Hunt Race

Chapter 29: The Next Hunt

The following morning, Kael arrived at the Guild before sunrise.

After another hour of training, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and made his way toward the commission hall.

The large board was already crowded.

Hunters scanned the notices, discussing rewards, locations, and difficulty before claiming commissions.

Kael stopped a few steps away.

This time...

He didn't reach for the first notice he saw.

Instead, he read each one carefully.

Escort Merchant Caravan — Bronze Rank.

Investigate Missing Livestock — Bronze Rank.

Eliminate Cave Bats Near East Ridge — Iron Rank.

Subdue a Razorfang Boar Terrorizing Oakridge Farm — Iron Rank.

Kael's eyes rested on the last commission.

Below it was a short report.

> The boar has destroyed several fields and injured two farmers. Hunters are authorized to eliminate it.

He read it twice.

Simple.

Direct.

A beast hunt.

Exactly what he wanted.

Kael removed the notice and walked to the reception counter.

The receptionist accepted it and looked over the details.

"Oakridge Farm?"

Kael nodded.

"I'll take it."

She stamped the parchment before handing it back.

"The commission was posted yesterday after a Guild scout confirmed the beast's location."

Kael gave a small nod.

"So the report is recent."

The receptionist smiled.

"I had a feeling you'd ask after what happened in Green Moss Valley."

Kael smiled awkwardly.

"I'd rather not walk into another surprise."

"A wise decision."

She slid a small wooden token across the counter.

"Show this to the farm owner when you arrive. He'll know you're from the Guild."

Kael tucked both the token and the commission into his pouch.

Stepping through the Guild gates, Kael adjusted the sword at his waist and started down the road leading toward Oakridge Farm.

His second hunt had begun.
