Hunt Race

Chapter 67: An Unnamed Legacy

Kael pulled the thin book fro them the shelf.

A layer of dust drifted into the air.

Unlike the other journals...

There was no author's name.

No title.

Only the faded symbol of a sword surrounded by rippling circles.

He opened the first page.

It was blank.

The second...

Blank.

Kael frowned.

Only when he reached the third page did he find a single sentence.

"A technique is born twice."

His eyes narrowed.

He turned the page.

"The first birth belongs to its creator."

"The second belongs to the one who surpasses it."

Kael stood silently.

There were no illustrations.

No sword stances.

No instructions.

Only short passages.

Each one seemed less like a lesson...

And more like advice left behind for future hunters.

"Do not chase perfection."

"A perfect technique never changes."

"A living technique never stops changing."

Kael continued reading.

The further he went...

The more he realized something.

This wasn't a manual.

It was the notes of someone who had spent an entire lifetime refining a single technique.

Every page spoke of improvement.

Of adapting.

Of abandoning unnecessary movements.

Near the middle of the book...

One passage caught his attention.

"When your technique becomes instinct..."

"Do not ask whether it is complete."

"Ask whether it can still grow."

Kael unconsciously thought of Ripple Slash.

He had been proud after mastering it.

Yet according to these notes...

Mastery wasn't the end.

It was merely the beginning.

He turned another page.

This time...

There was a drawing.

Just a single line.

A curved slash.

Beside it were a few handwritten words.

"The blade should never fight its own momentum."

Kael stared at the drawing.

It was simple.

Almost identical to the principle behind Ripple Slash.

Coincidence?

Or...

Had someone else reached the same conclusion years ago?

Before he could think further...

A voice came from behind him.

"So..."

"You found that book."

Kael turned.

The elderly librarian stood a few steps away.

Her expression was calm.

"Do many people read it?"

She smiled faintly.

"Very few."

"Most hunters open it..."

"Then return it a minute later."

"They expect techniques."

"They find thoughts."

Kael looked back at the book.

"Who wrote it?"

The old woman slowly shook her head.

"No one knows."

"It was donated to the Association decades ago."

"There wasn't even a name attached."

She glanced at the open pages.

"But every now and then..."

"A hunter finds something useful inside."

Kael carefully closed the book.

"I think..."

"I understand why."

The old woman smiled.

"Then it's worth your time."

She turned and quietly walked away.

Kael remained where he stood.

His fingers rested lightly on the cover.

Ripple Slash...

Was no longer just a technique he had created.

It was a path.

And paths...

Were meant to be walked.
