Chapter 165: The First Struggle

The creature roared and charged.

Kael barely had time to raise his sword before the first claw came crashing down.

CLANG!

The impact drove him backward, his boots scraping hard against the stone floor.

The beast followed immediately.

Its second claw swept toward his chest.

Kael twisted away, but not far enough.

SHING!

The claw tore across his side.

Pain shot through him.

Kael staggered, pressing one hand against the wound as blood quickly soaked through his clothes.

The creature didn't wait.

It lunged again.

Kael raised his sword and caught the next strike, but the force behind it was overwhelming.

CLANG!

His arms trembled.

He pushed the claw aside and immediately used Mirage Step, his body blurring as he escaped the beast's reach.

He reappeared several meters away.

The creature turned.

Kael took a breath.

His side was bleeding.

His shoulder was already carrying another cut from the earlier exchanges.

And the beast looked almost untouched.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"This is going to be troublesome."

The creature crouched.

Dark-red mana gathered around its claws.

Kael's expression changed.

He recognized the technique.

"Blood Fang."

The beast swung.

The blood covering its claws stretched outward, forming several sharp crimson blades that tore through the air.

Kael prepared to dodge.

Then the Mark on his palm pulsed.

Something pulled at him.

Kael froze for half a second.

The blood.

He could feel it.

Not just the blood that had spilled from the beast's previous wounds.

The blood forming the Blood Fang was connected to it.

And somehow...

The Mark was trying to pull it toward him.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

The crimson blades suddenly trembled.

Their trajectory shifted slightly.

The beast's eyes widened.

Kael felt resistance.

Heavy resistance.

The beast's Silver aura was wrapped around the blood like chains.

Kael gritted his teeth.

"So you're fighting me for control."

The blood blades violently changed direction.

Kael barely moved his sword in time.

CLANG!

The attack struck his blade and threw him sideways.

He rolled across the ground before rising.

The beast attacked again.

This time, Kael didn't wait.

"Ripple Slash!"

SHING!

His first slash cut across the creature's arm.

The second followed immediately.

The beast twisted away, but the blade still opened another wound across its ribs.

Blood spilled.

The Mark pulsed.

Kael felt the connection grow stronger.

Then something even more unexpected happened.

The blood around the wounds began moving.

It flowed back toward the creature.

The cuts slowly closed.

Kael stared.

"It can heal too..."

The beast roared and charged.

Kael stepped backward.

The creature swung.

Kael blocked.

CLANG!

Another claw.

He redirected it.

The beast spun and struck again.

Kael ducked beneath the attack, but the claws still grazed his shoulder.

Blood splashed onto the floor.

Kael gritted his teeth.

He couldn't keep taking hits like this.

The beast suddenly raised its hand.

Several droplets of blood gathered above its claws.

They compressed.

Then fired.

"Blood Bullet!"

Kael moved.

SHING!

The first bullet tore through the space beside his head.

The Mark pulsed again.

Kael reached toward the blood instinctively.

The bullet trembled.

Its trajectory shifted.

But the beast's Silver aura pushed back immediately.

Kael's expression tightened.

The blood snapped back under the creature's control and shot toward him again.

Kael twisted away.

The bullet grazed his thigh.

Pain burned through his leg.

He stumbled.

The creature was already moving.

Kael raised his sword.

CLANG!

The claw slammed against his blade.

His injured leg buckled slightly.

The beast pushed harder.

Kael gritted his teeth and forced the claw away before using Mirage Step.

He disappeared.

The beast turned.

Kael appeared at its side.

"Phantom Edge."

SHING!

The blade flashed across the creature's abdomen.

Another wound opened.

Blood spilled.

The Mark pulsed violently.

Kael felt the connection again.

Stronger.

But still not enough.

The creature roared.

The wound began closing.

Kael stared at it.

Every cut he created was being erased.

Every time he tried to interfere with its blood techniques, the Silver aura pushed him back.

And every mistake cost him another injury.

The beast charged again.

Kael tightened his grip.

He couldn't overpower it.

He couldn't rely on First Blood.

Not yet.

But the Mark had already shown him something.

The connection was getting stronger.

Every wound mattered.

Kael lowered his stance as the beast approached.

"Then I'll just have to give you more."

The creature's claws ignited with crimson mana.

Kael rushed forward.

The next exchange was going to be even bloodier.
