If it were the harmonious Metal Dragons, it might be possible, but the Five-Colored Dragons are a group of selfish beings. They would only worry about the Demon King’s tyranny affecting themselves and might join forces to resist in such situations. Yet under special circumstances, they would mostly turn a blind eye; there’s no reason to anger the powerful Demon King over an unfamiliar adult Green Dragon.
The Green Dragon Aiselas felt suffocated and frustrated with no outlet for these feelings. It did not dare direct this towards the Demon King or the Great Demon Dilla, and those three coordinated human epic warriors were clearly not opponents it could defeat now, so it could only vent its anger on the originator, the Weaver.
"Die!"
Hundreds of forest-green venomous dragons once again surged around it.
The Weaver Erich Xavier did not panic at the sight.
He understood Aiselas best, and besides, he now bore the power of an 18th-level High Priest’s prayer strength, and even though the Green Dragon seemed unaffected earlier, its momentum had been considerably scared by that meteor that could claim its life.
For epic warriors, momentum is also a critical factor in determining the outcome.
People on the ground knew nothing of what was happening in the sky.
When a battle surpasses certain levels, ordinary people with insufficient strength cannot even observe.
Epic warriors possess many means to isolate space and bring their battlefield to a unique domain.
Even the most primitive physical exchanges, punch for punch, can be too fast to capture with the human eye and thus unobservable.
Unless epic warriors intend to slaughter ordinary life, making it hard not to notice.
However, neither the trio of Eli, Carlos nor the Great Demon Dilla had any interest in this; the Weaver’s eyes were focused solely on the Green Dragon, and perhaps the Green Dragon Aiselas might intend to massacre ordinary soldiers.
But it was deprived of its domain power, equivalent to having its most advantageous large-scale destructive weapon banned, coupled with its limitations due to deceptive strength, unable to evade the Weaver’s attacks.
This led to the battle splitting into two distinctly different battlefields.
Days passed casually.
As the war continued.
The once-vibrant plains now lay deeply scarred, riddled with countless indentations, both shallow and deep.
In the skies nearby, vultures and crows circled, feeding on carrion.
On the ground, dense flies swarming around the corpses were omnipresent.
Real warfare is not grand and majestic; it quickly becomes numb after the initial tension and excitement fade.
Every day, familiar faces around could silently fade away.
It is only during meal breaks, after taking turns coming down from the city walls, that people notice when habitual presences in the scenery are missing.
Wave after wave of attacks and defenses, after repelling the Demon army, the opponents gather strength again, seemingly unending.
As the Demon army left a dense mass of bodies behind, retreating like a receding tide, the Red Dragon Team’s members breathed a sigh of relief, only descending the walls slowly after receiving orders from the area commander, already exhausted.
Albena helped Aaliyah, who was feeling a bit weak in the legs.
She had just cast too many spells at once, excessively draining her energy, and her typically pale skin now looked a distinctly unhealthy white.
"Are you okay, Aaliyah?"
"Don’t worry." Aaliyah took a deep breath, waved her hand reassuringly at the kind-hearted giant in the team.
"It’s just an excessive consumption of Natural Power, I’ll recover slowly, it’s nothing serious."
Even for always lively Aaliyah, the ongoing days of war had made her gaze appear weary.
Of course, this weariness was also mixed with a persistent worry.
"It’s already been more than ten days..."
After descending the wall’s stairs, she suddenly turned and looked towards the direction behind the wall—the Jade Forest, and sighed an incomplete thought.
The others instantly understood her meaning.
Initially, Gauss had said before departing that everything would go smoothly and he would return within ten days.
At first, no one worried excessively.
After all, since joining the team, Gauss’s displayed strength had always impressed them.
He seemed to have a comforting strength, as though he could effortlessly handle any danger faced.
No matter the previously unjoined Red Dragon, the Extraordinary Dragon Priestess, the lone knight outside Gray Rock Town, or the terrifying centaur, none had managed to defeat him.
Thus, they developed a mysterious trust in Gauss’s abilities.
But as time passed, unease began to grow in their hearts.
No matter how capable Gauss seemed, he was, in reality, only a young man in his early twenties, even the youngest internally within the Red Dragon Team.
Compared to ordinary adventurers outside, his peers might still linger around villages fighting against a handful of goblins, slimes, whereas Gauss was now deep in an unknown human forbidden zone alone.
What peril awaited him? Neither the Guild’s upper echelon nor departing Gauss knew.
"Lord Gauss is so powerful; surely he’ll turn dangers into opportunities."
"Maybe he was just delayed by taking a detour."
"Or perhaps he hasn’t found those dragon hatchlings’ nests yet and is gathering intelligence?"
The group exchanged their thoughts, believing that speaking these words could turn speculation into reality.
Upon reaching the Red Dragon Team’s settlement.
Many faces were marked by fatigue and numbness.
"Five more dead."
Luna approached the campfire nearby Aaliyah and her companions, carrying a tray, and spoke softly.
Though assigned to relatively safe areas for guarding, personnel losses within the Red Dragon Team were inevitable.
A stray arrow, a shock wave spreading overhead, or even fatigue causing someone to fall from the wall could take a life.
However, the Red Dragon Team hasn’t gained nothing during this period; the war has solidified the team’s spirit and momentum, and many have made notable progress in their abilities amidst this bloody combat.
Undoubtedly, when the war ends or is temporarily paused, many members will reach breakthroughs.
Moreover, many elite solo adventurers or small teams have been attracted by the reputation to join the Red Dragon Team during these days; these individuals often possess significant skill and cooperation to survive in the perilous battlefield.
It can be said that as long as they endure, post-war, the Red Dragon Team will achieve unprecedented breakthrough, whether in overall strength or reputation.
Transforming from a medium-sized urban adventure group to a large-scale one, overtaking others’ paths within a decade or even decades.
"By the way, Serdur, you need to control yourself."
"That was too dangerous earlier."
Their gaze fell worriedly upon the Half-Snake Man. If anyone in the team besides Gauss, who ventured solo on special commission, caused concern, it would be the Half-Snake Man Serdur.
His strength has grown rapidly over these days.
Of course, this should be a good thing.
But the pace seems a bit too swift.
Aaliyah and others have often seen him jump down the wall alone, engaging in close combat with numerous Demons below.
If not for being shouted and awakened by them, they suspected he would charge towards the Monster Legion’s main force.
It’s not behavior fitting a healing role, his bravery surpasses even the Berserker’s.
"I... I understand."
Serdur paused briefly before closing his eyes, nodding.
He could also feel the increasingly primal force within him.
Gauss’s departure seemed to stir the suppressed monster inside him.
Yet, he was keenly aware of the importance of powerful strength during chaotic times like war.
The inner monster allowed him to explode with strength far exceeding what he should possess.
He sensed its potential was far from limited.
With Gauss temporarily gone, he felt the need to step forward and bear more responsibility.
He didn’t want Gauss to return only to hear unfortunate news.
He wasn’t alone in feeling anxious; Aaliyah and others often exhausted themselves, constantly consuming various potions, attempting to squeeze every ounce of potential from their bodies.
For geniuses, war is also the best trial ground.
