kingdom continued. Steel clashed against steel, rifles thundered, and Veyr’s transformed voice echoed through the palace.
But beneath the throne, everything was silent.
Lena reached the bottom.
A vast chamber opened before her.
At its center stood a circular pool filled with dark red liquid. Ancient chains stretched from the walls and disappeared beneath the surface.
Lena stared at the pool.
“Why did you call me?”
The liquid began moving.
Ripples spread across its surface.
Then a woman’s voice answered.
“Because you are the door.”
Lena stepped backward.
“Who are you?”
A figure slowly appeared within the red liquid.
An ancient woman wearing a crown of silver bones.
Her body was translucent, almost like a reflection.
“I am Queen Elara.”
Lena’s eyes widened.
“The queen of the First Kingdom?”
Elara nodded.
“And the mother of the bloodline.”
Lena looked at her own hands.
“Why me?”
“Because your blood carries the command.”
Lena shook her head.
“I don’t want it.”
Elara’s expression softened.
“Neither did your ancestors.”
Suddenly, the chamber shook.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
A distant roar echoed from above.
Lena turned toward the staircase.
“Kael.”
Elara spoke quietly.
“He is fighting the creator.”
“Veyr?”
“Yes.”
Lena’s eyes darkened.
“Then I have to help him.”
“You cannot.”
“Why?”
“Because Veyr is no longer the greatest danger.”
The pool suddenly turned black.
A massive shadow appeared beneath the surface.
Lena froze.
“What is that?”
“The First Origin.”
The shadow moved closer.
“It has found a path into this chamber.”
Lena stepped backward.
“But the king imprisoned it.”
“The king imprisoned its body.”
Elara looked toward the ceiling.
“Not its blood.”
A black vein suddenly appeared across Lena’s wrist.
She cried out and fell to one knee.
The vein moved rapidly toward her shoulder.
“No!”
Elara raised her hand.
“Fight it.”
Lena gritted her teeth.
“I can’t!”
“You are the Heir.”
The red crystal on Lena’s wrist began glowing.
“Your blood does not belong to the dead.”
Lena looked at the pool.
“It belongs to me.”
The black vein stopped.
For a moment, everything became still.
Then Lena stood.
The red glow spread across her body.
The shadow beneath the pool recoiled.
Above them, a tremendous explosion shook the palace.
Kael’s voice echoed faintly.
“Lena!”
She looked upward.
“I have to go.”
Elara smiled.
“Then take this.”
A small silver symbol appeared on Lena’s palm.
“What is it?”
“The seal of the queen.”
“What will it do?”
“Remind the dead who they truly serve.”
Lena closed her hand.
Suddenly, the chamber doors exploded open.
A massive creature entered.
It wore ancient armor and carried a giant axe.
Its eyes burned crimson.
Lena raised her hand.
“Stop.”
The creature froze.
It slowly dropped to one knee.
“Your command, Heir.”
Lena stared at it in disbelief.
Then she heard another voice.
This one was deeper.
Older.
Angrier.
“YOU CANNOT COMMAND WHAT BELONGS TO ME.”
The pool erupted.
A gigantic black hand burst from the red liquid.
Elara screamed.
“Run!”
Lena turned toward the stairs.
But the hand struck the floor before her.
The chamber began collapsing.
Lena raised her glowing palm.
“Not today.”
A wave of red energy exploded from her body.
The ancient chains snapped.
The shadow beneath the pool roared.
And far above, Kael suddenly felt his blood burn.
He stopped fighting.
“Lena...”
Veyr smiled.
“What happened?”
Kael looked toward the floor.
“She awakened.”
Veyr’s smile disappeared.
“No.”
The palace trembled.
Kael raised his sword.
“She awakened herself.”
And beneath the throne, the Heir of the Dead opened her eyes.
They were no longer black.
They were burning red.
