Hunt Race

Chapter 159: The Next Step

Kael stared at Darius after his question.

"Do you think the Mark has something sealed inside it?"

Darius looked at the black crescent on Kael's palm.

"I don't know."

Kael sighed.

"Of course."

"But," Darius continued, "I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

"Because whatever the Mark is, you already have enough to work with."

Darius nodded toward Kael's sword.

"You have several techniques you haven't mastered yet, an ability you barely understand, and you're only beginning to sense mana."

Kael looked at his sword.

"That's true."

"You don't need another mystery to solve right now."

Kael gave him a look.

"You're the one who started explaining all this."

"And now I'm telling you to stop thinking about it."

Kael laughed quietly.

"Fair."

He leaned back against the wall.

For a few seconds, neither spoke.

Then Kael looked at Darius again.

"Can I ask you something else?"

"You've been doing that for the last hour."

"And you keep answering."

"Unfortunately."

Kael smiled.

"How do I reach Peak Bronze?"

Darius's expression changed slightly.

"Now that's something worth discussing."

Kael sat up.

Darius continued.

"You've already crossed into Bronze, but you're still fighting like someone who recently discovered his strength."

Kael frowned.

"That bad?"

"Not bad."

Darius shook his head.

"Unpolished."

Kael nodded.

"What's missing?"

"Control."

Darius raised a finger.

"Your techniques are strong, but you still depend on timing and instinct more than actual mana control."

A second finger followed.

"Your physical strength is improving, but you're not using mana efficiently to support your movements."

A third.

"And you haven't properly developed your ability to sense mana."

Kael listened carefully.

"So I need to work on all three."

"Yes."

Kael thought for a moment.

"Which one first?"

"Mana sensing."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

"Because it will improve everything else."

Darius stepped closer.

"When you can feel your own mana properly, you'll understand how much you're using during every movement. You'll notice when you're wasting it and when you're circulating it efficiently."

Kael nodded.

"And when I fight?"

"You'll begin noticing changes in your opponent's mana."

Kael remembered what Darius had explained earlier.

"Before they use a technique."

"Sometimes."

Darius nodded.

"But don't expect miracles. At your level, you'll only notice obvious changes at first."

Kael smiled.

"Still useful."

"Very."

Kael looked thoughtful.

"Then I'll start training that."

Darius nodded.

"But there's something else."

"What?"

"You need opponents."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"I've been fighting."

"Beasts."

"Yes."

"And Hunters."

Kael smiled.

"Occasionally."

Darius shook his head.

"Not enough."

Kael frowned.

"Why?"

"Because you adapt quickly."

Darius's gaze sharpened.

"Against beasts, you learn their patterns. Against Hunters, you have to deal with different weapons, techniques, abilities, and fighting styles."

Kael nodded slowly.

"So you want me to fight more Hunters."

"I want you to experience more styles."

Kael smiled.

"That actually sounds interesting."

Darius turned toward the door.

"Good."

Kael followed him with his eyes.

"Where are we going?"

Darius stopped.

"To the guild."

Kael stood.

"For what?"

Darius glanced back at him.

"I'm going to find you a mission."

Kael's eyes brightened.

"What kind?"

Darius opened the door.

"One where you won't be able to solve everything by simply cutting through it."

Kael smiled.

"That sounds annoying."

"That's the point."

Kael grabbed his sword.

Then he followed Darius out of the room.
