The afternoon sun filtered through the canopy as Kael made his way toward Oakridge Farm.
The Razorfang's tusks hung from his pack, swaying with every step.
Then—
Clang!
Steel rang through the forest.
Kael stopped.
Another sharp growl followed.
Someone was fighting.
Silently, he slipped into the undergrowth, moving from tree to tree until the sounds grew louder.
Ahead lay a small clearing.
A young woman stood at its center.
Two Ironfang Wolves circled her.
One prowled to her left.
The other lingered behind, searching for an opening.
She didn't move.
She simply watched them.
The first wolf finally lost its patience.
It lunged.
The woman stepped aside with effortless precision.
Its jaws snapped shut on empty air.
Before it landed, she struck.
Her blade skimmed across its shoulder, drawing only a thin line of blood.
Not enough to kill.
Just enough to anger it.
Kael frowned.
She could've finished it...
The wounded wolf snarled and attacked again.
At the same time, the second wolf sprang from behind.
The woman smiled.
A tiny smile.
She spun between them.
The first wolf crashed into the second.
Both tumbled across the clearing in a mess of fur and teeth.
She never chased them.
Instead, she waited.
The wolves separated, growling louder than before.
Now they attacked together.
One low.
One high.
The woman ducked beneath the first.
Her boot struck the second square in the jaw.
It yelped, crashing into a tree.
Again...
She didn't finish it.
Kael narrowed his eyes.
She's controlling the fight.
The wolves grew frantic.
Their attacks lost rhythm.
They were no longer hunting.
They were reacting.
Exactly as she wanted.
The larger wolf charged recklessly.
The woman sidestepped.
At the last instant, she caught its foreleg with the edge of her blade.
The wolf stumbled.
Before it recovered—
A throwing knife flashed through the air.
It buried itself deep in the smaller wolf's throat.
The beast collapsed instantly.
The larger one froze.
Its ears flattened.
For the first time...
It hesitated.
The woman gave it no chance.
She burst forward.
One clean slash.
The wolf staggered.
A second slash followed before it could regain its footing.
The beast collapsed beside its companion.
Silence.
The forest grew still.
Kael remained hidden.
He had watched a Hunt.
The woman bent down, retrieved her throwing knife, and cleaned the blood from both blades.
She slid them back into place.
Then she turned.
Her eyes locked onto Kael's position.
Kael froze. I'm
