Chapter 248: Chapter 166: A United Attack
2:50 PM.
Dean Chen and the new vice dean, Zhang Sui, walked in side by side.
"Vice Dean Zhang, you mentioned a few days ago that you’ve been having trouble sleeping. Let me tell you, that’s because your ’heart fire’ is too strong."
Dean Chen’s tone was very easygoing. "When you have time this weekend, you should take a walk at the Great Buddha Temple and listen to the bells, or have a vegetarian meal at Nanhua Temple. Clear your mind of all those distracting thoughts from work. Once your mind is at peace, you’ll naturally sleep better."
Zhang Sui remained silent, merely continuing to walk.
Dean Chen tilted his head. "Vice Dean Zhang, why are you ignoring me?"
Zhang Sui sounded resigned. "Dean Chen, clinically, insomnia is mostly caused by a dysregulation of neurotransmitter secretion or sympathetic nerve excitement from long-term high pressure. I’m already taking melatonin, and it’s working quite well."
Dean Chen smiled. "Ah, you’re just too high-strung. In life and in work, you have to know when to leave some blank space. Water that is too pure has no fish, you know?"
Zhang Sui didn’t reply. He walked to his seat, sat down, and took out the notebook and fountain pen he carried with him, placing them on the table.
The notebook and the edge of the desk were perfectly parallel. The pen lay snugly beside the notebook.
Furthermore, he discontentedly tidied up the clutter on Dean Chen’s desk next to him.
Ma Huaide, sitting off to the side, took in the entire scene.
He sneered inwardly.
’These two hospital leaders are just like the rumors say,’ he thought. ’They really don’t piss in the same pot.’
Dean Chen preached the Doctrine of the Mean, vegetarianism, and chanting sutras, while Zhang Sui was pure Mayo Clinic style, all about data and regulations.
The two of them seemed so incompatible, even when just walking and talking together.
Ma Huaide felt his judgment was spot-on.
’Dean Chen wants to make a move against me, so I have to align myself with Zhang Sui immediately.’
He raised his wrist and glanced at his watch.
2:55 PM.
Attending physician Lin Haibo from Hepatobiliary Surgery arrived, Zhao Yumin from the Emergency Department arrived, and Liu Jianbang from the ICU arrived as well.
But Jiang He hadn’t.
A cold glint appeared in Ma Huaide’s eyes.
’Jiang He... just as I thought. He’s starting to act like a big shot just because he has a few accomplishments under his belt.’
In reality, Ma Huaide had completely misjudged the situation.
First of all, there was no hostility between Dean Chen and Zhang Sui whatsoever.
Their relationship was a bit like Gu Yizhou and Yi Xiangwan’s.
They bickered and found each other disagreeable, but that didn’t mean their relationship was bad.
Secondly, Jiang He wasn’t acting like a big shot.
Jiang He simply felt that his time shouldn’t be wasted in a conference room like this.
In fact, at eight o’clock that morning, Jiang He was leading Cheng Xiyao and the others in extracting miRNA from the second batch of cryopreserved serum.
"Upper aqueous phase has been aspirated."
"Add isopropanol, incubate for ten minutes at room temperature."
"..."
"Chief, don’t you have to go back to the hospital for a meeting this afternoon?"
Yi Xiangwan asked, "I heard it’s a big deal. You’re still running experiments down to the wire. Are you going to make it in time?"
"I’ll make it."
Jiang He said, "After the isopropanol precipitation, centrifuge at 12,000 rpm for ten minutes. You guys continue with the remaining washing and drying steps. I’ll check the purity data tomorrow morning."
Jiang He left the lab, got on a bus, and arrived at the administrative building of Affiliated Hospital No. 1 at exactly 2:57 PM.
He arrived outside the main conference room.
In the hallway, he saw three or four people standing there.
Xu Chen, Han Yuan, and two rotating doctors who looked vaguely familiar.
Jiang He paused, surprised. He walked over and asked, "What are you all doing standing here? Don’t you have to manage your patients this afternoon?"
Xu Chen spoke stubbornly, "Teacher Jiang, we’ve already handed off our department work for the afternoon to the other attending teachers. We’re standing here today for no other reason than to tell you that no matter what happens in there, we will stand firmly behind you."
A doctor beside him nodded. "Brother Jiang, we all know you handled fifteen beds by yourself yesterday. If anyone dares to make trouble for you in the meeting today, we’ll be the first to object!"
The nurse, Han Yuan, nodded vigorously.
Jiang He said helplessly, "What could possibly happen? This is just a routine quality control meeting. Your department heads and attending teachers are all sitting in there. What does it look like with you all blocking the door? Go back to work."
Xu Chen gritted his teeth and didn’t move.
The others also stood their ground stubbornly.
Jiang He: "..."
’Fine, let them stand there if they want. I can’t be bothered with them.’
As he pushed open the main door, it was exactly 2:59 PM.
As Jiang He walked in, countless gazes converged on him.
Everyone was looking at this young man whose fame was rapidly rising.
Jiang He’s expression was as calm as ever. He walked with a steady gait toward the back row and sat down in an empty seat next to Meng Shiyu.
"Teacher Jiang, you finally made it."
"Yep, right on time."
"I’ve already revised the 15 articles. If things go south later, just say you wrote them."
"?"
Jiang He sighed. He thought to himself, ’This is my fault. I didn’t explain it clearly to this kid, making him do all that work for nothing.’
’I’ll educate him on the dangers of betel nuts later as an apology.’
It was 3:00 PM sharp.
Ma Huaide cleared his throat lightly and pulled the microphone in front of him.
"Leaders, colleagues, good afternoon. Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to participate in our hospital-wide Quality Control and Medical Regulation Conference."
"Over the past period, our Affiliated Hospital No. 1 has achieved outstanding results in clinical emergency care, especially in responding to sudden public health events. These achievements would not have been possible without the tireless, round-the-clock efforts of every medical staff member present. On behalf of the Medical Affairs Department, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to you all."
Below the stage, the audience applauded.
Ma Huaide nodded slightly.
"However, while our achievements are certainly gratifying, we must not relax our requirements for basic standards in our daily medical management just because of momentary successes. Since Vice Dean Zhang Sui took office, he has repeatedly emphasized one term: SOP, which stands for Standard Operating Procedure."
