Chapter 125: Chap.122 - Gringotts

Inside Gringotts, Calypso looked left and right again at the goblins, though most of them ignored her, continuing with their work.

The goblins in this world weren't as diminutive as in the movies, instead, they were about a head shorter than humans, stockier, with long fingers, pointed ears, and pointed beards, dark, intelligent faces, and dome-shaped heads.

Although they were still not visually appealing, they seemed much more agile.

Calypso and Rigel went straight to the end of the corridor, where a Goblin sat at the highest table. He was writing something down, but stopped and looked at them when he noticed them, looking first at Rigel. "Mr. Black, I believe you have your own account manager."

Rigel nodded, but then pointed to Calypso. "She wants to open an account, as well as exchange gold and jewels for galleons."

The elderly goblin chief raised an eyebrow, looking at Calypso. "And you would be?"

"Calypso, Calypso Valliere." Calypso introduced herself, looking at the goblin with evident curiosity.

The goblin was somewhat speechless at Calypso's gaze. He had long been accustomed to the looks of wizards, but Calypso's gaze seemed completely free of inherent prejudice or veiled respect, even on the faces of young wizards, except for Muggle-borns.

But considering Calypso's age, it was impossible to tell that she was a witch who had never seen a Goblin.

The Goblin leader was already quite old and had seen all sorts of wizards, he hadn't been so grumpy in his youth, but the wizards' idiotic questions had tired him to the point that wearing a cold face had become standard practice at Gringotts.

Shaking his head slightly, the boss spoke. "Very well."

He picked up a bell and rang it, soon a goblin came to them, the chief said something in a low voice and the goblin nodded.

The goblin chief turned to them and spoke. "Follow him, he'll take you to your manager. You can have Miss Valliere open an account with him as well, if that's convenient."

It was a statement, but there was an underlying question, although it was a bit insidious of the old Goblin to make it so obvious, if Rigel denied it now, it would mean he didn't want to associate with Calypso, and it would also show the Goblins how close the "Blacks" were to her.

Well, currently only Rigel remains to be seen, the others are either behind bars or have changed their names, at least those that are left.

"So be it, I need to make a trade too." Rigel shrugged.

Calypso raised an eyebrow, she too understood the implication. Laughing lightly, she gripped Rigel's arm a little tighter. Although she had expected this response, Rigel's direct words still pleased her.

Rigel, on the other hand, realized that there were no more covetous wizards around, so he wanted to push Calypso away, but feeling the grip tighten, he gave up, it wasn't worth arguing now.

The Blacks' account manager was an old Goblin named Bromir.

He had his own office at Gringotts, something only the most experienced and erudite employees, who had dedicated their lives to Gringotts, could have.

These Goblins were usually given the oldest and richest vaults to look after, such as that of the Black family.

Bromir nodded to Rigel professionally as soon as he saw him, the relationship between them was purely business, whether it was Rigel or Bromir, both preferred it that way.

Calypso stared at the goblin just as she stared at the others, but Bromir pretended not to notice.

Instead, he had already been informed by another Goblin that Calypso wanted to exchange galleons and open an account.

"Lady Calypso, may I ask, what would be the value of your conversion need?" Bromir asked, looking at the woman.

Calypso smiled, pulling several pounds of gold and jewels from her bag.

Bromir looked at the items, quiet for a moment, his crossed hands now a little tighter.

Although this was far from the accumulated wealth of the richest vaults in Gringotts, the conversion did have a commission, and that commission went to the Goblin in charge.

In other words, Bromir.

Bromir had to control his old face to avoid smiling like a pirate who had won a pint of rum.

There were about 30 kilograms of gold there, which would be worth around 70,000 galleons.

The precious stones were even more expensive, there were colored diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, some as small as quail eggs, others as large as baseballs.

Precious stones that were useful to goblins and even wizards were far more useful to Muggles, especially if they could conduct magic.

Bromir wasted no time, taking a metallic instrument from his drawer that looked like a thick pen, placing the tip on each one. The pen vibrated at different intensities for each one, but Bromir's eyes grew more and more excited.

Bromir took a deep breath, looking at Rigel and Calypso with a certain hidden greed, but he didn't plan to attack them, instead, he was thinking about how to get the best deal.

"The gold alone is worth about 70,000 galleons, the precious stones... it's hard to say, they all carry magic, although to varying degrees. To be honest, few people would be interested in this, mostly alchemists, those guys would pay an absurd price for each one. So here's my proposal. I can help sell these stones at auctions around the world, in exchange... I get 10% of the profit!" Gromir licked his lips as he spoke.

Rigel raised an eyebrow. These precious stones must have come from Poseidon's tomb. To be honest, Rigel only picked the most beautiful ones and took very few diamonds, but now it seemed he had made a mistake.

He had never touched upon advanced knowledge such as the use of precious stones in alchemy, who knows how much it was worth? To him, they were just precious stones!

Rigel felt the urge to go back and retrieve all those diamonds he had left there.

How many were there?

Rigel's chest ached just thinking about it.

Rigel looked unhappy because of this, but Bromir thought Rigel was unhappy with his commission, he gritted his teeth and said. "7%! That's the lowest I can go."

Rigel was a little speechless, because why was he saying this to him? It wasn't Calypso who was selling! Looking away, he clearly saw Calypso looking at him with eyes full of dependence, clearly saying: 'He decides'.

Bromir was an extremely experienced Goblin, and although a situation like this was incredibly rare, he could tell with a glance that Rigel was the one making the decisions.

Rigel blinked, staring at Calypso without a word.

He stifled a sigh and looked at Bromir. "It'll do, we're also willing to donate the smaller one to Gringotts if you give up one of the lower vaults to the Valliere family." Rigel tilted his head toward Calypso.

Bromir swallowed hard, the lowest vaults were incredibly valuable, not only possessing the best guards but also incredibly cruel protections and traps.

Robbing a safe on the top level is difficult, but not impossible.

Robbing a safe in the middle tier is extremely difficult, but not impossible.

Stealing from a vault in the lowest layer is impossible, even if it were the Dark Lord himself, he could only flee with his tail between his legs. That place held not only the treasures of the oldest wizarding families, but also many of the vaults of the Goblins themselves.

Security was ridiculously high.

Precisely because of this, the Goblins refused to sell them easily, even for galleons.

The Black family vault was located precisely in that spot, which is why Rigel was well aware of the dangers lurking there.

Although a safe was truly unnecessary for him, it wouldn't be useless, besides, it was for Calypso, who knows, maybe it will prove useful in the future.

Just as Bromir was about to speak, Rigel added. "This safe will forever belong to Calypso and her descendants."

Bromir closed his mouth, looked at the precious stones, sighed, stood up and said. "I'm going to talk to the boss."
