Dumbledore looked at the papers on the table, it was a detailed report on the first-year students, something Dumbledore always liked to request. This was just the first of many, an overview of the first week, after that, the reports would be delivered monthly.
It was only a superficial view based on the professors' perspective, but Dumbledore had many other 'eyes' throughout the castle.
However, his focus was on two students, he flipped through the papers as he thought. The first was Harry, the child destined to stop Voldemort, and the second was the Black.
The overall image painted a picture of a kind, enthusiastic, gentle, intelligent, and playful student, save for two exceptions: Minerva practically barged into his office on Monday, showing him a needle, and Dumbledore himself was very surprised by Rigel's talent for transfiguration, taking months to reach that point demonstrated that it was something much more than simply 'talent,' but probably involved a personal skill.
Something a wizard would be born with.
Dumbledore didn't think much of it at the time, he observed Rigel, although he seemed a little out of place, he quickly became easily carried away when he was around the Gryffindors, especially the Weasley twins.
Dumbledore was truly speechless when he saw Rigel's request to bring a monkey, but he found it amusing enough, so he allowed it.
He was pleased with his decision, the Gryffindors liked Jack quite a lot. Dumbledore was even informed by the house-elves that the monkey spent a good deal of time in the kitchen being 'pampered' by the elves.
Dumbledore chuckled slightly at this, especially when he followed Jack with a Disillusionment Charm. The monkey was hyperactive and caused trouble wherever he went, but it was all minor stuff, so Dumbledore figured another Peeves wasn't a big deal.
Dumbledore wouldn't judge Rigel because of his family, he saw that the boy fit into Gryffindor, so he didn't pay much more attention to him for the rest of the week.
However, hours earlier, it was Snape's turn to break into his office. Snape said nothing, instead, he left a vial containing a memory, turned, and left.
Dumbledore became truly curious, as soon as he saw the memory, he realized that Snape had altered it slightly, but he could see that the alteration was simply to hide his own face, not wanting to show his expression. The real point was Rigel.
The memory began with Rigel talking about telling a story.
Dumbledore frowned, looking at Rigel's face. He saw something he hadn't expected to see, a hard, cold look, something reserved for dark wizards, not the kind who flinched with a loud sigh, but the kind who truly lived with blades at their throats.
Dumbledore could tell Rigel already had lives in his hands, he could see beyond Snape himself. At that moment, Rigel seemed to truly want to kill Snape.
Dumbledore frowned, he had seen the memory to the end, it had only been a moment, then he reviewed it several times.
Dumbledore put the Pensieve aside and began pacing around the office, trying to figure out which one was the real Rigel.
He saw two sides of him, but both seemed true.
Some kind of mental illness? Or perhaps... thinking about Quirrell, he felt that maybe Tom wasn't so foolish after all, that he was using Quirrell as bait and Rigel was the real 'host'?
How did he do that?
Dumbledore found himself increasingly confused, he sighed, he could only take things one step at a time.
His eyes turned to Phineas Black.
"Phineas, do you know Rigel Black?" Dumbledore asked.
Phineas pursed his lips as soon as he heard that name.
"That boy? He's the biggest disappointment in the Black family! Even worse than that Sirius guy, getting into Gryffindor... the worst part is he threw all our portraits into a dark, cold room. Portraits of the Black family! His ancestors!... " Phineas began to chatter irritably, he didn't even like going back to the Black's house now, besides Walburga's yelling, there was nothing to do there.
Dumbledore blinked, he had discovered a little more about Rigel. He had gotten rid of all the portraits, so he seemed to dislike his own family. Judging by how the Blacks were, it seemed like something a Gryffindor would do.
However, he was wrong about Sirius, would he also be wrong about Rigel?
Difficult... very difficult.
In the end, Dumbledore decided to keep a close eye on Rigel. He couldn't tell what was true and what was false, but the trap was already set. If Rigel was truly connected to Voldemort, he would wait until he had the Philosopher's Stone in his hands before acting.
Sighing, Dumbledore took the memory given to him by Snape and put it away, he could think about it in the future when he had a clearer mind or a new direction for his investigation.

Rigel got out of bed in the middle of the night, the group of Gryffindors were already snoring deeply. Rigel didn't let a single sound escape as he walked to the window.
Rigel looked one last time to make sure they were really asleep, before jumping straight from the Gryffindor tower.
Rigel made no sound as he fell rapidly, the next moment, the wind roared around him as he sped away, directly toward the black lake.
Water magic is the most versatile, lightning magic the most destructive, but wind magic was the one Rigel preferred, for no other reason than the ability to fly freely.
Rigel smiled, speeding across the lake, he placed his hand on the water, running his fingers through it and feeling that familiar sensation, like coming home, Calypso's blessing still working even in this world.
As Rigel flew, an owl's hoot startled him from his reverie. Looking to the side, he saw a black owl rapidly approaching, silent as all owls are. Rigel didn't notice it until it was very close.
It wasn't Nero, Rigel could sense, although he looked very much like him. That could only mean it was Calypso.
Rigel rolled his eyes, jumping straight into the water.
The next moment, his form changed completely, his clothes vanished as a fish tail appeared. Not long after, another figure entered the water, and Calypso smiled as she assumed her mermaid form.
"I knew you'd be leaving today." She said as she approached and hugged him happily. It had been so long since she'd been away from him... she couldn't even, or rather, didn't want to, remember the time Rigel wasn't there.
Rigel missed Calypso too, so he didn't push her away, but he felt strange embracing the naked figure, even if only from the waist up, so he pushed her away after a while.
Calypso pouted, but didn't say much.
Rigel, on the other hand, seemed curious and suspicious. "How did you know I was going out today?"
Calypso rolled her eyes and said. "It seems you've forgotten that I can predict the future."
Rigel did indeed freeze things, she rarely used that ability, especially after becoming a goddess again.
"I have no reason to look at the future when I'm with you, I like that each day is a surprise, I only used it this time to know when I could see you." She winked, swimming around him, Rigel controlling his gaze to avoid looking at her breasts.
Swallowing hard, he nodded. "Alright, since you're here, you can come with me, I have some things to take care of today."
"For example?" Calypso swam alongside him, asking curiously.
"First, let's find the giant squid. I hope the squid will accept the Kraken." Rigel shrugged.
Calypso didn't think twice and nodded, she took Rigel's hand and led the way, knowing perfectly well where to find it.
"I've been here before, and I've even spoken to the mermaids here. Although they aren't very beautiful, their voices are as beautiful as those in my world. If I had my divine power, I could help with their appearance, unfortunately..." Calypso sighed.
Rigel wasn't surprised, of course, Calypso, as a sea goddess, wouldn't be able to stay away from water for long, he must have expected it.
Without caring, he simply followed her, sinking towards the darkness.
