Fan Building.

Early in the morning, Chen Mu left home and headed straight for Fan Building.

The towering column of light from last night had caused a great stir, and he was very curious about what had happened.

Upon arriving at Fan Building, he realized that he was far from the only one interested in the event.

At this early hour, the building was already packed with people. Even Xu Gui, who usually lingered in more indulgent places, had gotten up early and taken his usual seat by the window.

"Old Lu Gong has lost his mind." Xu Gui muttered to himself, shaking his head and sighing.

"Was that column of light last night the work of the City Lord?" Chen Mu sat down across from him.

"Who else could it be?" Xu Gui sneered.

"At his age, wouldn't it be better to be a City Lord and enjoy his later years? Why get involved in such chaos?"

"Maybe Lord Lu is like an old warhorse with ambitions to hold two Divine Weapons at once." Chen Mu shrugged, unsurprised.

He had seen countless Qi Cultivators live and die for their paths. Ambition knows no age.

"With his old arms and legs, and he wants to master two Divine Weapons?"

"In a hurry to die, is he?" Xu Gui rolled his eyes.

What did that mean?

Was there more to this?

Chen Mu was intrigued.

Xu Gui nodded towards the crowd eagerly discussing Divine Weapons in the distance, snorting coldly, "These people all talk about the Divine Skills of Divine Weapons, yet none of them mention how they drain one's life."

"Not a single City Lord who took a Divine Weapon has lived past sixty."

"To serve as City Lord for fifty or sixty years and add to their original lifespan, wouldn't they reach eighty or ninety at least? That's not short-lived, is it?" Chen Mu didn't get it.

"Are you kidding me?" Xu Gui side-eyed him.

"Even if I lounged around Fan Building every day, I could live to two hundred."

"But with a Divine Weapon, you lose half right away, isn't that short-lived?"

Chen Mu twitched his mouth.

He nearly forgot.

The people here may look human, but they're more like Earthly Netherworld Yin Spirits.

A hundred years is an exceptional lifespan for humans, but for Yin Spirits, it's only half a ghost life.

"That certainly is life-draining." Chen Mu nodded reluctantly.

"It seems White Bird City is not suitable to stay in any longer."

"A wise man doesn't stand under a dangerous wall. In a few days, I plan to head to Three Paths City." Xu Gui declared firmly.

"Three Paths City is an old city with a three-generation legacy and over a hundred years of history."

"It's not an ambitious place, but it's stable."

"Compared to the ever-expanding and ambitious Wuxiang City, Three Paths City is evidently more stable." Xu Gui analyzed carefully, full of assurance.

"What do you say, want to join me?" He looked at Chen Mu with some hope.

Smack.

So familiar.

This demeanor is just like my former self.

Chen Mu looked at Fatty Xu in front of him, filled with emotion.

Back then, when his strength was weak, he would immediately flee at the slightest sense of unease. The hardships he endured make him shed tears of bitterness just thinking about it.

But that was all in the past.

After years of diligent cultivation, his strength steadily increased. Now, he's somewhat of a figure, able to withstand the storms and tempests.

And with his extensive experience from many upheavals, the little chaos in White Bird City is nothing.

Humph!

Chen Mu looked at Xu Gui with disdain.

"Count me in!"

"Wise choice!" Xu Gui chuckled.

Then the two started eagerly discussing their travel plans.

But they hadn't been talking for long.

Suddenly, a hum resonated, abruptly emanating from the depths of White Bird City.

The hum was like a wave, surging and sweeping across the entire city. Wherever it passed, heaven and earth fell silent.

The people in Fan Building were in a daze for quite some time.

Just as everyone was at a loss, a wisp of white mist appeared out of nowhere on the street outside Fan Building.

Then it seemed as if a valve had opened, more and more mist appeared out of thin air, covering Qing'an Square in a matter of breaths with a thin layer of white mist.

"Is that... the Mist of Confusion?"

"With the City Lord's divine protection, how could the Mist of Confusion appear in Qing'an Square?"

"Could it be..."

"Considering the commotion last night, did Lord Lu..."

Everyone simultaneously thought of a possibility so unbelievable it was staggering.

Boom!

The previously silent Fan Building erupted in a series of panicked exclamations.

"Old Lu Gong has lost his mind!" Across from Chen Mu, Xu Gui was pale and gnashing his teeth in grief and anger.

"Old Chen, we can't stay in White Bird City any longer. We have to leave immediately!"

Chen Mu nodded helplessly.

Though he was mentally prepared, he hadn't expected such a sudden turn of events.

Through the window, Chen Mu looked at the sky deep within the hundred-year-old city.

Massive clouds of white mist descended from the sky, making the originally grayish sky even gloomier.

Clearly, the Mist of Confusion from Mist Ridge had fully invaded White Bird City.

Sigh...

That Lord Lu really seems to be in dire straits.

...

The next day.

A remote mountain forest somewhere in Mist Forest.

"Are you sure this is the road to Three Paths City? It doesn't match the map." Chen Mu looked at the increasingly desolate woods and suspiciously glanced at Xu Gui beside him.

"Of course it doesn't match, I wasn't following the map anyway." Xu Gui waved his hand nonchalantly.

"For that damn Divine Weapon, outsiders in White Bird City are practically smashing each other's brains out, even old Lu Gong fell in there."

"If we took the originally mapped main road, we might dive right into the chaos as soon as we left the city." Xu Gui analyzed seriously.

"I know a small path, it's a long way around, but it's hidden and secluded, no one comes here."

"As long as we use it to bypass the chaos zone, the rest will be a smooth path." Xu Gui was confident.

"Not bad, Fatty, you thought it through." Chen Mu laughed.

He thought this fatty only had rubbish in his brain.

"Oh, it's nothing."

"Just a bit of wit." Xu Gui waved smugly.

Hey!

They call you fat and you still get puffed up.

"This path is so secluded, is it safe?" Chen Mu glanced around the silent Mist Forest.

"Would I walk it if it wasn't safe?" Xu Gui glanced sideways at Chen Mu.

"I've been picking Longevity Rice in Mist Ridge for years, braving wind and rain, always safely returning to White Bird City, thanks to caution."

"Trust me, it's stable!" His face was full of confidence.

Then.

Wooo... wooo...

A weird, eerie wail suddenly echoed through the dense forest.

Chen Mu turned expressionlessly towards Xu Gui.

This is your idea of stability?

Xu Gui was calm: "Relax, it's just the sound of the wind."

Next moment.

Caw!

A sharp, rough cry, like a night owl, pierced the sky.

Xu Gui: "..."

"It must be a lousy Black Wind Demon trying to scare us." He turned to comfort Chen Mu.

"Don't worry, I've seen plenty of these Black Wind Demons, they only bluff, nothing more."

Don't worry? Then why are your cheeks quivering?

Chen Mu squinted at Xu Gui.

"If you've got guts, come on out!" Xu Gui, gathering courage, suddenly yelled into the dense forest.

As if in response.

Whoosh!

A big hole suddenly appeared in the forest mist ahead, and a gray light shot through the air, hitting Xu Gui's forehead with a thud, knocking him head over heels.

Chen Mu turned looking at the gray stone embedded deeply into the forehead, his face twitched.

You sure are gutsy!

"Who!"

"Who the hell threw that stone!"

Xu Gui, with half a stone on his forehead, leapt up angrily.

Opening his mouth, he yelled angrily towards the depths of the forest.

Then...

A figure in a purple robe floated down from high above, hovering mid-air.

The person's face was iron-blue, eyes fixed on the stone on Xu Gui's forehead, eyes red as if throwing flames.

"Deputy... Deputy City Lord?!" Xu Gui's neck shrank, and his fat trembled involuntarily.

"Do you... do you want this stone? I'll give it to you, I'll take it off for you right away!"

He raised a hand to pry off the stone embedded in his forehead.

But as soon as his hand touched it, the gray stone turned into a stream of gray air, suddenly darting to Chen Mu nearby.

In no time, like rainwater falling into the arid ground, it slipped effortlessly into Chen Mu's body.

Chen Mu looked at Xu Gui, then at the person in the purple robe, feeling awkward.

"Uh, I'm saying this isn't my fault, do you believe me?"

Qin Yue stared expressionlessly at Chen Mu, that icy gaze like looking at a corpse.

Chen Mu helplessly looked at Xu Gui.

This is your idea of remote, secluded, safe and sound?

Xu Gui: "..."

I have no idea what just happened either.
