Kael had just stepped out of the fighting arena when he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"Still causing trouble, I see."
Kael stopped.
He didn't need to turn around immediately.
That voice was one he hadn't heard in a long time.
A small smile appeared on his face before he finally turned.
Darius stood several steps away, his arms folded across his chest.
Kael looked him over from head to toe.
Then he nodded.
"You're still alive."
Darius raised an eyebrow.
"That's your greeting?"
Kael shrugged.
"I was expecting you to be dead by now."
A faint smile appeared on Darius's face.
"You've become quite rude."
"You weren't exactly polite when we first met."
Darius chuckled quietly.
"Fair enough."
For a few seconds, they simply looked at each other.
It had been a long time.
Darius was still the same calm, imposing man Kael remembered, while Kael had changed considerably since the last time they stood together.
Darius eventually broke the silence.
"You've grown."
Kael glanced at himself.
"Physically?"
Darius shook his head.
"Don't ruin the compliment."
Kael laughed.
"Alright. I'll take it."
Darius looked toward the arena entrance.
"I heard you were fighting a Peak Bronze hunter."
Kael nodded.
"Yeah."
"And?"
"I won."
Darius's lips twitched.
"I expected that answer."
Kael folded his arms.
"Then why ask?"
"Because I wanted to hear you say it."
Kael laughed.
"You really haven't changed."
Darius looked at him calmly.
"Neither have you."
"That's not true."
Kael pointed toward himself.
"I've gotten much stronger."
Darius nodded.
"That part is obvious."
Kael grinned.
"See? You admitted it."
"I said you've gotten stronger. I didn't say you're impressive."
Kael stared at him.
Then he laughed.
"Still annoying."
"And you're still talking too much."
Kael shook his head.
"It's good to see you too."
Darius smiled faintly.
"It's good to see you alive."
The playful atmosphere settled for a moment.
Kael leaned against the wall beside him.
"So, where have you been all this time?"
"Working."
Kael waited.
Darius said nothing else.
Kael turned his head.
"That's it?"
"That's it."
"You disappear for months and come back with one word?"
Darius shrugged.
"You asked where I was. I answered."
Kael sighed dramatically.
"I forgot how difficult talking to you could be."
Darius gave him a sideways glance.
"And yet you're still here."
"Unfortunately for you."
Darius laughed softly.
Kael looked at him again.
"Are you staying?"
Darius nodded.
"For a while."
Kael's grin returned.
"Good."
Darius raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
Kael pushed himself away from the wall.
"I was starting to think the guild had become too boring."
Darius shook his head.
"You've been here for less than a few minutes and you're already complaining."
"I've been here long enough."
Darius smiled.
"Some things really haven't changed."
Kael smiled back.
Darius looked toward the corridor.
"Come on."
Kael followed.
"Where are we going?"
"Somewhere quieter."
Kael glanced at him.
"You're buying food, right?"
Darius stopped walking.
"Why would I?"
Kael smiled innocently.
"Because you disappeared for so long."
Darius stared at him for a moment.
Then he shook his head and continued walking.
"I regret coming back already."
Kael laughed as he followed.
"Too late."
