I am a Late Bloomer in the Immortal World

Chapter 540: Old Enemy, Fallen in One Strike

“Let’s go.”

“With that Chilong around, the Heavenly Ghost Soul Seed is beyond our sect’s reach—for now.”

Ancestor Tianxie sighed as he spoke, then turned into a gust of sinister wind and drifted westward. He didn’t mention avenging Zhang Nanqiu at all.

Seeing this, Gong Shulan and the other disciples moved in unison, withdrawing from outside the Myriad Yin Sect.

Inside the underground palace, Wei Tu, Madam Jin, and her daughter fled far away in the Golden Ghost Palanquin, unaware that Ancestor Tianxie, shaken by Zhang Nanqiu’s death and fearing Chilong might still be alive, had abandoned the idea of chasing them down.

Under Madam Jin’s lead, the three of them bolted in the opposite direction of the Myriad Yin Sect.

Compared to survival, the sect’s foundation was worth nothing.

After seven days of frantic flight, the Golden Ghost Palanquin finally stopped on a barren island to the north of the Demonic Extreme Sea.

Like Ancestor Chilong, Madam Jin had her own rabbit warrens.

This island, called Beiyuan Island, had once been a secret cultivation site of the Golden Ghost King. It held a fourth-grade spiritual vein—enough to let the three of them hide and cultivate in peace.

Supported by Wang Sutai, the frail Madam Jin stepped out of the palanquin. From her storage pouch, she pulled out a jade token and poured qi into it, embedding it into the void.

At once, a gleaming jade portal appeared in the sky above the island.

Having seen similar things on Poison Demon Island, Wei Tu wasn’t surprised. He followed Madam Jin and her daughter inside.

The instant they entered, the portal vanished, leaving the island looking plain and untouched.

Inside, however, was a paradise: elegant pavilions, flowing streams, and rock gardens.

But before Wei Tu could take it in, he noticed something—Madam Jin had vanished without a trace.

Even sweeping the place with his divine sense revealed nothing.

“With this array guarding it, even Ancestor Tianxie won’t find us so easily.”

“Fu’er, Sutai, you two can cultivate here in peace.”

Her distant voice drifted into Wei Tu’s ears.

He raised an eyebrow, glancing at Wang Sutai, who also looked confused.

Then it hit him. Madam Jin, like her partner Chilong, was deeply suspicious.

She didn’t mean him harm, but she didn’t trust her son-in-law either.

Her warmth earlier had been because she needed him. Now, safe under the island’s array, she no longer had to bother with “winning him over.”

Wei Tu didn’t hold it against her. In the demonic path, anyone without such caution would have died long ago.

Without a word, he greeted Wang Sutai, found a pavilion, and shut himself in to heal.

His injuries weren’t as severe as Madam Jin’s, but they weren’t light either.

The Life-Seizing Seal had pushed him to near late Nascent Soul strength, but it tore through his body far more harshly than the Blood Seal.

Fortunately, Beiyuan Island’s spiritual energy was dense, as rich as a top-grade fourth-rank spirit land. His recovery would be much faster here.

‘Still… if I could get my hands on those Golden Valley Pills from Gu Tong, that would be perfect.’

After months of recuperation, the thought sparked in Wei Tu’s mind.

Golden Valley Pills weren’t miracle cures, but the qi they carried was ideal for restoring the vitality of a body cultivator.

And Bone Jian, that fourth-grade alchemist, wasn’t nearly as troublesome as Duan Changjing or Zhang Nanqiu—just a Nascent Soul early-stage cultivator.

Even injured, Wei Tu was confident he could deal with him using only immortal techniques.

‘But before I leave, I should sort through Zhang Nanqiu’s treasures. More tools won’t hurt.’

He flipped his hand, bringing out two storage bags looted from Zhang Nanqiu—one purple, one black.

The purple one was finely made, clearly for precious items.

Focusing his divine sense, he began erasing its imprint.

Half a day later, with a faint crack, the seal shattered, revealing its contents.

“Spirit-Capturing Talismans… Transformation Talismans…”

Wei Tu first noticed the unique talismans of the Spirit-Capturing Sect, Zhang Nanqiu’s heritage as its chief disciple.

There were about a dozen of each.

But most were spent. During the fight with him and Madam Jin, Zhang Nanqiu had used nearly all of them.

Only the Transformation Talisman he’d used to become that blood bat ghost remained intact.

The rest of the items were unimpressive. Plenty of fourth-grade materials, but all low-grade—nothing special, nothing Wei Tu could truly value.

Then his eyes caught on something.

“This is…”

But when Wei Tu opened the black storage pouch, he found something that truly surprised him.

“Ten-Thousand Spirits Corpse Fluid?”

He pulled out a jade vial, uncorked it, and took a light sniff, his eyes lighting up with joy.

This was one of the three methods recorded in Liu Yu Daoist’s texts for nurturing Yin-Yang Demon Corpses.

Now that it had appeared in Zhang Nanqiu’s pouch, he no longer needed to scour the Great Cang cultivation world for this rare treasure.

After sorting Zhang Nanqiu’s collection and transferring what was useful into his own pouch, Wei Tu brought out the Soul-Refining Banner. He intended to do what he had done before—refine the “Two-Forms Infant,” this strange Nascent Soul, into another main soul of the banner.

He had already seen the terrifying strength gained when the Five Elements Infant became the main soul.

With the addition of the Two-Forms Infant, the banner’s power would surely rise another step.

Of course, before refining it, Wei Tu also searched the soul.

Unfortunately, while this infant knew more sect secrets than the Five Elements Infant, it didn’t carry the formulas he wanted most, such as the methods for making the Spirit-Capturing and Transformation Talismans.

Still, he wasn’t disappointed. He had expected as much.

The Spirit-Capturing Sect’s arts were unique, but they weren’t beyond what other demonic sects had. They were nice to have, but not indispensable.

Besides, with more than 10 Spirit-Capturing and Transformation Talismans already in his hand, he had enough to last him for a while.

Half a year later.

Wei Tu spread his divine sense and informed Madam Jin he planned to leave Beiyuan Island to find another cultivation ground.

“Husband, leaving already?”

Wang Sutai couldn’t hide the sadness in her heart.

Though they hadn’t known each other long, the memory of Wei Tu saving her and Madam Jin from mortal danger had etched itself deeply in her mind.

But she also understood—he was a demonic cultivator.

Someone like Wei Tu could never be tied down by romance. For him, pursuit of strength was the only truth.

“You’re still not fully healed. But if you’ve decided to go, I won’t stop you.”

From the sky above came Madam Jin’s soft sigh.

At once, a jade-white portal appeared before Wei Tu.

He nodded, sent Wang Sutai a farewell through voice transmission, and without looking back, stepped through the gate, leaving the hidden estate behind.

A year ago, his trip to the Myriad Yin Sect had been for one goal—to kill Qi Chengchu and spread the illusion that Ancestor Chilong still lived.

Though much had happened along the way, none of it was enough to make him abandon his life in the righteous world.

That was where his true path lay.

Still, leaving now didn’t mean he was abandoning Wang Sutai, reducing her to just one fleeting encounter.

If time allowed, he would return again.

Two months later.

Wei Tu finally crossed the entire Demonic Extreme Sea and arrived near Poison Demon Island at its southern tip.

But he wasn’t in a rush to contact Wansheng Pavilion’s Lu Xuehu to jointly deal with Gu Tong, the fourth-rank alchemist.

Instead, he disguised himself, gathered some herbs from his pouch, and posed as a cultivator seeking pills, slipping into the estate of one of Bone Jian’s disciples.

The disciple, Sun Pei, was a sallow-faced middle-aged man. Though not outstanding, his alchemy was respectable in the region around Poison Demon Island.

“You wish my master to refine pills?”

“If it’s only a third-grade high-quality pill, I have some confidence myself.”

Glancing at Wei Tu’s list of ingredients, Sun Pei smiled, patting his chest in assurance.

“These herbs were hard to gather. I can’t allow mistakes. Please understand, Alchemist Sun.”

Wei Tu narrowed his eyes, his voice cold as he swept Sun Pei with a look.

Before entering the island, he had suppressed his cultivation to Nascent Soul early stage.

It was enough to give a fourth-rank alchemist’s disciple some respect, but not too much.

Sun Pei’s smile froze, but he dared not argue. Nodding, he followed the rules, recording Wei Tu’s name and handing him a talisman plate.

“This plate has the date, time, and number. Next month, bring your herbs to my master’s estate.”

He explained patiently.

Wei Tu accepted with a nod of thanks and turned to leave, preparing for the next step of his plan.

But just then, at the gate of Sun Pei’s estate, he saw someone he recognized.

A man of about forty, with a high forehead and sharp cheekbones, clad in a blood-red robe. He carried himself with a cold, oppressive presence.

A Nascent Soul ancestor.

“You Gongquan?” Wei Tu’s brow arched, and a chill spread in his heart.

They had never met directly, but he knew the name.

More than a hundred years ago, this very demon had been one of the culprits who left Bai Zhi comatose to this day.

If not for this demon’s pursuit, Bai Zhi would never have been forced into the Cloud Marsh Secret Realm to escape disaster.

Back then, Wei Tu had lingered near the secret realm, hoping to find this man and avenge her.

But before he left Zheng Kingdom, You Gongquan vanished without a trace, leaving Wei Tu no path for revenge.

Now, just as the memory was fading, You Gongquan suddenly appeared before him.

“Searching high and low, only to find it right before me.”

Wei Tu sneered to himself but kept his face calm. He walked out of Sun Pei’s estate as if nothing had happened, not sparing You Gongquan a glance.

Of course, before leaving, he had already let Ancestor Chilong lock firmly onto You Gongquan’s aura.

Now he only needed to wait until the man left Poison Demon Island, and he could finally avenge Bai Zhi.

“Who was that?”

Just as Wei Tu noticed him, You Gongquan also noticed this unfamiliar Nascent Soul cultivator.

But he didn’t dwell on it. As usual, he simply memorized the stranger’s appearance and moved on.

He entered Sun Pei’s estate, and half a day later came out smiling.

His purpose had been the same as Wei Tu’s—to request Master Gu Tong’s alchemy.

But unlike Wei Tu, his commission was for a fourth-grade pill.

“If this pill succeeds, my cultivation will rise another step. Then, among the Blood God Sect’s Nascent Soul elders, I’ll at least reach the middle rank.”

He thought to himself with anticipation.

As a newly advanced Nascent Soul, his standing in the sect had risen far above his Golden Core days, yet compared to the older Nascent Soul elders, he was still stuck at the bottom.

That gap showed most clearly in resource distribution.

Over the years, the fourth-rank resources he’d received were pitifully few.

If not for stumbling upon a small secret realm, he wouldn’t even have gathered the herbs needed for this pill.

“One month left. I’ll head to Liang Kingdom first, settle some matters, then return…”

With that, he flew away from Poison Demon Island toward Liang Kingdom.

During the journey, he stayed vigilant, wary of ambush.

Even as a Nascent Soul elder of the demonic five sects, he knew robbery was common in demon lands.

One day.

Two days…

The longer he traveled, the more his guard eased. Soon he was nearly at the Blood God Sect’s Liang Kingdom branch, second only to their main headquarters. Surely no one would dare strike here.

But then—

A massive black banner, several zhang tall, appeared out of thin air, blocking his path.

His heart jolted, and he tried to flee with a blood escape rather than fight.

Yet the banner trembled once, and two infants emerged, identical in size but with starkly different skin tones.

They giggled, darting like souls outside their bodies, and closed around him.

Moments later, a flash of bloody light.

You Gongquan’s mind went blank. His body plummeted lifeless from the sky, killed on the spot.

Half a day later.

Wei Tu sat inside a rented cave estate on Poison Demon Island, clutching You Gongquan’s storage pouch.

“A Nascent Soul early stage, and so easily crushed?”

He looked stunned, almost unbelieving.

He hadn’t expected the assassination to be hard, but he also hadn’t thought the Soul-Refining Banner alone would settle it so swiftly.

After a moment’s reflection, he understood.

It wasn’t that You Gongquan was weak. It was that Wei Tu’s foundation at every step of Nascent Soul had been built far too solidly.

With the “Late Bloomer” destiny, techniques that took Nascent Soul elders centuries to master, he had grasped in a few short years or decades.

That was why, even in early Nascent Soul, he could duel old veterans and escape mid-Nascent Soul pursuit.

And by mid-stage, he had slain Zhang Nanqiu, a cultivator with profound accumulation.

You Gongquan, on the other hand, had barely a century since advancing. By normal progress, how many powerful methods could he possibly wield?

“In that case…”

“Maybe I can afford to be bolder.”

Wei Tu set aside the pouch and turned his gaze toward Gu Tong’s estate, thoughts stirring.

Before, he’d planned step by step, delaying action until he could lure Gu Tong off the island and then strike.

But now, with his current strength, he no longer needed to waste time.

Even injured from his battle with Zhang Nanqiu, adding the “Two-Forms Infant” as a main soul for the banner kept his combat power nearly intact.

Thinking this through, Wei Tu wasted no more time. He took out the Joyous Nuo Mask, placed it on his face, and transformed into the guise of Liu Yu Daoist before walking straight toward Wansheng Pavilion.

“Senior Liu Yu.”

Soon, Lu Xuehu and Old Granny Chou appeared before him once more, bowing with the same respect they’d shown a year ago.

“Does the crisis that once plagued Wansheng Pavilion still remain?”

Wei Tu glanced at Lu Xuehu and asked faintly.
