Revelof swallowed hard. Just fighting the Grand Apostle until now had already left his mind and body exhausted.
And right now the Grand Apostle was surrounded by dark energy, showing signs as if about to awaken.
'There's really a second phase?'
Revelof let out a low sigh. He could feel his probability of survival gradually decreasing. On top of that, the holy power remaining after fighting the Grand Apostle had already been considerably depleted.
'Even just flying like this consumes an enormous amount of power.'
Of course, that didn't mean he could give up the flight ability he had painstakingly acquired through holy relics. Even at this level of being pushed back, if he lost the sky he wouldn't even be able to resist. The problem was the rate of holy power escaping in real time.
'Ten minutes at most...... five minutes at the least.'
Revelof objectively assessed the time given to him. Even calculating the total holy power remaining, that was all he had.
While he was lost in thought, the Grand Apostle had by now covered their entire body in dark energy. It had increased to nearly double the energy felt until just before.
'......If luck is against me, I could die within a minute.'
Everything he had been deliberating on had become useless.
Revelof sensed his own death. And in a moment like this, he also felt a little resentment toward Kyros, who had nothing to say.
'I suppose it's because things have diverged too much from the original.'
In the original, Kyros would always squeeze out his power or do something of that nature whenever Revelof was in danger.
But the current Kyros was excessively quiet. So quiet that Revelof wasn't even sure he was watching.
Revelof let out a snort. Facing what felt like death, laughter was all that came out.
'At the very least, I wanted to protect my family.'
Regrettably, it seemed that was difficult. Revelof let out a low breath and put force into the hand gripping the white holy sword.
'Can't be helped.'
Let's do everything I can while I still can. The moment Revelof thought that, the Grand Apostle vanished before his eyes. Revelof immediately turned his body around.
Clang—!
The Grand Apostle's hand, as sharp as a blade, was blocked by Revelof's holy sword. Revelof's eyes went wide.
'If I hadn't blocked that, I would have died.'
The Grand Apostle put force into the blade of their hand and pushed Revelof back. Forced back by that immense power, Revelof stumbled. And the Grand Apostle didn't miss the opening created as Revelof was pushed back and his stance broke.
Whoosh—!
The Grand Apostle rushed directly at Revelof. Revelof recognized that he couldn't dodge this attack. And so, he closed his eyes.
'Damn it, that it would come to this......'
Various choices came to Revelof's mind as regrets. That he had been too careless, that he hadn't thought of the hidden route variables—everything.
But right at that moment—
Whoosh—!
A golden flash flew toward the Grand Apostle. The Grand Apostle felt a chilling energy course through their body and immediately retreated. The golden flash grazed the Grand Apostle's hair and missed.
As the Grand Apostle backed away, Revelof opened his eyes. The attack aimed at him had not continued, and a new energy had appeared. And that power was something Revelof knew well.
'This is......'
Revelof immediately turned his head to search for the source of that power. And there, hovering in the air, was a woman with light green hair swaying in the wind and golden eyes full of killing intent.
"Brat."
It was the Archmage, Jenna Lewis.
She fixed her gaze on the Grand Apostle and spoke to Revelof.
"This thing reeking of filth all over will be hard for you to handle alone. So I'll give you a hand."
At Jenna's appearance, the Grand Apostle tilted their head sideways. While the Grand Apostle observed Jenna as if studying her, Revelof's eyes widened slightly.
'......I'm alive.'
The Grand Apostle's power was still considerable—but with Jenna Lewis, this was a fight worth having. There were still factors of uncertainty, but having caught his breath from the immediate crisis, Revelof felt a measure of relief.
"You rest for a moment."
Jenna reached her hand out lightly toward Revelof, who looked deeply exhausted. At that, golden energy stretched from her and flew toward Revelof.
The golden energy transformed into a sphere and protected Revelof. And Revelof, enveloped in the golden energy, soon felt his power quickly recovering within it.
'This is...... healing power?'
At a glance it seemed to combine healing—but that didn't seem quite right. The wounds on Revelof's body weren't healing. But he could feel holy power gradually filling up throughout his body.
'Ah, this is magic power recovery.'
A mage's magic power was, for a priest, holy power. Magic power and holy power were similar in quality, differing only in source—and so it was possible to assist in holy power recovery as well.
"Thank you, Archmage."
Revelof expressed his gratitude toward Jenna. And Jenna gave him only a brief nod before wrapping her whole body in golden energy.
"Come at me, vermin."
Jenna said to the Grand Apostle with a grin. Simultaneously the Grand Apostle charged at Jenna.
Boom!
But they were blocked by a quickly created golden wall. Jenna immediately reached her hand toward the golden wall. Then a giant hand shot from the wall and seized the Grand Apostle.
"Got you."
Boom, boom!
Simultaneously with Jenna's words, several more golden walls were created. Then they enclosed the Grand Apostle like a cage. And Jenna extended both hands toward the cage.
Crunch—!
The cage warped and gradually contracted. For a moment, Revelof felt the Grand Apostle's energy diminish. But that too was brief.
Rumble!
The shrinking cage grew large again, and the Grand Apostle thrust both arms out and broke free.
"Ho, quite a force."
Even at Jenna's words, the Grand Apostle looked at her blankly. Then gave a light nod of the head. And then the Grand Apostle moved rapidly, disappearing. The place they reappeared was behind Jenna.
"Archmage, behind you!"
"What......?!"
Stab—!
The Grand Apostle's arm pierced through Jenna's body. Revelof's eyes went wide in disbelief.
'This can't be......'
Even the Archmage can't win? If so, it meant they were finished. Just as the shock wasn't easily leaving Revelof—
He noticed that the Grand Apostle couldn't pull their arm out of Jenna's body.
"You're fast."
And Jenna Lewis reappeared. The place she appeared was directly behind the Grand Apostle. The Jenna whose body the Grand Apostle had pierced was nothing but a golden silhouette.
The silhouette looked like Jenna's doppelganger, but it contained a power strong enough that the Grand Apostle couldn't break free.
"Now, it's time to return to your god."
Jenna created a golden spear. And she rushed at the Grand Apostle struggling to break free from her doppelganger.
Stab—!
The golden spear pierced through the Grand Apostle's body. The Grand Apostle's struggling stopped. But they only writhed in pain; their breath didn't stop.
"My, they can withstand this?"
Jenna swept her hair back in disbelief. Watching that, Revelof opened his mouth.
"Archmage, it seems...... that's something I need to do."
"What?"
"Because Lord Kyros's power and Diego's power are opposing forces."
Revelof gathered holy power from within his body. And then, once again transformed the mace he was holding into a holy sword.
"Now...... it's time to finish this."
While Revelof and Jenna were battling the Grand Apostle, each of the officers was also engaged in fierce combat.
Terdius's sword and the First Apostle's sword clashed. From the intense shockwave, the First Apostle's hood was knocked off.
And the revealed appearance was that of a man who looked to be in his late twenties at most.
Black hair neatly tied reaching the waist, and a handsome young man wearing an eye patch over his left eye. That was the identity of the First Apostle, Jaken.
"Well, still strong."
First Apostle Jaken spoke to Terdius with casual ease. Terdius gave him no reply and pressed hard against him.
He was of a mind to end the fight as quickly as possible.
"Being so impatient...... then there's no choice."
Jaken fell back while removing his eye patch. And from beneath it, a blackened skin and a black iris were revealed. A sight grotesque enough to look as if the left eye and part of the skin had become necrotic.
But Terdius paid it no mind. However, the next moment, a viper-yellow light formed in Jaken's black pupil.
"That power......!"
Terdius said with wide eyes. At that, the corner of Jaken's mouth curved up.
"Now you understand why I am the First Apostle."
"......Don't tell me."
"Yes. That's right. This eye is...... the power Lord Diego personally bestowed upon me."
With those words, Jaken's entire body began to be stained black.
At the same time, Helena Holden and the Second Apostle's battle continued. The Second Apostle, unusually, fought with a red ribbon.
Whoosh—!
The ribbon the Second Apostle launched coiled around Helena's sword. But Helena didn't yield and cut the ribbon apart.
Yet no matter how many times the ribbon was cut, it didn't shorten—instead only its number multiplied.
"What a troublesome ability."
"What? My ribbon is troublesome?!"
The Second Apostle snapped back sharply. And launched the ribbon again. Helena lightly jumped to dodge it. And simultaneously, Helena launched a sword wave.
Whoosh—!
The Second Apostle ducked their body quickly to dodge the sword wave. But the speed was considerable, and the hood they had on was knocked off.
"Hmm?"
Helena was a little surprised at the Second Apostle's revealed identity. Because the Second Apostle looked like nothing more than a girl in her mid-teens.
A girl with pink hair tied in twin tails, quite cute-looking.
"You still seem quite young...... to be under the grip of an Evil God."
Helena said with a tone of pity. It was a feeling befitting a parent with a daughter.
"I'm not under any grip! I serve Lord Diego who accepted me!"
"Do your parents know that?"
Helena dodged the ribbon the Second Apostle launched and asked. At that, the Second Apostle bristled.
"I don't have parents!"
Confirming that the Second Apostle had shown emotion, a smile formed on Helena's lips.
While the fierce battles of First Apostle and Terdius, Second Apostle and Helena Holden continued —
On one side of the battlefield there were two other people in intense combat. The battle that still hadn't ended belonged to Rawin and Khalid.
"My, my. Seventh Apostle, I thought you'd gotten quite strong—but this is all you've got."
Khalid casually dealt with Rawin's sword and kept provoking him. Rawin tried not to fall for his provocations, but looking at Khalid's brazen face made his blood boil.
"Still just a fledgling, Seventh Apostle."
"I am no longer an apostle!"
Thwack!
Rawin swung his leg hard and struck Khalid's abdomen. But his leg was caught in Khalid's hand.
